MCBC has come a long way since his days with the live funk band b.Funk. Six years and as many mixtapes into the game, he’s proven himself an intrepid bombast in the independent scene with a talent to match his will. With a rap style akin to a young Jay-Z with a more creative perspective and a budding beat fetish, he crafts songs that bump and energize. It’s like the first line from his R.A.R.E. Mixtape, “It’s mister ‘All About My Highs,’ stay away from lowlifes… little do they know we about to go around the globe twice.” Keep an ear out for where he lands.
New Music Video: “Take On Me” – Free Cake For Every Creature
The new music video for Free Cake For Every Creature’s “Take On Me,” which can be found on Moving Songs, (Double Double Whammy) offers a glimpse into that bedroom sound via a VHS recording. These images reinforce the direct candid nature of the lyrics and how they can hit home. Before a run of west coast dates with I Tried to Run Away When I Was 6, Free Cake For Every Creature is set to perform this Wednesday at Kat Frat on a bill that also includes The Goodbye Party, Small Wonder, and Care.
Art pop duo Gliss release new album Pale Reflections
The multi-instrumentalist duo Gliss dropped their newest album Pale Reflections after a heady recording/mixing process in Berlin, and it’s been on perpetual repeat for me. 10 songs merge Kick in Your Heart’s ’60s garage rock revivalism with newer modes explored in Langsom Dans: gossamers of synth and boy/girl whispers drape over the slow-burn of distortion that’s simply to die for. It’s hypnotic, it’s carcinogenic — it’s a brilliant return for the Copenhagen/Los Angeles veterans of the art pop underground, bridging the lustrous textures of The Kills and Beach House. Fans of The Vandelles and The Raveonettes will feel right at home with Pale Reflections‘ tenebrous instrumentation full of feedback and toxifying hooks.
The entire album is available on Bandcamp, Amazon, iTunes, and the band’s personal label Kraftwööd Musik Fabrik; listen to the title track below. – Ryan Mo
The Dead Deads Release “Lemonade” Video
Stream: Sneakout, “Savior”
Sneakout (neé Victory) starts "Savior" bold, in terms of both frontman Robert Fleming’s canyon-spanning vocals and the claim implied by the title. The lyrics solidify it: he’s saving us from the doldrums of life, promising to be a "razor" cutting us free in order to "get us living," guaranteeing it with Southern-fried riffs. Fittingly, there’s a secret agent strut to the fuzzy guitars, making a good soundtrack for 1960s teens looking to escape home for the night and feel like badasses as they do. But Sneakout isn’t pinned to any one vibe: you can find a sassy, hard-edged cover of Lana Del Rey’s "West Coast" on his website, which also links to all his available music. Grab a free download of "Savior," and get excited thinking about the possible ways Fleming can dress up his funk in the future. – Brian J.K. Regan

Bill MacKay (Darts & Arrows) and Ryley Walker are teaming up to release an instrumental record, Land of Plenty, via Whistler Records. The seven tracks on the album were recorded during the duo’s month long residency at The Whistler in January 2015 by Alex Inglizian of Experimental Sound Studios and was mixed by Erik Hall (In Tall Buildings, Wild Belle).
You can celebrate the release of Land of Plenty with MacKay & Walker on August 12th at The Whistler.
Wicked Man Releases Single – Soil Leaking Water
Oakland’s Wicked Man is an undeniably unique act with influences ranging from Fela Kuti and Ali Farka Touré to the songwriting prowess of John Prine and Andrew Bird. The group’s new single, Soil Leaking Water is an eclectic blend of bluesy fingerpicking, soaring synths, electronic drums, and darkly haunting vocal melodies.
The track is birthed in sounds of sweltering, trance-like guitar licks, comes of age in its jazzypopfunk groove, and builds strength with eclectic frontman Yonatan Tietz’s soulful vocals, keyboard master Andrew Kunz’s synth work and drummer/percussive coordinator Max Denny’s self-sampled electronic functions. As a band, their sound has evolved and expanded upon the bold 2014 debut Fingership EP, growing into a more intricate tapestry of fantastically enticing rhythms that leaves us all chomping for more.
Give this track a listen. Hell, give this track ten listens. Put it on at yer July 4th backyard BBQ. It’ll grow on you, that’s for sure. Wicked Man will be releasing their next EP in September and touring the West Coast in the fall. More info is available on their official website, wickedman.com. – Justin Kohlberg
Bryce Dessner of The National Plays San Francisco Symphony’s FREE Outdoor Concert – 7/12
We’ve learned that the Bay Area has the unique opportunity to hear composer, Bryce Dessner (of the Brookyln based indie rock band, The National) perform his orchestral composition, St. Carolyn by the Sea (for orchestra and two electric guitars) at Pier 27 on the Embarcadero from 12-2 pm.
The event is hosted by the San Francisco Symphony and it’s going to be cool to see the city get a little bit of postmodern classical music whiffing and whirling through the air! Not a lot of people know that Bryce Dessner is a classically-trained musician and he’s written a lot of orchestral/classical pieces.
You can take your friends and family to this event…and this is probably the best cheap date opportunity of the year!
Highly Suspect unveils video for Lydia + tours the UK in 2016
We have no idea how this new video by NYC alt rockers Highly Suspect was shot, but it sure is breathtaking. In 2014 this single, entitled "Lydia," provided the trio with a lot of attention from blogs, Deli included, since they made our latest list of Best Emerging NYC Artists. The band’s debut album, "Mister Asylum," is set to drop July 17, and although strangely enough there’s no mention of a US tour to support the release, the band already has shows booked for a 2016 UK tour (talk about planning things in advance!).

New Music Video: “Jackal” – Bad Braids
Below is a lovely new music video from Bad Braids, a.k.a. Megan Biscieglia, for her stirring track "Jackal." It’s the lead single from her latest LP Eye of Night, which was The Deli Philly’s June Record of the Month. The video was filmed at South Philly DIY space Cha-Cha’razzi by Daniel Pennington with additional animation from Tim Buckley.
Tearjerker- Perfect
Perfect by Tearjerker is a shoegaze-ish summer anthem. The beauty and melancholy of the track is evident in every aspect of the song. The circular synth line, floating up and down as the song moves along, combined with the myriad of slow, softly droning instruments all providing a bed that makes time feel like it isn’t moving at all. The spacy, distant vocals put the listener right into the middle of the whole thing, a walk down the beach into the sunset. With so many different little things happening, the song demands repeated listens, feeling just a little bit different with each playthrough. Raising the tension and volume just a hair for the ending, and coming to a relatively abrupt ending, is a fresh feeling on an ambient track. It builds and builds and builds through the whole song, a conversation of something deep and personal that builds until the truth is revealed, and ends on a high note. Every little bit of Perfect is necessary, and feels just that. Perfect. Look for Tearjerker to drop their new album, Stay Wild, July 17th. I certainly can’t wait to get my hands on it. – Cody Wright
