mewithoutYou enjoy a sold out holiday homecoming at Johnny Brenda’s tonight before they embark on an early 2015 tour of Australia with Dr. Dog. And if you weren’t able to finagle tickets to this evening, then you still can grab ones for a mysterious show at First Unitarian Church this Tuesday headlined by Thy Foes Profanely Rage (“long time band from Philly”) with Eight Legged Prawn (a band “from a little town called Lititz”). Welcoming them home for the holidays this Sunday will be indie R&B/soul fusionists Pattern is Movement. The duo of Andrew Thiboldeux and Chris Ward had a great 2014 emerging from hibernation with a self-titled full-length release, which stands to be their best to date. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, SOLD OUT, 21+ – Bill McThrill

MC Lex Rush releases “Unbridled Enthusiasm” EP at Trash Bar tomorrow (12.28)

Posted on:

Queens-born MC Lex Rush gives new weight to the notion of “Femme Fatale.”  Having quickly risen through the ranks of the NYC battle-circuit, she is known for her strong stage presence, deft wordplay, and ability to quickly cut down her competition.  This Sunday Dec 28th, she celebrates the release of her new EP "Unbridled Enthusiasm," headlining an indie-rap tour-de-force featuring the polymath Mike Larry Draw, B.S., and DJ Rickman. Trash Bar in Williamsburg doesn’t usually cater to the rap crowd, so this Sunday night, show up and support the movement. 7pm, $7, open bar 8pm-9pm. – BrokeMc

Legendary Divorce Opening for Creepoid & Amanda X at Boot & Saddle Dec. 27

Posted on:

Boot & Saddle must be in the holiday spirit, because tonight’s lineup is packed with talent from top to bottom. Let’s start with the opener, Legendary Divorce, a four-piece who originally came together as a Nirvana tribute band for Halloween show in 2012. Their debut EP Make Me is a rugged blend of agitated aggression. The songs have a tendency to immediately pounce on one’s ears. Itarya Leo’s vocals occupy a space were pensive rage and sadness compact themselves. The unfiltered byproduct joins up with steady, slightly dark instrumental tones, which are forceful yet frayed. Leo’s voice etches a path through the noise-punk, thumping music like a fireball amid organized chaos. The soothing psych-shoegaze-y buzzsaw of Creepoid headlines the evening orchestrating a haunting beauty through ominous layers of noise that has a cathartic effect. The garage-pop power trio of Amanda X bridges the gap of their personalized sincere yet catchy tunes. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8:30pm, $12, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Down and Outlaws Support Reignwolf at the Independent TONIGHT

Posted on:

The San Francisco based rock band, Down and Outlaws will be performing tonight at the Independent in support of the Canadian powerhouse of a one man band, Reignwolf. This is going to be a night of heavy fuzzed out blues rock. Reignwolf has been compared to Jack White and loved to listen to Ray Charles and Howlin’ Wolf when he was a kid. If you’re into any of those artists you should check out Down and Outlaws early in the evening and stay late to get the full effect of the garage rock blues experience of Reignwolf.

The latest track by duo We Are The West, "Regards", couldn’t be more apropos for this holiday season. The tender, meditative track by members Brett Hool and John Kibler appears on their latest EP of the same name,  which is composed of three tracks that are meant to be a "thank you" to their fans as they continue to work on their continuing four part album series.

Weekend Warrior, December 26 – 28

Posted on:
It only happens once a year. Philly pop-punk favorites The Starting Line (featuring Kenny Vasoli of Vacationer) is back for their holiday reunion show. Crushing punk hearts across America, the band originally broke up in 2008. However, to appease a still active fan base, they started an annual Christmas reunion show tradition in 2009. This concert is the only chance for at least aother year to hear them live, which guarantees a special show. Relatively new to the Philly music community, Beach Slang, who had a pretty rad year themselves, will be kicking the night off. In 2014, they released not one but two EPs: the summer release, Who Would Ever Want Something So Broken?, and fall follow-up, Cheap Thrills on A Dead Street. While they may have come together from various outfits including Weston, NONA, and Ex Friends, their new project is all their own, with crashing drums that are meant to be played loud and totally meme-able lyrics (check out their Tumblr). Scream at the top of your lungs tonight at The Troc with your best friends! The Troc, 1003 Arch St., 7:30pm, Sold Out, All Ages – Emily Dicicco

Video Premier Exclusive: Seance School’s “Carcajou”

Posted on:

One of the Deli Portland’s current Artists of the Month (we have two bands sharing the AOTM title resulting from a tie in the polls), Seance School who is more or less a brand new band to the city, is hitting the ground running fast as hell. The man behind the curtain of sound, Robin Washburn, creates a unique blend of ambient shoe-gazey indie pop with dark melancholic melodies and vocals reminiscent to Elliott Smith. With two full-length albums released in late october, the self-titled Seance School and Skeletal Noise: More Songs From the Static, there’s no doubt in my mind that Seance School will be gracing ears with a whole new plethora of recordings in 2015.

It is our pleasure to present the exclusive premier of Seance School’s brand new, trippy ass light party of a music video for the track "Carcajou" off of the self titled album.

For the lovers of lush pop, a New Year’s Eve with Dear Georgiana and Elizabeth & The Catapult at Rockwood

Posted on:

If you are not a fan of sweaty and chaotic New Year’s Eve parties, or if you’d like to take it easy in the early evening hours, Rockwood Music Hall has put together a very civilized – but extremely enjoyable – early show for the last day of 2014: Elizabeth & the Catapult (pictured) and Dear Georgiana are the brainchildren of two of the most talented NYC based female songwriters. and will take the stage of Rockwood 2, in that order, starting at 8pm on December 31.  Check out these two catchy and lush singles from their recent albums.
