New Videos: “Body Double” (Live) & “Integration Loop” (Live) – Lushlife + CSLSX

Posted on:

Lushlife and CSLSX brought a pair of songs from The Deli Philly’s March Record of the Month, Ritualize (Western Vinyl), to the live stage at The Special Without Brett Davis. Intertwining the sleek, gliding, futuristic instrumentation with Lush laying down some percussion, the group serves up the smooth fire of “Body Double” and the meditative haze of “Integration Loop”. Lushlife will be back in town on Sunday, May 22 at Johnny Brenda’s with Islands. Grab your tix soon, or you’ll be left out!

Portland

Portland and Seattle team up for a double album release celebration

Posted on:

Seattle’s the Snakebites are back…and when I say back, I mean with their first album in a decade! That’s due for a pretty damn huge celebration, and that’s exactly what’s going to happen. The Snakebites are having two separate release shows for Blue Curse #2 – one at the LoFi Gallery in Seattle on the 22nd and one in Portland at the Kenton Club on the 23rd. What’s extra chill about this, is that two Portland bands will be helping the Snakebites (and other Seattle band Prom Queen) with their release parties. Former Deli Portland Artist of the Month nominees and lovely bunnies Laura Palmer’s Death Parade will be joined by dark poppers the Slutty Hearts as the part of the Portland support team for both shows.

Come out and join the party! Tickets for the Kenton Club show are $5 and the show starts at 9pm.

New Track: “Devotion” – Night Panther & New EP Announcement

Posted on:

Electro-pop outfit Night Panther officially announced its breakup in November 2014, but as most of us should know by now with the recent return of LCD Soundsystem and Guns N’ Roses, the end isn’t always the end when it comes to a band’s life. We received an email this morning that the group’s first single in almost two years, "Devotion," is now available for streaming and download. There is also an EP scheduled for release on May 1, entitled P I N K & B L A C K. Niiiiice!

Retail Space premieres ‘Getting Older’ + plays Sunnyvale on 04.27

Posted on:

Some very serious and kewl people don’t relate to quirk in music. However, The Deli NYC is a big supporter of it, maybe because in eccentricity we see freedom. Made up of Brooklyn-based duo Isabelle Burnet and Jacob Rosse, Retail Space say they play "folk influenced-synth pop that’s heavy in harmonies and warbled guitar tones," but that doesn’t convey the unusual melodies of their debut single ‘Getting Older,’ which we are premiering below. The word that conveys that is ‘quirky,’ and that’s what makes this track stand out from the pack. The duo will be performing live at Sunnyvale on April 27th with The Deli NYC’s August 2015 Record of the Month Pupppy (with three ‘p’s).

Brooklyn’s Arthur Moon plays debut show at National Sawdust on Saturday (4/23)

Posted on:

Just last month, Brooklyn avant-pop sextet Arthur Moon released its sonorously boisterous debut EP, ‘Our Head.’ Starting with the reverb-backed call to awareness “Room” and featuring “Bold Affair” (streaming below), a drum-nicked, Deradoorian-esque track that is as romantically audacious as its title, the four-track effort doesn’t just marvel in its ability to meld disparate genres (rock, minimalism, art-pop, amongst them) but also in the way it imbues vulnerability with calmness; one may just find solace in these beatific songs. Arthur Moon will have its debut show at National Sawdust in Williamsburg on Saturday (4/23). – Zach Weg

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best mellow songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

New Video: “Arranged” (Live – BrooklynVegan Acoustic Sessions) – Abi Reimold

Posted on:

Below is a live solo performance by Abi Reimold of "Arranged," which is the opening track from her latest album Wriggling (Sad Cactus). It was recorded in Philadelphia inside a defunct train tunnel with a skylight for BrooklynVegan Acoustic Sessions. You can catch Riemold this evening at The Leonard Pearlstein Gallery for Philly Radness, where you’ll also experience an "interactive pop-up skatepark," as well as the sounds of Queen of Jeans and Hemming. Linear Downfall hits the road; Win two tickets for their Nashville show!

Posted on:

If there’s a soundtrack to losing your mind and loving it, Linear Downfall is the composer, the band, and the medium itself. All the symptoms are there on 2015’s Sufferland: the delicate, lucid orchestral movements, feeding directly into pieces that sound like those movements were run through a random number generator and then stomped into the concrete. Needless to say, their live show is also completely nuts. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that not only is Linear Downfall taking their freak-psych show on the road, but they’re kicking the whole thing off with a Nashville stop on May 6 featuring Pleasures, Yumi and the System, and Carter Routh. Oh, and did we mention that a lucky fan and their plus-one will get to check that show out for free?

Enterprising Nashvillians who want TWO free tickets to the May 6 show at the High Watt oughta follow us on Twitter and then tweet with the hashtag #DeliGiveaway. It’s that easy! The contest closes in one week, on April 26 at noon CST, which also happens to be when we’ll notify our randomly-chosen winner. And while it’s true that there’s only going to be one winner, the fact that Linear Downfall is on tour should put a big ol’ smile on everybody’s face. Have a look at the full tour schedule below and start planning!

TEEN, Chaos Chaos, Von Sell and Gold Child play Audiofemme Anniversay bash tonight (04.19)

Posted on:

A NYC based music blog that fosters music journalism by female music writers, Audiofemme tonight is hosting an anniversary bash at Greenpoint’s Good Room with lots of talented, mostly female fronted artists. We blogged about psych pop quartet TEEN and indie pop sister duo Chaos Chaos more than once in this blog – check out those links to refresh your ears. Gold Child (pictured) will also perform on the bill; the trio offers tasteful and relaxed Americana with dreamy overtones and is led by the confident alto of Emily Fehler. On the bill also Von Sell, the solo project of David Von Sell, who released two Hypem-blessed singles that successfully blend experimental textures and soul-pop melodies with jazzy tinges. Check out his latest single ‘I Insist’ streaming below, and last year’s debut ‘Ivan,’ here – we added the latter to The Deli’s playlist of Best electronic songs by emerging NYC artists. On the bill also indie rock quartet Marigolds, who evoke Robyn Hitchcock’s legendary early band, the Soft Boys.

We added this Gold Child song to The Deli’s playlist of Best rootsy songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!
