Video: Skinny Bones’ “Sleep In”

Posted on:

Skinny Bones’ released a video at the tail end of last year to accompany “Sleep In” off of their album Noise Floor. This folktronica outfit from Jamaica Plain consists of Jacob Rosati & Christopher Stoppiello, and their array of pedals, triggers, and sequencers. The new video is fits their sound really well, disjointed but organic, and always a freaky juxtaposition of natural elements and digital splices and dices. It’ll definitely make you look at your breakfast a little differently that’s for sure. Filmed by the band and edited by Peter Ferris, the video is a really cool collaboration that resulted in a cohesive pairing of video and music. You can buy their tunes here. – Paul Jordan Talbot

Tumbleweed Wanderers Release New Single – Into the Mines

Posted on:

The San Francisco based psych blues band, Tumbleweed Wanderers have released a new single entitled, Into the Mines. In our humble opinion, Into the Mines is a turning point in the sound of Tumbleweed Wanderers. This crisp, ethereal track is very different from their past collection of music which has a sound that is mainly infused with heavy blues rhythms and psych folk anthems. Into the Mines takes on an experimental indie sound, touching on elemental styles that can be compared to Panda Bear and the early music of The Shins. This is not an insult. In fact, the full and potent production of this new track and the new creative take on the band’s general style is impressive and transformative.

Into the Mines is a refreshing track that’s going to cleanse your musical palette like orange sorbet on a hot summer’s day! This song is the second single from the band’s upcoming album, Realize, due out on June 9th. You can receive Into the Mines as a free track if you pre-order the full album, Realize here.

New Track: “Hold On, Here It Go” – STS x rjd2

Posted on:

When two of your favorite artists collaborate, the potential level of excellence is sky high. Such is the case as producer extraordinaire RJD2 and emcee STS united for a creative endeavor. The album succinctly titled STS x RJD2 is scheduled for release on May 5 via R J Electrical Connections, and it’s first single “Hold On, Here It Go,” which premiered over at Rolling Stone, is an exuberant multi-genre blend. Utilizing the Bohemian Dub Orchestra, the song breathes an optimistic spring air as STS delivers his customary sharp-witted, slick-tongued lines amid calming keys and the bright blasts of horns lifting it up in a soulful manner. Mark your calendars, and play this jam again because once won’t be enough.

“Hide and Seek,” Lovers League‘s first single and music video off their forthcoming sophomore album 2, which was produced with Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man, Lotus, etc.), has a gentle, rolling groove as Dani Mari and Reverend TJ McGlinchey’s vocals wrap around each other in a tale that creates a parallel between the innocence of youth and a blossoming attempt at love. 2 will be released on May 12, while Boot & Saddle hosts the record release show on May 8 that also features Vilebred, Levee Drivers and Frank Kolbman painting live. Tripp Out w/Waxahatchee at Union Transfer April 8

Posted on:

Katie Crutchfield, a.k.a. Waxahatchee, became an indie darling with the release of 2013’s Cerulean Salt. And with its follow-up, Ivy Tripp, that just dropped in the U.S. yesterday, it’s obvious to me and hopefully soon to most that her star will continue to rise, making her a sought-after headliner for larger venues and festivals. With a heavy tour schedule that will find Crutchfield on the road at least through most of June, I highly suggest that you don’t miss this evening’s show at Union Transfer. Waxahatchee will also be supported tonight by The Goodbye Party, whose debut LP became our January Record of the Month, and Wichita Recordings labelmates, Girlpool. Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 8:30pm, $15, All Ages – H.M. Kauffman

An interview with Bambara about recording

Posted on:

Brooklyn/Athens based trio Bambara plays that niche genre – unknown to most mortals – called "noise rock." You may have more luck getting a reaction from saying the words "Sonic Youth," the NYC band that pioneered and perfected the genre in the late 80s. In their latest album "Dreamviolence," the trio takes things to darker and sometimes even noisier extremes. We asked them a few questions about how it came together. The guys are lucky enough to have a sound engineer in the band, William Brookshire, who recorded the album and answered our questions. Read the interview on The Deli’s gear blog Delicious Audio.

New Track: “Something in the Way” (Nirvana Cover) – Nothing

Posted on:

With Nicky Palermo’s ambient guitar textures, Brandon Setta’s hushed vocals, and a lone piano (provided by Myrrias/Arc in Round‘s Mikele Edwards), Nothing captures the weighted melancholy exuded from Nirvana’s "Something in the Way," off 1991 classic Nevermind. The cover was recorded for Robotic Empire’s second Nirvana tribute album Whatever Nevermind, which will be released on Record Store Day. Nothing has upcoming plans to tour with Merchandise, and they’ll be finding their way to Philly on Sunday, June 7 at Johnny Brenda’s.

Video: LAYNE, “Somebody”

Posted on:

There is something oddly familiar about Layne Putnam and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Perhaps it’s because she just did what every teenager dreams of doing, uprooting from home and moving to the bustling city of Los Angeles. Though it doesn’t end there, this 19 year-old bombshell released her newest single on April 1st off her EP Warrior, "Somebody". An indie punk rock jam with an 80’s pop feel, it tells the story of leaving her hometown for the big city to follow her dreams. The video does a great job at highlighting the sharp guitar and drumbeats while adding powerful visuals to tie the two together. A new sensation to the dark indie pop world, Layne is hoping to positively impact her audience on her upcoming U.S. tour. Layne’s Spring tour dates can be found on her official website, Facebook and Tumblr. – Kayla Hay

Wave & Rome Debut Single “Across the Map”

Posted on:

It took frontman Sam Tinnez three years of working, reworking and reimagining with a handful of collaborators (namely Josh Farro of Paramore repute, with mixing and mastering courtesy of Brad Bronlewee and Chad Howett.) During this time Tinnez also earned his stripes writing and producing with other Nashville acts including Young Summer, Farro, and Ruelle. The debut single of this long-simmering project, dubbed Wave & Rome. With nostalgia as an underlying theme to Wave & Rome’s upcoming EP "Across the Map" (out this summer via Unsecret Music) the title track reflects on more innocent times, with driving drums and a beachy, warm weather-appropriate tone to the lead guitar. Check out the single and five remixes below, and keep up with W&R at www.waveandrome.com. -Terra James-Jura

Rugaroux Is Coming for You

Posted on:

Rough and tumble, that’s what Rugaroux is. And it’s a style and sound in short supply these days in this town; we’re all about the pretty, but what about the gritty? That’s why we’re liking the first material from Rugaroux, a new Austin punk band in the classic vein of fierce and ferocious guitars over a relentless, fist-shake-ready beat. Rugaroux is, by the way, a term that refers to a mythical and revered wolf/human hybrid beast from ex-pat French cultures as found in French Canada and Louisiana, the latter of which it is said to stalk through, roaming the swamps and fields. That Rugaroux the band has a Louisiana connection then makes complete sense, and that their two tracks “Deadly Dance” and “No Desire” come at you all vicious and biting is also fully fitting for their feral name. In a thoroughly punk way, they’re almost wholesome, by which we mean they do a punk’s heart good, hitting all the right, nostalgic feels but putting their own, new twist on the style. In other words, just what you want to hear from a contemporary punk band. Let’s hope this wolf-creature gets howling on a few more new tracks soon, and in the meantime, listen to their first go at recording below.
