Pupppy brings slackitude to Shea Stadium tomorrow (03.30)

Posted on:

Selected as our record of the month last summer, Puppy‘s "Shit in the Apple Pie" is a slacker rock gem that references the laziest of musical genres (no wonder we caught them playing pinball!) without being subdued by it. The quartet will be performing at Shea Stadium tomorrow with Caged Animals and Romp, a band we are going to write about next. Check out their song ‘Rodeo Clowns’ below.

New Track: “End” – Psychic Teens

Posted on:

Post-punk trio Psychic Teens is scheduled to release its new album, NERVE, on May 13 via SRA Records. The band recently shared the album’s closer, aptly titled “End”. The track jars with its roaring guitar and percussive thrust as Larry Ragone’s centered, baritone vocals bellow, building up to the demolition-aimed, combative instrumental chaos that comes at the conclusion. Psychic Teens will celebrate their third full-length album with a record release show at Johnny Brenda’s on May 28 that also includes Vivatape and Mt. Billions.

KissMeKate releases new track “Clementine”

Posted on:

“Clementine”, the latest track by singler/songwriter KISSMEKATE, is a slow-burning synth pop ballad that showcases her good ear for subtle, yet dramatic effectiveness. What begins as an a capella lullaby ultimately builds into a delicate crescendo, firmly balancing that sweet spot between clarity and nuance.

"Clementine" is the lead track from her debut album, which is slated for release in April 2016.

Glassio unveils video for single “Try Much Harder” + plays Mercury on April 9th

Posted on:

Brooklyn sci-pop duo Glassio has just unveiled a new video for their single "Try Much Harder," which we highlighted about a month ago on this very blog. With an appropriately muted color palette perfectly matching the band’s soft sounds, the video illustrates a sci-fi trip started in the NYC subway, and ended on a tiny boat in some unspecified planet. You can catch the band live on Saturday April 9th at The Mercury Lounge at 9pm.

TOADHOUSE – OUT OF HIBERNATION!

Posted on:

Funky Jam Trio Toadhouse are back in action! These 3 talented musicians from Hamilton have been on a hiatus for about a year….one of them decided to have a kid can you believe that? Good news is they are back and ready to jam their hearts out for you. Their album "Bufo" was released in September of 2014 and all you really have to do is look at the track lengths to know exactly what they’re all about. I saw them at the Corktown a few years ago and I don’t think they took a break during the whole set I saw. Smooth transitions from part to part as well as song to song. They can improvise if needed and just keep going. All of em sing too. So Hamilton is in line for a wicked night of progressive jam tunes on Friday at the Casbah with Toadhouse, Must Stash Hat and the Human Race. – Kris Gies

JIM DAN DEE – FUELIN’ UP AT THE HIDEOUT!

Posted on:

Bourbon Fueled Funkabilly Grunge Blues….if that doesn’t sound appetizing to you then I’m not sure we can be friends. That’s how describe Jim Dan Dee. They’re a 4 piece outfit that plays some greasy blues rock jams complete with a heavy dosage of slide guitar and a dash of saxophone to keep it hot. They released an EP last year called "5 Stiff Shots"…which absolutely would go down well while jamming their tunes. The EP opens with "Fucked Up" which also makes sense given the album title. That track is loaded with juicy slide guitar riffage and lyrics you’ll be singing along with by the end of the track. I recommend these guys if you feel like tying one on this Friday April 1st. Jim Dan Dee rocks the Hideout! – Kris Gies

We Are Not For Them – new album “Captures, Vol.1” 3/25

Posted on:

There was Eric B. and Rakim, BlackStar, Cannibal Ox and now We Are Not For Them; classic albums are born when certain rappers get paired with the right producers. Warren Britt is a rapper’s rapper; he’s in the front row of every show, every open mic, every cypher. Magnanimous doesn’t begin to describe his love for the culture and his MC brethren. A.M. Breakups is a prolific mega producer in the vein of El-P and Blockhead who runs the Reservoir Sound Womb, a standout Brooklyn-based label. Tha Gent is a culture clash DJ whose events bring together and stir up the best Hip Hop has to offer. Like the inimitable DELTRON, this mighty triumvirate offers the most vehement paradox: and album for you entitled We Are Not For Them. It’s a rally cry for the disenfranchised and a voice you must hear. Celebrate the release of this epic collaboration at Pandemic Gallery, Thursday April 7th at 7pm.

New Music Video: “Coma’d” – Three Man Cannon

Posted on:

Three Man Cannon recently released a new music video for “Coma’d,” a track that was featured on their latest EP, Will I Know You Then, released on Lame-O Records. The video blossoms as the band journeys into the woods, experiencing a ritualistic enlightenment, which is culminated with a cleansing in the natural waters. While the imagery provides a pleasant charming aesthetic, the brief, morphing facial contortions of the leader/high priest are haunting.
