NEW LANGUAGE are bringing back the performance-based music video with "Wake Up", a visceral new cut that demonstrates the band’s bracing melodic sense and passionate playing. Originally conceived by Tyler Demorest and Matt Cohen, they both enlisted Tony Hajjar (At The Drive-In/Sparta) to produce their upcoming debut full-length.

Rowdy, rambunctious, rumbling, percussion pummeling serves as the blunt energetic force behind the slow-burning, emotive fuse of Loose Tooth. There’s a somewhat sentimental stewing as the melodic pop-punk narratives unfold, and then the switch flips; the quartet accelerates into top gear, bringing an aggressive avalanche of sound along the way. The lyrically incisive yet playful electro-folk, bedroom-pop of Scott Leitch, a.k.a. Shelf Life, and the seductively smooth yet consistently surging sounds of Blue Smiley will be joining them. As if there weren’t enough crazy sounds to keep you up all night, Brooklyn Wildlife is back for their annual music/art/burlesque/film/griot riot festival. It’s eight days of music of all genres performed by 150+ performers at ten venues. There’s something for everyone, and everything for anyone wanting to rep Brooklyn as hard as Brooklyn comes. Make space in your playlist for every song ever to come from new group Maurice and the Stiff Sisters, especially for the one we’re premiering today called "Heart Beats Faster."
Heartfelt tones come from lead vocalist Maurice Spencer, which only adds an extra element to the jovial, psych tinged heart pop that Maurice and the Stiff Sisters produce.

As if the last couple weeks haven’t been enough of a clusterfuck in the way of music festivals, tomorrow brings yet another to add to the list of attendance. This time around, it’s a collaboration between three bar venues downtown and Lagunitas Brewing.
PAC NW Fest features 15 bands spread out across Dante’s, Ash Street Saloon and Kelly’s Olympian, all in one Saturday night.
Catch what is sure to be a rowdy final performance from Foxy Lemon‘s drummer Zach Boggis as they headline the bill at Kelly’s Olympian. Supporting them will be Bubble Cats, the Hoons, Keeper Keeper and Internal State. That side room at Kelly’s is sure to reach capacity.
Over at Dante’s, you’ll find Seattle’s Moon Darling, Willow House, Arlo Indigo and Just Lions opening up for King Who, the new moniker for the trippy synth pop group Us Lights.
Dark pop rock lovers Skull Diver will be closing out the night at Ash Street Saloon with their psychedelic visuals and ethereal vocals. Febian Perez’s post-Bike Thief project Eclisse will also take the stage, along with Rader, Young Hunter and Salo Panto.

Beau Wanzer released the first single from his forthcoming LP, Untitled LP II, this week. The album is set to be released via his imprint, BW, on October 31st. This is a collection of archival recordings of mutilated sounds and beats.
Cat Be Damned is the lo-fi recording project of Richmond artist Erik Phillips, whose latest album Daydreams in a Roach Motel was released in May via Joy Void Records. His intimately soft tracks reflect on his introverted and antisocial tendencies, while also examining religion and what it’s like to be queer in the South. Drawing from inspirations such as Elvis Depressedly, Neil Young, and Elliot Smith, Phillips’ sleepy tracks employ the use of hushed vocals and melodic synths to shape his placid sound. – John Honan
Catch the first free show ever at Johnny Brenda’s! Here’s a rundown of what you can expect to see upstairs. Producer extraordinaire Jeff Zeigler slips further into the space-age experimental pool of Valley Exit. With a somewhat fluid cast of characters that includes April Harkanson (Downtown Club, Myrrias), Steve Urgo (Myrrias), Josh Meakim (A Sunny Day In Glasgow, The Fantastic Imagination), the band swiftly shifts among a wide expanse of electronic exploration in an accessible yet discovery-oriented mode. This evening’s show will feature the dynamic pairing of Attia Taylor & Corey Duncan (Oh! Pears), who has recently returned after a stint as a resident on the West Coast), a.k.a. Strange Parts. Their fresh single, “Asleep in the Flowers,” effortlessly combines Taylor’s enchanting vocals with a heavy dose of percussion and synth, developing a deep hypnotic groove that you’ll be in no rush to pull yourself out of, offering a glimpse into their multi- dimensional tones. Emily Robb (Lantern, Louie Louie, Myrrias) rounds out this free night of music with her collection of vinyl for your listening pleasure. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Cruel Youth is perhaps the Marvelettes stuck in a black treacle, electro-acid dream. It is the smokey allure of 60’s R&B wrapped up in dark, hypnotic beats and dripping with the power of a femme fatale. After premiering track "Mr. Watson" a few months back, the all-female trio fronted by Teddy Sinclair (FKA Natalia Kills), is set to drop an EP this month. If the first single is any indication, the EP is sure to be lead by Sinclair’s soulful vocals and biting lyricism, deliciously paired with hazy instrumentals and sampling that makes the group’s pop-soul tracks sound driving and even "avant" at times. Keep a lookout for Cruel Youth’s EP dropping Sept 16th, and in the meantime listen to their single below.-Olivia Sisinni

Baby Shakes have been perfecting their jangly power pop rock and roll since 2004, and in 2015 they self-released their long awaited second full length Starry Eyes. Its spirited pop melodies combined with its gritty and raw punk attitude are enough to appeal young rebels in the market for party time, while carrying on the tradition of celebrated vintage acts such as The Ramones and The New York Dolls. The quartet’s layered harmonies and poppy vocals shape their fun summery vibe with simple lyrics that celebrate the freedom and light heartedness of youth. Baby Shakes just finished playing some shows in China and Italy, and will be performing at Berlin on September 3rd! – John Honan
