Set to drop February 24th of this year, The Black Ryder has decided to self-release their newest and upcoming album The Door Behind The Door. After roaring reviews and positive vibes from press and fans with their 2009 album Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride, duo Aimee Nash and Von Ryper are bringing new textures, an organic drive and earthy melodies to contract a new, personal connection to the music. Lucky for us, two singles have been pre-released for our enjoyment, including ‘Seventh Moon’ and ‘Santaria’. “Seventh Moon’ is a dreamy combination of Nash’s sensual, relaxing voice and Von Ryper’s loaded chords and mellow, effortless flow, creating a creepy form of psychedelic rock. The Black Ryder is best paired with a dark room, scentless candles, Dragon’s Blood incence and a bottle of red wine. Enjoy irresponsibly. – Kayla Hay
The Deli (the Producer, Not the Magazine)
We in the posting-about-cool-shit-online business have a term for some objects of our posting attention. That term is "super-ridiculous-slamdunk." Well, okay, yes; I might be the only one using that term (for now). But, finding a killer hip-hop producer out of Austin called The Deli (Twitter//Soundcloud) when you are yourself a music website out of Austin called The Deli, is a superdamnridiculousslamdunk, I think you can agree.
The Deli’s beats are smooth and creamy; they come at you like a room slowly filling with gold champagne, liquid and bright and soaking you up to your head in good feelings. The sampling and switches are clever, and use their influences with aplomb: I especially love the retro lo-fi vocal samples used to provide mood in tracks like "#shareair," which has a kinda 60s TV theme thing goin’ on that gets chopped up nicely into contemporary as fuck hip-hop. The silky jazz instrumentals and what sounds like a sample from a pitched-down, slowed-up Latin track in another new The Deli joint, "1Luv," are the kind-of samples that get me to automatically stop what I’m doing to close my eyes for a sec and start the head-nodding.
Get meta with us today and let us slice you off a couple pounds of The Deli here at The Deli. Here’s a track that’s about as new as new can get (9 hours old, at this posting). This one’s The Deli producing beats for East Coast spitter NA$TY, and we’ve got this track (which is already blowin’ up) all wrapped up and ready for you to take with you out the door. Have a nice one, and come on back in when you’re ready for more. The Deli will get you sorted.

Spider returns with a new project : Teachers or Police + plays Pianos on 01.28
We’ve been fans of Jane Herships’ Spider for quite some time, although after four years of silence we thought the project had come to an end. We were therefore pleasently surprised to see that Spider is performing at Pianos on January 28. And we were even more surprised by the sound of the new single, that abandons the clean instrumentations of her early records for a more edgy and noisy sound bordering on industrial music, without losing the project’s signature intimacy. A male figure appears on the single’s bandcamp cover – which seems to imply a collaboration with a programmer. Jane informed us that the single is part of a new project called Teachers or Police, and that an EP is about to be released.
Waterfall Wash EP Release Show at fooBar 1.31
Waterfall Wash will finally be releasing their debut EP, "Foreign Chords" on January 27th, after almost five years since their inception in 2010. Their folky storytelling has evolved over time, an assemblage of instruments have been collected (you won’t find many groups with a dedicated autoharpist) and a sense of the dramatic has been honed. The handful of singles Waterfall Wash have released over 2014 are marked with flourishes from a multitude of influences, like screaming electric guitar solos in "Landmark" and a twee acoustic tune leading into fiddle and all the handclaps in their most recent tune, "Visions." Throw in their penchant for Chicago’s jazz underground, and that’s alot of sound to be packed into one EP. We’re excited to hear how it fits.
Waterfall Wash is having an EP release show this Saturday at fooBar with kidDEAD, Rales, and The FUTURE. Show starts at 9pm, and cover is $5.
NYC Alt Folk band on the rise: Wilder Maker plays Baby’s All Right on 01.31
We are not sure how old the guys in Brooklyn’s roots quintet Wilder Maker are, but they seem to write and perform with maturity beyond their years. The mellow alt folk you’ll find in their latest EP "Everyday Crimes Against Objects of Desire, Vol I" is beautifully textured and radiating some kind of wisdom, conveyed by the alternating male and female vocals, which are full of tamed melancholy and emotion. Check out single Zion below and see them at Baby’s All Right on January 31.
We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best rootsy songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Streaming via NPR’s First Listen, the album once again finds the band teaming up with producer Will Yip, delving further into the band’s spacey, shoegazing side while still retaining their punk roots. Title Fight roll into town on Thursday, March 26 at Union Transfer.
