Void Vision Record Release Show at KFN Dec. 3
Void Vision, a.k.a. Shari Vari, celebrates the release of her latest record Sub Rosa (Mannequin Records) this evening at Kung Fu Necktie. The album has a persistent percussive synth base, which predatorily lurks, providing a drafty dangerous atmosphere. However, these ominous tones simultaneously cause a protective shot of adrenaline, letting you escape into back alley groove, while eluding caution in favor of experience. Tonight, The Bad Doctors will join them in their dark-wave endeavor; the group’s heart-thumping, dance-accelerating electro-post punk takes varying sonic turns, rocketing through a narrowing unlit street that has the potential to lead to an airy open field. The bill will also feature Morsberger brothers experimental noise outfit Drums Like Machine Guns and the NYC-based synth-pop of YOU (whom are also on Blind Prophet Records with Void Vision). Matthew Kosloff of Pissed Jeans, a.k.a. DJ BCBG, will get the ball rolling. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Influential electro-pop duo The Blow plays Glasslands on 12.05
Not exactly an emerging band (the project has been around in a shape or another since 2002 and has already enjoyed some degree of popularity) The Blow‘s music is nonetheless still rather overlooked, and deserves the attention of all those who (like us) are in love with the delicately edgy electro-pop experimentations of bands it anticipated (and probably influenced) like St. Vincent and Glasser. Initially the solo home recording project of Olympia, Washington based songwriter Khaela Maricich, the act became permanently a duo in 2004, when Jona Bechtolt (now of YACHT) injected his electronic production into its sound; the collaboration peaked with the band’s breakout 2007 album "Paper Television." After Bechtolt’s departure, Melissa Dyne joined in, bringing her background in installation, sound, and conceptual art into the band’s live show. This formation, which relocated to Brooklyn in 2008, has finally given us its first album in 2013, entitled "The Blow". The band’s live show is now half rock concert, half art installation, with Dyne often performing from a location off stage. Don’t miss the opportunity to see them live at Glasslands on December 5.
Congratulations to The Ignorist, Our New Artist of the Month
We’re happy to announce The Ignorist as our newest Artist of the Month. The band hing out in the rear until mid-poll, when a surge of votes bimped them up into the lead and kept them there. We’re thrilled to have them gracing the top of our little blog, so that anyone that ventures to click on the header will be similarly transported back to 1995. The Ignorist, though a generation or two behind, are dead ringers for the whole lo-fi college scene. We love the scewing guitars on their album "There is No Vacancy." We can’t wait to hear more from these gentlemen, and we’re going to use this blog as a platform to demand that they play out so we can buy them a beer. –Terra James-Jura

Monogold releases “This Bloom” EP, first in a series of three
A staple of the avant-pop Brooklyn scene, Monogold has been around long enough to have witnessed the "MySpace days," and in a showcase of true anti-comformism they haven’t abandoned that profile yet. The trio just released their third record, a six tracks EP entitled "This Bloom," which develops their shimmering and textured psychedelia in a more gentle and transparent direction. The band announced that this will be the first record in a series of three. Check out single "Under Daisies" below and don’t miss them live – the band can deliver on stage.
New Kal Marks EP
Sometimes after I drink too much I find myself mimicking Kal Marks voice. It’s never an effective pick-up move. But it is the driving howl of Boston’s most cohesive three piece that continues its dark & sludgy progression with Zimmerman being one of their most memorable songs to date. The organ on It Was a Very Hard Year is what you would hear when an evil clown is lurking nearby before the nightmare is over. It may be "just a lonely fart" but this one’s a little ripper that’s gonna leave a stain.

New The Goodbye Party Album Available for Streaming & Purchase
The Ambulars‘ Michael Cantor just released a lovely new full-length album, Silver Blues, under his moniker The Goodbye Party. The multi-instrumentalist recorded it at his home in Philly, from April – September 2014. You can stream and purchase ("name your price") the record below, and it will be available on vinyl via Salinas Records, which you can pre-order HERE.
Stream: Talk in Tongues, “Still Don’t Seem to Care”
The debut single by four piece Talk In Tongues, "Still Don’t Seem to Care", fills up the senses like a drug that’s beginning to take effect. A lysergic guitar lead enraptures the track as a constant drum pound marks its swirling contours, and yet it keeps a steady rhythmic propulsion instead of letting it drift. And just as the chorus cycles through just one more time, the track decides to end abruptly. The effect has worn off, and you’re immediately compelled to take another dose. The band is set to play two shows in the month of December, an in-store at Origami Vinyl on the 5th followed by a gig supporting Lou Umbra at The Cellar Door on the 20th.
