Doomgazers SHEER plays Club Violaine with Mercury Antennae, Carisa Bianca Mellado

Posted on:

With their first music video just a week away, Simi Valley’s SHEER comes out to perform with San Francisco’s ethereal wave duo Mercury’s Antennae and dark experimental singer Carisa Bianca Mellado at Club Violaine. Resident DJs will also be spinning songs in tribute to Lush along with other classic ’90s shoegaze hits till 2 AM.

Since 2001, Club Violaine has kept its hand on the beat of Los Angeles’ shoegaze-dreampop scene, hosting local and visiting acts including The Meeting Places, Light FM, Chapterhouse, and more. For seven years, Club Violaine was hosted at Roberto’s Club near Chinatown until the establishment closed late 2013. Now it seems Club Violaine has found a new home at the M-BAR Music Lounge in Boyle Heights, easily accessible via Metro. Cover is $5 all night and doors open at 9:30 PM. – Ryan Mo

From the NYC submissions: DYLLAN

Posted on:

With her soft and silvery voice, mellow-yet-passionate compositions, and poetic and intimate lyrics, New York-by-way-of-LA singer-songwriter DYLLAN has the potential to conquer many hearts. Her latest single “Moments Like These,” an emotionally complex reminiscence of a love gone wrong, was released in March of 2015 along with this simple music video, and shows a noteworthy maturation compared to earlier repertoire. DYLLAN has released two EPs thus far, her debut “Acclimating,” out in 2010, and the follow-up, “Anything But Scared,” from the following year. While living in Paris, she also collaborated with French electronic artist Thylacine on a track entitled “Distance,” which became the single of the week on iTunes in France. While she currently has no upcoming shows planned, DYLLAN is set to release several new singles over the course of 2015, so be sure to keep an eye out. – Patrick Wolff

Noise lovers, see Show Me The Body live at Palisades on 07.10

Posted on:

We’ll say it folks. Our feeling is that in the NYC scene these days too many indie bands are playing it either too safe, or too… unsafe? There’s just so much garage rock and ’90s revival (on one hand) and insane/unstructured noise (on the other) anybody can deal with. It’s time to mix things up a little! Brooklyn’s Show Me the Body is a rare example of a band that’s successfully exploring new sonic avenues without losing sight of song structure. Their sound marries the darkest trip hop a la’ Tricky with post punk, noise rock and sludge metal impulses. We dug their ‘One Train‘ single from last year, and find the more recent one entitled ‘Space Faithful’ (streaming) as compelling. If you are brave enough to experience this noisy trio live, don’t miss their upcoming show at Palisades on July 10.

ROOM8 shake off the breakup in “No Hard Feelings”

Posted on:

The electro-pop power duo of ROOM8 composers Ezra Reich and Nic Johns recently released their newest single, “No Hard Feelings”. Accompanied by King Deco to create the catchiest breakup song to date, the track is coated with an uplifting dance beat to ignite the fire in your swelling heart. An upbeat bittersweet ending to a fling that was never meant to last, it seems as if Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist was missing a hidden gem. First time I played this song, I actually was going through a breakup that wasn’t all that important to me (regrettably) and ended up walking through downtown with noise cancelling headphones, (embarrassingly) strutting to the beat of this song. ROOM8 has a way of getting inside your head, soul and in your copy of Rolling Stone Magazine, as they were listed in the Top 20 Albums of the Year for producing Kitten’s self titled LP. “No Hard Feelings” reminds us that breakups are difficult but not impossible to get over. It gets better. – Kayla Hay

Weekend Warrior, June 26 – 28

Yes, there is plenty to do this weekend, but where you really need to be at is Johnny Brenda’s tonight for the double release celebration of Creepoid’s new LP Cemetery Highrise Slum (Collect Records) and Ecstatic Vision’s forthcoming EP Sonic Praise (Relapse Records). With Creepoid’s latest, you’ll find the band’s best work since Horse Heaven. Check out our review of Cemetery Highrise Slum HERE! And guitar lovers need to get wise to Ecstatic Vision’s debut release, a combination transcendental shreds and primal beats. Relapse was, at first, interested in putting out the band’s original demos, but the group wanted to go back into the studio to do their first label release proper, and it has been worth the wait. You really don’t want to miss how these fine albums play out live! Brooklyn post-hardcore quartet Sick Feeling will be kicking off the evening’s festivities. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. The album is filled with lo-fi indie pop that features Will whaling away. The album also features a fantastic cover of Big Star’s "Thirteen". We welcome Will to Chicago and look forward to more from The Movies.

CAPYAC and the Smoothest Music in Austin Right Now

Posted on:

Later this week we’ve got a piece droppin’ on our latest Artist Poll tiers Slooom (that’s the "people who tied" kind of tiers btw, not the stacked thingies), talkin’ about their drip-beat beautiful new video "Honey," but as a bit of a prelude to that, here’s a new track by CAPYAC, the other big project from (the producing half of Slooom) Delwin Steven Campbell along with Eric Peana. This track is called "How I Feel" and it takes that classic and classically reworked "Feeling Good" hook and turns it into silky fun sexfunk glory. That’s future sexfunk glory, if you want to get specific about it, and "How I Feel" is an immediate hip-mover with its quick-picked melody and bright organ backbone folding right into a big, hip-hopped, chopped-up song that you do wanna get down to. We’ve already known that CAPYAC has that true smooth funkdisco thing, like they vampired it right outta the 1977 Bee Gees, and CAPYAC obviously also has their modern elements of beat construction and electronic instrument-use right on point too. However, with "How I Feel" it’s just been real good and confirmed- we now also know that, undoubtedly, CAPYAC is making the sexiest, smoothest music in Austin at this moment. Thank you CAPYAC for being so clear in your claiming of the throne. It’s nice to have questions settled so easily.
