There’s probably a couple of times I could have been considered a Beach Creep…but I wasn’t as cool as the band Beach Creep from Toronto. Extraordinary DIY, Beach Creep is indie divine with gentle voices and artistic guitars. They released their latest EP “V” in January of this year. It opens up with trippy intro “Peas and Lentils” then leads into “Sprout”, which has nice vibes, the kind that make you feel like everything is going to be okay. “Old Shoes” caresses delicate vocals over subtle guitars that carry heavy harmonies. Beach season is just around the corner so make sure you do your bicep curls…then buy this EP from Beach Creep’s bandcamp page and relax in the sand. If you missed them @ The Cavern Bar on Friday, stay tuned on bandcamp for more show details. –Kris “Big City” Gies

Ecstatic Vision Opening for Enslaved at Union Transfer March 22

Posted on:

As we await Ecstatic Vision’s debut LP via Relapse Records, they setup shop this evening at Union Transfer. The group relishes in the aura of heavy psych, stomping through in thick engulfing waves that takeover one’s headspace in that pleasant surrender of raunchy rock. Riffs soar in a melodic nature as a prominent primal freakout is formed by the consuming backend thrust and the vocals cut through like a demonic sermon. You’ll want to buy it hook line and sinker. Tonight, they will be joined by a pair of Oregon groups that similarly serve rock cultivated from the dark sludgy corners of the mind. YOB crafts extended doom-y sorcerer tracks, while Witch Mountain is cut from a similar cloth embracing a classic hard-rock core as blunt bass and percussion clear a path through the wilderness. Having just released a new album In Times, Norwegian metal veterans Enslaved complete the circuit with their controlled attack of thunder. Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 7pm, $17-$20, All Ages – Michael Colavita

2015 Treefort Music Festival Preview: Portland Artist Highlight

Posted on:

The fourth annual Treefort Music Festival is proving to be the biggest one yet. Not only is it their first year as a licensed LLC, but this year’s lineup is larger than any previous year with over 400 musical acts, not to mention whole mini-festivals dedicated to comedy, performance art, technology, yoga, skateboarding, beer, and then some.

With massive national musical acts headlining the festival like TV On The Radio, Built To Spill, Foxygen, Yacht, Viet Cong, Of Montreal and !!!, just to name a few, the $139 price of a full-weekend pass is pretty much already god damned steal, and that’s barely 1.5% of the full 2015 lineup. Adding to the glory of this year’s festival, the vast array of amazing Portland bands making the trip to Boise makes Portland one of the most represented cities of the festival. Think of it as a huge rager with all your favorite Portland bands and friends, just in a new, way more fun location.

To help you sort through all of the madness, here is a quick list of some of the Deli Portland’s favorite Portland bands who will be performing at this year’s Treefort Music Festival. Find out exactly where and when they will be playing during Treefort, here

Reefer Madness w/The Divine Hand Ensemble at PhilaMOCA March 21

Posted on:

The infamous anti-drug cult classic Reefer Madness is one of those timeless over-the-top films that has gained notoriety for all the oh so very right and wrong reasons over the years. But for better or worse, the so-bad-that-it’s-good cinema classic is the appropriate movie to be screened within the Eraserhood, especially when there’s a live orchestra doing an adaptation of the score. Led by professional Moog-endorsed concert thereminist, Mano Divina, The Divine Hand Ensemble is a one of a kind eight-piece orchestra that has an enchanting way of bridging the divide between classical music and the people who need to hear it. And before they take the stage to accompany Reefer Madness, they will be on hand to perform live scores to vintage animated shorts as well. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $10, All Ages – Bill McThrill

Cools Points have been staying true to their namesake, and gaining some for the past couple of years by playing badass basement shows and touring with the likes of Mumblr, Amanda X, and Bleeding Fractals. Tonight’s show at Everybody Hits will be business as usual for the hard-hitting four-piece. Show Alert: Creature Comfort at The 5 Spot Saturday 3.21

Posted on:

All your buds down in Austin right now? Well, enjoy a night out with your extra funds not spent on gas and tacos at The 5 Spot this Saturday. Our buddies and Artist of the Month winners Creature Comfort are returning from a brief hiatus with a few friends to make you thankful you stayed in Tennessee. The quartet put out the amazing "Fox Tales" last year, an intelliegent mashup of dream pop and Modest Mouse-level prosiacism (check out the beautifully shot and NSFW video for "All My Friends" below.) They are being joined by darkly catchy Cincinnati crew of Injecting Strangers and more hometown sounds from female-fronted party rockers The Saturday Night Specials. The show starts at 8pm and is a measly $5. Come on out! -Terra James-Jura

Upset unveil first single off new EP, details spring tour

Posted on:

Pop punk quartet Upset are releasing a new EP, ’76, on March 31st via Lauren Records. The first unveil off the EP, "Glass Ceiling", is a fuzzed out rocker with a hooky melody and jerky punk rhythms. In other words, business as usual but nevertheless great.

The band will also be supporting Colleen Green on an upcoming tour throughout the month of April.

Miss Geo Release “Mouse on the Moon” Single, Announce April 19 EP Release Show

Posted on:

The first day of spring brings with it flowers, warm weather and dreams of summertime beach hangouts–unless you live in New England; then it brings 25 degree temperatures and forecasts of snow for the weekend. Fortunately for all of you readers (within and without the Northeast), I’ve got just the thing to usher in the spring season: a new track from Boston’s beloved electro-pop duo Miss Geo. “Mouse on The Moon” is off their forthcoming EP, Shapes, due out April 19. I’ve been a fan of Miss Geo for awhile, and “Mouse on The Moon” certainly lives-up to my expectations. The track gives off a very open sound, with the listener feeling as though they’re floating in space, watching synth notes pass by on their way to a trendy intergalactic dance party.

If you’re as anxious as I am to hear the rest of the new EP, check out Miss Geo’s EP release show on April 19 at the Middle East Upstairs. The show, presented by Lysten Boston, also features ColorGrave, Casey Desmond and Child Actor.

Weekend Warrior, March 20 – 22

The Spirit of the Beehive perform this evening at First Unitarian Church to celebrate the release of their debut self-titled LP via Ranch Records, which garnered The Deli Philly’s Record of the Month in December. The band finds that happy medium between comforting, spacey, shoegazing haze drawing you intimately close and the more instrumentally aggressive, grimy immediacy of grunge songs. That introspective vibe bodes well as one dives in headlong, and provides distinct bubble-breaking contrasts when the subtle scene defining tones are transferred over to tormenting torrential illustrations. Japanese Breakfast, the side project of Little Big League’s Michelle Zauner, delves into the experimental pop realm. Zauner’s crisp vocals searchingly swim as she digs into a series of diary-oriented narratives that take her to serious moments, but still makes pit stops in lighthearted places. Pop-punk trio Blowdryer incorporates sludgy drone amid a gritty straight-ahead energy. The experimental bedroom pop output of former Philly native now NYC resident, Eskimeaux, harnesses emotion in a clean, catchy, elegant manner, plucking at your heartstrings along the way. New Track: “Museum Pass (Small Professor LSD Mix)” – Dewey Decibel

Posted on:

Emecee/producer/visual artist Dewey Decibel dropped a new EP, A Different Drum, earlier this year via World Around Records. It was produced by Zilla Rocca, who is one of his partners in crime in the hip-hop collective, Wrecking Crew. Another member of their gang, Small Professor, also just shared his hallucinogenic, boom-bap interpretation of the track "Museum Pass," which is also available for streaming.
