Beca plays Sofar Sounds on 7/28

Posted on:

Electro pop artist Beca’s mix of dance and synth pop sounds brings back the term throwback in the best possible way. Her kinetic songs demand your immediate response, with dark, Euro disco-tinged rhythms that could be described as if Cold Cave enlisted Kylie Monigue to collaborate on their latest project. Which exhibits the potency of her focus: Beca surely wants you to join the dancefloor, but she’d appreciate it if you’d pay attention to her propulsive tempos, too.

Beca’s debut full-length album Ecliptic is out now via  All Scene Eye. You can catch her live at the next Sofar Sounds on June 28th. – Juan Rodríguez

The shoegaze-y grunge crew has been on the road in support of Superheaven’s final tour. (I’m really looking forward to their upcoming release via Jade Tree.) Lexi Campion first emerged on the Philly music scene as part of math-y indie-rock outfit Edelweiss. She has since moved on to her own project, writing and releasing songs under the moniker Grayling. Campion shared her debut EP Everything That Burns, via NDE Records, earlier this year, grabbing our attention with its emotively powerful vocals and compositions, which surely helped to lead her to victory in our Featured Artist(s) Poll. Remote Places is latest solo project from Justin Geller (ex-Pink Skull). Below is the new music video fro his single "It All Comes Back to You," which is off his debut EP Nights and Weekends (Box Theory Records). It’s a re-imagined version of Portret Niewierny, an avant-garde short film by Polish animator Ewa Bibańska. The footage was edited by Branko Jakominich (of Modern Mothers) to tell the timeless tale of "falling in love, falling out of love, falling back in love, and falling out of love again." Deli Portland gems to dominate the Doug Fir for record release

Posted on:

The Doug Fir will be host to a lineup comprised of some the Deli’s Portland’s most prized artists tomorrow. The Cabin Project are having their record release show for the new Unfolded, joined by Deli Portland Artist of the Year for 2015 Coco Columbia and the instrumentally dynamic and colorful Human Ottoman.

The orchestral pop of The Cabin Project boasts grand choruses and harmonies paired with scopic string sections, manifesting a desirably mellow affect that landed them the runner up slot in the Deli’s Year End polls. Katie Sawicki, the Brooklynite that founded The Cabin Project, developed her vision over the last near decade by injecting an intimacy of poetically heartfelt lyrics paired with a musical output that’s just as affectionate. Now joined by Zanny Geffel and Rebekah Hanson, The Cabin Project’s full sound translates into an ornate projection on all members’ innermost emotions.

Unfolded is the third release from The Cabin Project and promises to be the most sentimental yet. "[Unfolded is] an album about despair, loss, hope, freedom, heartache, justice and love.  We hope that our listeners will connect with the words and feelings of this record and believe that it is catharsis for all who have felt these universal feelings within their own journeys through life," the band states on album’s intent.

Coco Columbia’s angelic jazz pop fills an empty pocket in Portland’s rock dominated music scene, while Human Ottoman’s revived take on the typical instrumental makeup of a band (using only a cello, vibraphone and drums) is sonically raucous.

An album stream for The Cabin Project’s Unfolded will be available on the Deli Portland site before the release show tomorrow, so be sure to familiarize yourself before you see it live at this Deli endorsed event.

San Fermin’s Charlene Kaye announces “Honey” EP under the name Kaye + plays album release show at Mercury Lounge on 8/18

Posted on:

Many people may be familiar with Charlene Kaye without knowing it – she’s the energetic frontwoman of orchestral NYC band San Fermin.  However, she is also an accomplished songwriter who has been releasing solo records since 2012.  After the successful experience with San Fermin, the soulful singer has been refocusing on her own material and is about to release a new EP entitled “Honey,” under the new, simpler moniker Kaye. A development of the electro pop leanings of Charlene Kaye’s earlier work, Kaye’s full vocal and musical range is on display in the title track “Honey,” an empowering indie pop anthem, complete with a saturated sonic production featuring several edgy and distorted elements, bouncing between pop and rock. The “Honey” EP will be released on August 19th, and you can catch Kaye live at her EP Release show at Mercury Lounge on August 18th.

and more!

The residency occurs Every Wednesday in July along with two Saturday events on July 9th and July 23rd!
http://www.milksf.com/ to get tickets $5 in advance, $10 at the door

¨I want to build a community of like-minded artists in the Bay Area. We’ll be featuring bands, artist, projections, dancers, djs and public speakers talking about the real issues in SF and what we can do about them. The Residency is starting to become a staple and cult classic in our thriving Bay Area music scene. I loved how hard it was to pick which acts to have on the lineups. There are so many talented bands in the Bay that I actually had to add two dates to accommodate the amount of bands. I could easily could have had a year long DDS Residency.

My expectations for this years residency is to inspire more people to become apart of the Bay Area music scene. I would like to attend more local shows after this month and have the residency artists collaborate and network long after this residency.¨ -Kyle DeMartini of Down Dirty Shake

Logan Lynn releases single for Orlando victims

Posted on:

The recent tragedy that happened at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub have obviously stunned the nation but more specifically, the LGBTQI community as the center of the attack. While many of us remain mournful and full of sorrow, some took to their respective creative outlets to express their feelings. Local Logan Lynn falls into that latter category.

He released his track for "Go There When You Want To Be Loved" just two days after the June 12th massacre, with a heartfelt statement on the track’s Bandcamp page.

"I feel sick and afraid. I want to cancel all of my upcoming public appearances and find a closet to go back inside of. But I cannot. And I will not. I will not be made quiet by fear. I will not let American apathy dictate my path. And I will never stop hoping that change will come," Logan wrote.

"I wrote this song “Go There When You Want To Be Loved” about my own feeling that there is no safe place for me in the world at times as a gay man, as a person living with persistent mental health struggles, and as a public person known for both. These lyrics feel like the only words I can find for how I am feeling, so I am releasing it now as a fundraiser for my queer family in Orlando."

Logan’s sentiments aren’t outcast, as many relate and are looking for this opportunity as a much needed chance to band together and support one another. With vigils happening across the world and very inclusive, grandiose ones happening on Portland’s front, that support is extensive.

All proceeds from Logans track are going towards the recovery of the LGBTQI community in Orlando. We’re coming out of Pride Week, but don’t let that stop the feeling. Listen to it, share it, do what you can. The community needs it.
