Brooklyn-based band, Sanctuary Sound – the project of Cade Sadler – likes to play with expectations – and contrasts. Single One Clear Thought (streaming) opens the band’s EP, Brass Ring, with electronic noises that sound like the start of something rather cerebral. However, what follows is a muted and soulful synth pop track that’s actually very emotional, and complimented by Sadler’s semi-whispered, fuzzy and reverbed voice. Today marks the release of the latest album from The Chairman Dances, titled Time Without Measure, which is available via Black Rd Records. Forging a cleansing yet socially conscious framework, this collection focuses on both a societal and a personal level. It’s folk that gather additional sonic complexity with instrumental additions. Those provocatively thoughtful glimpses serve as commentary while also evoking deeper contemplation. The arrival of the band’s new LP will be celebrated this evening at Boot & Saddle. Rolling a combination of folk, country, and bluegrass with vocal harmonies, fingerpicking and a steady-striding sense of storytelling, the trio of The Chip Breakers dish out their recipe for Americana, while the Reading rockers Jonathan Monument harness energy in measured, melodic flashes. Deeply spiritual and tortured at once, NYC’s electronic one man band project Varick is back with a new track that combines goth influences with EDM, synth pop and industrial. A song about "surrendering your ego in order to find a deeper meaning within yourself." Surrender (streaming below) well exemplifies Varick’s interpretation of music and creativity as mediums towards the search for a deeper life balance, where catharses – here in the form of occasional explosions of distorted guitars – can be as enlightening as the contemplation expressed in the thoughtful lyrics. The single will be part of Varick debut full length album, entitled Veda I, to be released on September 9th.
With an exuberant, attitude-drenched energy, the punk quartet of Posers hits the ground running. Their second EP, aptly titled Posers, Too, is a catchy combination of speed and snarl. Pissed off and punchy with escalating instrumentation, it’s tenaciously accessible, and will be released on vinyl at a future date via Enthrall Records, but you can stream and purchase the download below. Ray & Remora were born two decades apart. As any Gen X born, or millenial who feels two old to identify with the term (raises hand!), can attest, Dan Crane (Ray) sees the early nineties as an essential part of his musical upbringing. Amanda Walker (Remora), on the other hand, is a good two decades younger than him. Nevertheless, they both brought their minds together to write a full album featuring a who’s who of nineties indie rock royalty.
After accomplishing this with very good success, the duo are now close to releasing their first full-length of recorded material, Startle It Up. And yes, those nineties influences do carry into their originals as well. One of their most recent singles, "The Happening", is a more gleaming fuzz rocker that offsets their more melodic inclinations with a sleeker pop accesibility.

After two years, Brooklyn-based artist FRAME is back with a new track entitled “Love Wasted”, which serves as a sampling of her upcoming full length debut. In the single, Caitlin Frame, the creative force behind the project, writes about her now finished eight year open-marriage, and the complex emotions and regrets attached to this unconventional experience (that many fantasize about!). The track plays with contrasts as Frame confidently sings about her vulnerability and emotional confusion over a decidedly pop production. As of now, there is no fixed date for her upcoming release, but you can see FRAME live tonight (8.25) at Baby’s All Right with Cayetena and Weaves! – John Honan
The new self-titled tape from Hit School is being released tomorrow via Already Dead Tapes. The noise rock trio, of Ben Fairbank, Ban Bruttig, and Adam Caldwell, formed in early 2015.
Polls are like guitar solos, some people love them while others despise them – and we are cool with that.
Here at The Deli we like polls because – at least the way we do them – they allow us to accomplish many positive things at once:
1. The Deli’s polls are a great way to give free exposure to local emerging artists we like, directly on our homepage.
2. The polls may prompt these same artists to promote our site amongst their fans – and of course we like that.
3. They also basically force us to constantly search for great up and coming local artists – 8 every 2 weeks only in NYC!!!
4. The artists and bands who win our polls not only get their picture on top of our city scene homepage for two weeks (which is the most clicked part of our site), but also (when we have local sponsors) win some prizes, including free recording and mastering time – now that doesn’t hurt them for sure…
5. Most readers perceive being nominated for a poll and – even more so – winning it, as a strong sign of quality – and giving that kind of message associated to an emerging artists is exactly what we are here for.
So if you happen to despise polls, we just gave you 5 good reasons to change your mind…

Abi Reimold is currently working on the follow-up to this year’s critically-acclaimed release Wriggling. However, we so have a sampling of a new song for you today called "Stars," which was recorded live by Josh Nesmith and Brian Firestone at DIY space The Treehouse in Harrisburg, PA while on tour with Emily Yacina. In an email to Stereogum, Reimold shares, "I have a lot of full band arrangements on the record, but I wrote many of the songs with a loop pedal. Although I’m excited about how the recordings are turning out, I think that the truest and most honest form of these songs is just me playing them by myself with my looper.”
A few months back, The Original Crooks and Nannies announced that they were disbanding. Now, Sam Huntington has released the debut album from his new, technically solo venture Very Bad Vibes, though former bandmate Madeline Rafter did contribute vocals on two of the tracks ("Flu Season" and "Please"). Toothpaste has a sly, electro-R&B aesthetic, balancing magnetic songwriting with a knack to establish well-rounded, percussion-forward instrumentation. Personally navigating through an introspective lyrical approach, the collection of songs springs forth, while capable of hitting the core with a bare sense of exposure.
