A Very Glam Rock Purim at 1fiftyone Gallery March 6 – 8

Posted on:
The drinking of Saint Patrick’s Day and the costumed revelry of Halloween combine during stylish nights of glam rock-infused interactive musical theatre in honor of the Jewish holiday Purim. A Very Glam Rock Purim has been a tradition for Shwaman Josh (of The Really Cooks) for quite sometime, and this year, he took it to a whole new level by renting a theater space for three nights, writing friends into a the interactive play, and getting wine ready for the celebration. The sold-out event kicks off tonight at 1fiftyone Gallery & Performance Space, and features lavish rock icon-inspired characters like Freddy Mordechai, Haman Boo-wie, Ziggy Starberg, and the Kiss-le Guards. Also, CDs of all the songs will be available this year. L’Chaim! 1fiftyone Gallery, 151 N. 3rd St. (Behind Cafe Ole via Quarry Street), 8:30pm, Sold Out, All Ages – Bill McThrill

FOAM @ THE CENTRAL

Posted on:

A three-piece punk rock noise band –Foam, originating from London, Ontario, is slowly storming the music scene. Hailing sludge-infested distortion and an abundance of guitar feedback; this trio really shows they know how to bring the noise. Amidst the cloud of sound, these guys still maintain a moving and unique song structure, while the sporadic use of vocals hints at their obvious punk influence, adding to the intrigue of their sound. They’ll be leaving their garages and basements behind this weekend; Foam is playing the big city alongside fellow Londoners, Political Séance. Go catch them March 6 @ The Central.-Courtney Chalapenko

Tasseomancy

Posted on:

There are two opportunities this weekend to catch the experimental twin sister group Tasseomancy. I checked out their tracks starting with their latest single “Reality”; It made me completely forget what I was doing…so I listened to it again… I like to call them “Trippy Folk”, modern ambient sounds that are skillfully imaginary. So you should grab your folks n’ friends and check Tasseomancy @ Smiling Buddha March 8 and @ The Baltimore House on March 9. Do it! –Kris “Big City” Gies

A Deli NYC premiere: Chris Riffle’s video for “Nothing But the Waves”

Posted on:

"Arresting" is arguably one of the best compliments a song can receive: a song powerful enough that gets you to stop for a minute; a song that miracolously forces you to pay attention; a song that moves you, that reminds you that there’s still a part inside of you able to feel. NYC songwriter Chris Riffle‘s latest single "Nothing But the Waves" is such a song, and we are proud to premiere its evocative video here on The Deli NYC. Like a new Chris Isaak, Riffle keeps things simple, focusing on the depth of the lyrics and the cadence of the words, while the few chord changes drop effortlessly, but almost surprisingly, and create a melodic opening that boosts the song’s emotional power.
Chris Raffle is set to release his new album ‘Out of Town’ on April 7, 2015, you can see him live at Rockwood Music Hall on March 31.

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best mellow songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Born Cages announce LP “I’m Glad I’m Not Me” + play SXSW

Posted on:

New York anthemic pop-rockers Born Cages are releasing their debut album, "I’m Glad I’m Not Me," on June 2nd, just in time for your summer mix tape! If you’re a weather optimist (stuck in a hopeless NYC winter) and are already compiling those rooftop jams, you’ll find some noteworthy candidates in their debut EP "The Sidelines," featuring five mostly upbeat, soaring, and heavily melodic tracks – which will also appear in the full length. Born Cages is one of the first bands to join new NYC label Washington Square, joining The Hold Steady and former The Virgins singer Donald Cumming. They will co-headline with Dreamers on a full US tour beginning on March 4th heading to Austin for SXSW, and tour again this summer with the 2015 Vans Warped Tour. – Leora Mandel

New Track: “American Smile” – Creepoid

Posted on:

Though Creepoid is currently setting up shop in Savannah, GA, there ties still remain strong here in Philly. We’re always interested to hear new material from the grungy psych-rock four-piece and former Deli Philly Best Emerging Artist Year End Poll Winner. The band just shared the first single, "American Smile," from its forthcoming full-length album entitled Cemetery Highrise Slum, and also announced that the LP is slated for release on June 23 via Collect Records. It was produced and mixed by Peter Mavrogeorgis (The National, Sharon Van Etten, etc.). Creepoid is presently on tour out west with A Place To Bury Strangers, and will be heading across the pond for the first time this spring as a group to do a run of shows in the UK with Pity Sex.

Check Out This New PUJOL Video Courtesy of Everything is Terrible

File this under #SEIZURE. LA-based found-footage collective Everything is Terrible has teamed up with Daniel Pujol for his latest video "Manufactured Crisis Control." The result is a perfect compliment to PUJOL‘s hyper-intellectual punk rock, and exactly the thing you want to watch in a completely darkened room after a prolonged period of sleep deprivation. It ought to get your chops slobbering for his upcoming set at Freakin’ Weekend VI; Pujol is playing Exit/In on March 14th with JEFF the Brotherhood. Penicillin Baby Release Single “Stick It Out”

Posted on:

Feeling a little feverish? We got some new Penicillin Baby to cure what ails you. These guys are all action for 2015. They’re just finishing up their new album and are currently on a spring jaunt across the Southeast that has not one but TWO hometown shows: March 11th at Mercy Lounge with Gunther Doug and Chrome Pony, and March 23rd at Queen Art Collective with Ava Luna, Body of Light, and Lala Lala. Check out their awesome new jam "Stick It Out" that just dropped yesterday. We feel high and sunburnt just listening to that surfy guitar dance amid all of that fuzz. We’ve heard unspecified rumors of "big things" coming from these guys "soon," so consider out interest piqued. However, if its a concept album that syncs up with an arthouse flick from the 70’s…we’re out. This town is too small. –Terra James-Jura
