Watch Kelly Ruth’s “Monster Mash” Video; Attend Monster Bash 2014; Regret Nothing

We may have touched upon this upcoming show when talking about Tetherball earlier, but we’re worried that the depth and scope of the event wasn’t fully communicated. Monster Bash 2014 is scheduled for October 31st at Silver Point Studios, and will offer 16 bands on two stages, as well as a costume contest, tarot readings, and, most appropriately, a haunted house (because anyone that has sought out 10 Quality Way has probably already had a moment of fear that they were one wrong turn away from Saw VII.) Behind the madness is Palaver Records and Madhouse Management, which accounts for the awesome lineup including the likes of Kyle Andrews, The Wans, Sol Cat, The Blackfoot Gypsies, and Kelly Ruth.

Speaking of Kelly Ruth, the laid-back princess of quirk has released a video for her rendition of "Monster Mash" in honor of the occasion. Cute, campy, packed with familiar faces and lacking in neither confetti or the macabre, it sums up the spirit of the evening in one fell swoop. New Track: “Undertow” – DRGN King

With their new album Baltimore Crush due out on October 28 via Bar None Records, DRGN King just premiered the single “Undertow” over at Pancakes and Whiskey. The steady thudding basslines and casual vocals provide a calming atmosphere before shifting into higher gear, allowing the instruments and vocals to open up. The song finishes in a decidedly different place from where it started – much like the latest incarnation of the DRGN King project.

Magic Man Return Home After Eventful Summer

This Sunday, October 26, Magic Man will be returning to Boston for a sold-out show at The Paradise. After a spring and summer that saw the release of a new record, playing the Boston Calling Music festival and their first-ever headlining tour, the band have certainly found a way to keep busy over the past few months. “Summer was great,” says guitarist Sam Lee. “It was our first time headlining and it was great to have a lot of people [at the shows] who knew the lyrics to the songs.” 

Still riding the crest of their latest album, Before the Waves, the band are trying to let the music they’ve written speak for itself. “We’ve been writing [new] stuff–we love writing–but we’re trying to focus on our live performance [at the moment],” explains Lee. The band has several more stops on this leg of their tour before wrapping up in Vancouver just before Thanksgiving.

The Luxembourg Signal Releases Debut Album When You Motor Away

The Luxembourg Signal is something of a new beginning for its band members, since three thirds of the band was part of Sarah Records signees Aberdeen. There’s a legacy attached to their name, but this latest project is anything but – though their stylized, danceable indie pop holds many parallels to the former, the tracks off their latest full-length, When You Motor Away, are thoughtfully crafted and hold a distinctive musical identity all on its own. This, of course, is a sign of experience, a band who retains their youthful innocence in their shimmering mid-tempo chuggers whilst demonstrating their knack for soaring, dreamlike melodies. When You Motor Away is out now via Shelflife Records.

Ecstatic Vision Opening for Creepoid at Underground Arts Oct. 23

If the idea of heart-pounding, trance-inducing, raucous rock that temporarily encases listeners in an alternative sonic dimension is the remedy you’ve been looking for, Ecstatic Vision is serving it up at Underground Arts tonight. The band recently signed to Relapse Records, and has plans for releasing its debut early next year. With extended, heavy vibes filled with sweaty fuzzed guitars, relentless backend and scorcher-inspired vocals, be prepared to be sucked in. However, you’ll want to be at UA all night anyway with a lineup that includes the soothing cosmic navigation of neo-psych outfit Drone Ranger, whom are consistently changing speeds as they traverse farther out. Then, there’s Ruby The Hatchet, whose rough-edge 70’s hard rock sound, isn’t so much a throw back but rather a timeless tradition with its interlocked thick, rolling groove and guitar lines that take that step ahead, letting the flames emerge bigger, all while Jillian Taylor’s vocals provide a calming fervor. All this will set the stage for the earthy noise-rock of Creepoid that seeps into your pores and finds a home there. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

JP’s CMJ 2014 Day 1: Vomitface, PC Worship, Broken Water, GHXST, Calvin Love, The Mystery Lights, O.J. Pimpson, Dream Police, Echo Bloom

This is my first time covering CMJ. I’d attended in the past, but never with an actual agenda. It’s overwhelming from the get-go. Having an under-established or unclear schedule is like being in a life raft with no oars, in the middle of the ocean. Alone. I made an all too familiar mistake from step one, getting in the artists’ line to pick up my press badge. It was a bit of a wait, but I met a cool dude from a band called Echo Bloom, who calmed my nerves (his band’s music excels at that too, see track below), as I was afraid of missing the first showcase I wanted to see, only to find out at the end of said line, that I didn’t have to wait at all. The press booth line was just about non-existent, and the performer booth was kind of spilling over, giving the illusion of two separate lines. What the hell. New Track: “Face” – Psychic Teens

We’re excited to share a new track with you from Psychic Teens. It certainly has been a while since we’ve heard from the post-punk power trio, and "Face" doesn’t disappoint with its combustible guitar licks and Larry Ragone’s ominously macabre diction. The single is the A-side to the forthcoming 7" that the group will drop on November 7 via Reptilian Records. They’ll also have a big release show that same evening at Boot & Saddle with legendary hardcore outfit F.O.D., a.k.a. Flag of Democracy, and Hound, who will also be celebrating their new album with SRA Records.

The Love City Horror Show Takes Place Tomorrow Night – 10/23

So, we don’t know much about Love City except that the promoters and organizers behind it are throwing a massive All Hollows Eve party tomorrow night. We at The Deli think you should attend because the line up is local and extensive and you’ll probably see a lot of strange costumes. The community is coming together to put on a festival-esque event that is daring to be unique and encourages you to step out of the every day club scene we have all happily and fortunately grown accustomed to.

Wild Child release new LP

 Recently, the Scoot Inn threw a going away party for the true-to-heart indie folk band, Wild Child, as they departed for their European tour. Various stringed instruments – including the violin and cello – surround the sweet and sour vocals of Alexander Beggins and Kelsey Wilson. The dainty keys, perfectly toned bass and drum beats, when needed, balance the rest of the band. This six-piece band plays in true harmony to the beat of the music world. Wild Child has been recording their newest LP, The Runaround – which was just released on October 20th. -Halie Davis
