Chastity @ the Silver Dollar

Posted on:

Their website is eerily black with their band name Chastity scratched across the top. I thought my screen was actually scratched I had to look closer…It wasn’t …but by now I’m listening to “Lash Out” from their Soundcloud page. The same spooky senses came over me as the song began with creepy guitars and drawn out vocals, then enters a catchy chorus that kicks in and gives the track a cool dynamic. The solo and 3rd verse build up nicely to the final chorus; which yourself excited to hear one more time. Solid tune! “Manning Hill” is more of a straight ripper! 2 minutes of energy! 2 minute energy is way stronger than a 5 Hour Energy! So if you need a boost I’d suggest you listen to Chastity. See them Saturday @ Silver Dollar with other our friends The Effens.-Kris “Big City” Gies

Known to Collapse Release New Music Video

Posted on:

Oakland based indie folk music project, Known to Collapse just released a super well done music video. Music project creator and musician, Kevin Lehner and his crew did not skimp on production value with this imaginative narrative that is the music video for his single, Circulated Undercover Ground.

Circulated Undercover Ground takes you on a trippy ride by displaying strong storytelling through great acting and clear imagery. Putting together a great music video is not as easy as it looks, but Known to Collapse makes the feat look effortless.

If you’d like to help the band realize more of their goals, you can contribute to their Indiegogo campaign.

EP Review: Apartment 3’s Porch View

Posted on:

New England seems to have the whole lo-fi garage rock thing on lockdown recently. Burlington, VT’s Apartment 3 have added further evidence to that statement with their recent EP, Porch View. Heavily soaked in 90s indie rock sound (think Pavement or Built to Spill), these guys pump some insane energy through your headphones. I thought the vocals on these tracks were great–screams, shouts and everything in between. Most of the time it sounds like the singer drank a six pack and started belting out whatever immediately came to mind.

Pinkwash Record Release Show at LAVA Space April 3

Posted on:

A litany of emotions are vented through an unrelenting display of aggression as the duo of Joey Doubek & Ahley Arnwine team up as Pinkwash. Tonight at LAVA Space, the tandem celebrates the release of their new 7" "Cancer Money"/"Skin" via DC punk outfit Priests’ label Sister Polygon. The album is an adrenaline-loaded series of songs that amps listeners up with its raw forceful nature. Doubek’s vocal styling is a primal war cry that feeds into the musical bombardment of heavy, heart-racing, full-speed distorted guitar and the nonstop stampede of Arwine’s percussion, culminating into a forgiving hurricane of noisy punk prepared to engulf anything that stands in its path. Joining the celebration is Flyherder, providing soothing electro-synth pop with an ever-present percussive pulse. The lineup also includes the intense space-cruising buzz of experimental Montreal noise-rock trio Mands and Brooklyn native/Jacksonville resident drag queen rapper, Twinki. NYC Buzz Alert! Soul pop trio Strange Names plays Mercury on 04.08, announces debut LP on Frenchkiss

Posted on:

Referencing the extraordinarily sophisticated and catchy soul-pop of Hall & Oates, recent Brooklyn transplant (via Minneapolis) Strange Names have found a way to inject new life in the ’80s revival. The band just released a video for single "Ricochet" (streaming) that perfectly recreates the minimalistic style of the early MTV years, minus the almost inevitable cheesy stumbles of that era’s productions. The song, performances, and production are rather impressive. If these guys can pull off what we see here in a live setting, they are going to have some fun years ahead. We can find that out on April 8th at The Mercury Lounge, or at any of the other three NYC live shows they have scheduled in the next few weeks. Strange Names’s full length album is scheduled for a May release on Frenchkiss Records.

The Landing hits #1 on Hypem.com + plays The Knit on 04.17

Posted on:

The Hype Machine is particularly good at highlighting electronic tracks by emerging artists, and there are a lot of acts out there that managed to get close to the top of their charts at some point. But climbing those charts twice is no easy feat, and automatically excludes those who pull it off from the dreaded "one hit wonder" category. Just about a year ago, the cosmic synth pop of NYC’s The Landing went viral through hypem.com with debut single ‘Anxiety’. Today, the brand new single ‘Then Comes the Wonder’ (streaming) actually reached #1 on that same site. Congrats are due to the (one man)  band, who recently made the list of our Best Emerging NYC Artists of 2014. You can catch The Landing live at The Knit on April 17th.

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best electronic songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!
