Over the recent years, electronic infusions have spread through every genre of music, but have found its most compatible companion in pop. Enter New York native Julietta, who with her electro-soul-pop concoctions, takes us on a dreamy escape. Her initial training in musical theater set the foundation for the precise control of her expansive vocal range, which coupled with the airy synths and deep beats (programmed by a team of producers), create a powerfully ethereal sound that flirts with trip hop and the intensely mysterious atmospheres of Lana Del Rey. Catch Julietta sing about love, loss, and everything in between at Baby’s All Right on March 19, when she’ll open for Vallis Alps. – Adriana S. Ballester
Get your Shamrock Shimmy on
It’s that time of year again…St. Patrick’s Day. A day where we wear green to avoid getting pinched, get terribly wasted on dyed green boozy beverages, and pretend like we’re celebrating Irish culture when in reality we’re just looking for another excuse to day drink. No matter your reasons for indulging in whatever festivities you choose, one good time to consider would be the Shamrock Shimmy happening at the Goodfoot that night. Both Tribe Mars and POPgoji are set to play. Both of their approaches to a culturally varied neo-soul, hip hop and jazz are sure to make you want to dance about. Just be careful not to spill green beer on anyway as you girate.
Tickets run $7 and doors are at 9pm. Bring your luck and cheer, and join in on the fun!

Curtis Cooper Record Release Show at JB’s March 15
Curtis Cooper’s full-length debut Laughing In Line could be simply considered folk-oriented singer/songwriter material. However, that label might carry a stigma that fails to take into account the diversity of sounds these songs represent. Cooper steers enthusiastic, soulful-driven narratives that clearly carry personal ramifications, but venture beyond that locality, booming forward in a determined folk-rock framework. It momentously marches, luring with a communal evocation. Abi Reimold (joined by a full band) melds calming catharsis with an agitated aggression that grabs the reins, taking control of emotive energy in explosive rockin’ resolutions. Emmett Drueding sings songs steeped in the searching atmosphere of rural Americana, while the ghostly stir of Julia Rainer may send a shiver up your spine. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita
Syvia Releases New EP And Plays Rockwood Music Hall on 4.2
From the opening double-stick flam pattern drum figure, heroic guitar notes and vintage sine wave synth pads, Brooklyn’s Syvia lay claim to a classic alterna-pop sound on “Anxious Animal,” the lead track off their newly released 5 song EP “Silent Violence.” A repeated vocal hook “you will never be enough, you will not amount to much,” suggests singer Ruth Mirky may be speaking of more internal doubts than anything outwardly accusatory. Though some have stated Yeah Yeah Yeahs as a stylistic equivalent (and overall vocal tone and recording techniques do bear this out) the song structure leans closer to early 1980’s “new wave” monster hit “I Melt With You” by one-hit-wonders Modern English. However the pacing of this track is more deliberate and laden with harsher guitar layers pointing towards early aughts Swedish indie rock band The Sounds, pioneer new wave acts Blondie and Missing Persons as sonic counterparts. In addition to the EP release, the band recently played dates in Norway, Sweden and Finland as part of The Brooklyn Sound Tour, and play next at Rockwood Music Hall on April 2. – Dave Cromwell

Queer attack from Brooklyn: PWR BTTM tours with Ra Ra Riot + plays SXSW
Eschewing mediocrity for a full-on queer punk motif, PWR BTTM is a punk duo sodomizing the status quo. Energetic and positive, the message of their music is uplifting, which pairs well with the group’s DIY showmanship that grips its live showcases. Ben Hopkins and Liv Bruce plan on shocking at SXSW 2106; while their dynamic may be a bit off the beaten path, they don’t seem to care about what other people think, and there is nothing more punk rock than that. After the Austin festival, the band will embark on a tour in support of Ra Ra Riot. Check out their break out single "1994." – Lee Ackerley
HELLO HARVARD – GROOVIN’ AT THE SHOE ON FRIDAY!
Hello Harvard is a group of nice pop rockers from Burlington. They’re hard at work on their debut EP "Silly Things" which we’re expecting to be released in the next few months. If you want to get a taste of what these guys are all about then have a listen to their song "Trappers". In this tune they challenge you by saying "I dare you to dance with me" but by the time you hear that…you’ll already be dancing! This tune has some serious foot tapping potential. It has the feels of today’s indie rock but with some oldies flare mixed in. It’ll make you wanna groove though. So if you’re feelin’ dancy this weekend you can catch Hello Harvard on Friday Night at the Horseshoe Tavern! – Kris Gies
PET SUN – DEBUT LP!
Pet Sun has finally released their first full length record and it’s about time! If you’ve had the chance to see this garage group from Hamilton live then you’re probably just as excited as I am. They’re "Feel Like I’m Going Away" EP was a bad ass intro to the band but this record takes them to new sonic levels. New track "The Dawn" kicks off the record with a swift punch to the face before sliding into previously released single "Never Quit". I literally can’t handle one of the tunes though…in a good way…you ever been on a bus or in public and you see someone enjoying the music on their headphones way too much? That’s me listening to "It’s So Sweet". However if I needed to choose a track from the album to be my wrestling entrance music it would have to be "Demo Spunk". When the beat kicks in with the vocals is when the pyro hits and I step through the fog and creep through the smog en route to a world championship. This record is the real deal. Pet Sun are currently touring through the States. Catch their CD Release Parties on April 2nd at Doors Pub in Hamilton and April 15th at the Silver Dollar in Toronto. – Kris Gies
“Haunts” EP from Copperfox does just that
Copperfox has its roots out West. Founding members Rory Mohon and Lisa Garcia packed up their instruments and moved to Nashville from Portland, OR, which is about as far west as you can go without getting saltwater in your hightops. And while they’ve certainly picked up some Nashville cues since getting their current lineup functioning in early 2015, they’ve held on tight to some out-west surf vibes straight into their recent Haunts EP. Composed of two songs and a remix of each, Haunts pulls together an impressively diverse set of influences from electronica and synthpop to the aforementioned jangly, shimmery rock leanings.
Check out Haunts below and follow the appropriate channels for updates from the band, including information about an upcoming tour. –Austin Phy
Brain Salt plays The Shop on 3.17
There’s a beauty and freedom in being a new band, mainly consisiting in being free of any preconceived notions or assumptions of their style based on previous works. This often translates into a sound that’s fresh sounding and unpretentious, and this is exactly what Brooklyn’s Brain Salt has done with their debut EP ‘Crowds.’ Opener “Wisdom of Crowds” and “New Orbit” play with synths and twinkling, textural piano compositions whereas “New Theme from Troll 2” has more of a theatrical nature to it and heavier guitar rhythms. See them live at The Shop in Brooklyn on March 17. – Adriana S Ballester
