Everyone is Dirty Releases New Album – Banana Split

Posted on:

Everyone Is Dirty will be releasing a new piece of music entitled, Banana Split.

Banana Split is a schizophrenic cassette single featuring two brand new tracks of art/rock insanity—the title track un-winds like a fever dream with its warped sound waves and amphetamine crunch, re-calling the Slits as much as David Bowie or Talking Heads; meanwhile on the flip side, “Wax Mannequin Mode” wafts in like a ghostly breeze, a rare glimpse of the softer side of Everyone Is Dirty, evoking The Meat Puppets and Elliott Smith.

Everyone Is Dirty first started shocking audiences with the raw power of their music in 2013, quickly striking a nerve with their explosive sound and electrifying live show. They developed a powerful and singular chemistry virtually overnight—the combination of frontwoman Sivan Lioncub’s electric-violin sorcery and sometimes ethereal, sometimes ferocious vocals; Chris Daddio’s pawn shop guitar crunch; the driving post-punk bass lines of Tyler English; and Tony Sales’ expressive and explosive drumming coalesced in-to a force of nature.

Deli Premiere: Tennessee Scum fights the power with “War Zone”

Posted on:

With Tennessee Scum, a band isn’t just a band or a hobby. It certainly isn’t meant to be a cynical money machine, and I’m sure they’d have a few choice words for anyone with those aspirations. It’s about a message and a lifestyle, and every day in that life is a battle. At least that’s the message on "War Zone," the latest single off the soon-to-be-released What A Drag. "War Zone" is classic Scum, a quick burner with plenty of weight regardless, but the new album is definitely an evolution in a more refined direction. Make no mistake, there’s no less fury to be found. The sound is just more focused; it’s sharper around the edges and all the more deadly for it.

Keep an eye on the band’s Facebook page for new track postings daily and don’t miss them at Foobar for the album release show on July 30 with Ebony Eyes, Roman Polanki’s Baby, and Hans Condor. -Austin Phy

Scully bring their “California sunshine, Brooklyn grit” to Union Pool on 7.28

Posted on:

Scully formed after the breakup of California-based garage rock group The Splinters, when three of its core members reunited in Brooklyn. Their perfectly self-described brand of “California sunshine, Brooklyn grime” features easy going pop melodies blended with heavy psych influences, along with the scuzzy and lo-fi nature of garage rock. Last year the band released a split with La Luz that featured their track “Don’t Want That”. Scully’s latest single “Wave” puts the band’s poppy psych sound on display with shimmering guitar tones and hazy vocals. “Wave” is the first single off the four-pieces upcoming EP No Sense, which will be released on August 19th through Fire Talk. Scully will be playing Union Pool on July 28th in support of fellow psych-garage rockers Honey. – John Honan

Teen Body unveils video for “Bored Window” + plays Shea Stadium on 07.27

Posted on:

Teen Body‘s debut LP Get Home Safe flows between wispy, delicate sections and more agitated moments filled with with tension. The four-piece recently released a music video for single “Bored Window” that also plays along this dichotomy, opening with lighthearted and playful scenes of band comradery, at least until they start killing each other – in all likelihood because of creative disagreements and ego conflicts related to the band! The group’s placid dream pop acts as a surreal commentary to the final, bloody scenes, in a way remoiniscent of Spike Lee’s use of loungy jazz over violent sequences. Teen Body will be playing live July 27th at Shea Stadium. – John Honan

New Videos: “Moody” & “Pup” (Live – Out Of Town Films) – Queen of Jeans

Posted on:

Dream-pop outfit Queen of Jeans recently stopped by Out Of Town Films headquarters at Berks Warehouse in Philly to record a live session. Performing two songs from the group’s self-titled debut EP, the sultry, swagger of "Moody" effortlessly charms, while "Pup" languidly caressess and comforts, taking you away from all your worries in the world. Marissa Lesnick’s lead vocals and the band’s backing harmonies sound spectacular. You can catch Queen of Jeans live, and fall under their spell on Thursday, August 18 with Grubby Little Hands as part of the Spruce Street Harbor Park Waterfront Sessions. (Photo by Bob Sweeney)

Family Volleyball Opening Special All-ages Show for Wild Child at Boot & Saddle July 24

Posted on:

Tonight is a special all-ages show at Boot & Saddle, the second night of two for impassioned pop group Wild Child. Last night was for the 21+ folks, so this evening is for all the youngsters. It’s an especially good thing for opener Family Volleyball, who most likely would not be allowed in the venue otherwise, or maybe I’m just getting old. Either way, try to make it in time for their dreamy, eclectic set. While the group might stay in the realm of indie rock most of the time, they jump around with their sound, recalling Real Estate, Pinback, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Pomegranates and Yo La Tengo at different times across their limited amount of releases. The band obviously has an ear for a catchy melody, and can explore/express those ideas in a number of inventive ways. Family Volley doesn’t seem to take themselves too seriously, which is to their benefit, as they are creating keen-eyed and intricate songs that have a youthful exuberance and mature, well-crafted structures that are both surprising and familiar. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8:30pm, $20, All Ages – Adam G.

PDX Pop Now Day 2 – What to Expect

Posted on:

Day 2 of PDX Pop Now actually starts at noon, with Friends of Noise and Music in the Schools act The Scribes. Mr. Bones will be repping an early but good spot for Good Cheer Records, and the Tamed West round out a nice early afternoon block of performances before the afternoon starts kicking in.

Andrew Endres Collective is bringing some jazzy vibes to the fest and Wave Action is filling in for Little Star just before 3:30.

Old Grape God and Speaker Minds are the fest’s hip hop flavor for the day leading into punk af Tiny Knives and Love Cop, who have got their self described "hood goth" on lock.

Experimental artist Antecessor will ring the night in with a bit of strangeness, followed by a block of r&b feels from Lola Buzzkill and Fur Coats. Older school Portlanders Wooden Indian Burial Ground are closing out the night on a garagey note.

With just today and tomorrow left, PDX Pop has been off to a great start!
