Video Premiere: Masses “Going Under”

Posted on:

We are proud to premiere the Remii Huang directed video for the debut single, "Going Under", from Masses. Forming last year, Masses are Mike Jansen on vocals, guitarists Markham Jenkins and Edgar Quintanilla, Jonathan Walker on bass, and drummer Jon Lewchenko. Their debut single shows a tremendous amount of promise and polish that should have Masses primed for big things.

On the video, lead singer Mike Jansen had this to say; "I think Remii Huang did an amazing job with her vision capturing how opposites can coexist. There’s violence and beauty in oil and water. Her ability to take our concept and really bring it to life made the entire process incredibly moving. The whole cast was amazing to work with. It’s not often that I find myself surrounded by such talented visual artists."

The noise-rattling punk tandem of Joey Doubek and Ashley Arnwine, otherwise known as PINKWASH, has just shared “Longer Now,” the first single off their debut LP. The much-anticipated Collective Sigh is scheduled for release on May 13 via Don Giovanni Records. “Longer Now” utilizes Doubek’s emotively-charged howling vocals, combing forces with the heavy riff/percussion scenario, keeping you on alert while embracing a strong, smashing wave.

Deli reader favorites Damned Rivers and Terrible settle the score over a champagne toast

Posted on:

The political season is on, and it can get nasty. Even if you’re able to ignore the attack ads and mud-covered debate spectacles, we’ve all probably sneered a vicious sneer or two at a neighbor’s disagreeable lawn sign or bumper sticker.

But who said a tight voting contest has to tear households apart? While the stakes may be a little lower than the fate of a nation, it still warms our rotten hearts to see Deli Readers’ Poll competitors Damned Rivers sharing a bottle of bubbly and a song with their second-place co-occupants Terrible. In our analysis of the poll results and the dead tie between the two bands, you may remember that we suggested "maybe Damned Rivers could make an appearance on that rad-ass live series Terrible has been producing," and we’re delighted to see that they delivered. Check out the video of that session below and, since they’re such a bunch of upstanding guys and a personal favorite of ours, we’ve also embedded the inuagural episode featuring Terrible. –Austin Phy

Noise rockers Coaches play Palisades on 3.15

Posted on:

They say that when you meet someone for the first time you decide if you like them in the first few seconds of interaction. That can often be applied to music, and Coaches is one of those bands that hooked us in no time – (aural) love at first sight? With high strung guitars, a subtle use of dissonance, and razor sharp melodies, this band knows how to utilize sonic space, mixing high octane energy sections and then easing into lulling breaks, allowing the tension to build and then blowing it all up with intense guitar riffs. Heck, they remind us a little of the Pixies, but different (this should be taken as a huge compliment). For a show that will get you moving from the get go stop by Palisades on March 15 and get a glimpse of these guys in action. – Adriana S Ballester

OhBree Berning Down the House at Lavender Town March 11

Posted on:
This evening at Lavender Town, a smattering of Philly acts, who have all been feeling the Bern, are converging for a night of music, with all funds going to the Bernie Sanders campaign. Tonight is highlighted by OhBree, who will also be celebrating the release of their new EP Feed Me Poison (which you can now stream HERE). The quirk-pop orchestrations that Oh Bree have been not-so-quietly-crafting come to a zany, precise, and satisfying head on their latest album. Similar to Philly’s Man Man, the eccentric and lighthearted music is often a sugar coating for the more sinister stories below. The band plays around with what sounds like every noise-making object that they can find in the studio, but the innovative songwriting by Andrew Scott grounds every tune, allowing their playfulness to be highlighted without distracting too much from the music. Also playing tonight are Mumblr, who just had a fundraiser of their own for a new van last week at Lavender Town. I haven’t heard anything about a sweet new ride yet so don’t be shy about passing some cash their way as well. The bill is filled out by Howlish, Fidel SUN, Dead and Birthday Ponies. There is also Day 2 happening on Saturday at Girard Hall. Show your support, and get some serious Bern for your buck! Lavender Town, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 6pm, $10, All Ages (Photo by Emily Dubin) – Adam G.

New Track: “I Can’t Live Without Your Love” (Skylar Spence’s Planning a Remix Like It’s Acid) – A Sunny Day in Glasgow

Posted on:

Skylar Spence (formerly known as Saint Pepsi) has remixed A Sunny Day in Glasgow’s “I Can’t Live Without Your Love”. Originally released as part of the double EP Planning Weed Like It’s Acid / Life is Loss, Spence shifts the song from a churning textured daydream, playing with vocal distance, while adding a funky ticking pulse. It’ll thrust you onto the dance with its icy warmth that snaps into the groove.

Hang with the Homies

Posted on:

Everyone needs Homies. For the sake of friendship of course and, for the sake of this post, good music. It’s likely you’ve heard of both Ghost Mom and the Shivas. If not, shed some light onto that rock you’ve been living under, because there’s somewhat of a new iteration to fall for. Homies has been in the making for a minute – basically since the somewhat indistinct hiatus of Ghost Mom – but after a couple band bumps in the road have found themselves fully formed and ready to let their music befriend us all.

Consisting of Ralf and Omar from Ghost Mom and Jared from the Shivas, the trio generates an equal parts fuzzy, bluesy and rocking sound cushioned with a chill vocal delivery…in Spanish! Homies is working on a grip of new stuff, from an EP to tours in Europe and Mexico, but have some Portland dates slated to happen soon. For now, enjoy the language of love, served to you on a platter of keen tunes.

Wylder releases new music video for latest single, Swells

Posted on:

You’ve heard a lot about them from me, but Wylder is just too good to not write about. That said, here’s a little treat to get you through the week: their new music video for Swells. A lighthearted, hopeful track, the music video is equally playful and invokes classic tropes of awkward male friendship and mismatched romantic pairings. Give it a watch because Friday’s almost here and this dash of good vibes is just what the doctor ordered. -Jonathan Goodwin
