Green Gerry Play the Bootleg on 10.29

Posted on:

Athens, Georgia native, LA-based Green Gerry first began as the bedroom project of Gerry Green. Gerry oversaw the entire project by himself until he assembled a group after the release of his second album, King Baby. His translucent lo-fi has since captured the attention of major indie label Mom + Pop, who approached Gerry to re-record one of the tracks off that album under their offshoot singles label Mermaid Ave. Since then, Gerry has recorded a second single, "Mumbo Jumbo", a slack psychedelic track that displays Gerry’s pop sensibilities whilst honing in some slightly warped guitar work.

You can catch Green Gerry at the Bootleg tomorrow, October 29th as part of the monthly Blind Date new music series.

The Mantles Release New Music Video – Memory

Posted on:

Bay Area based veteran garage rock band, The Mantles have released a new music video. Memory is written and displayed in classic underground fashion with the band performing in their living room and keeping it all local.

This is much appreciated. With all the uprooting and change going on in San Francisco and the Bay Area, we can always seem to count on The Mantles to stay consistant and always come back home.

Check out this new music video and support local music!

Year of October Release Video for “Gone”

Posted on:

Following the Quentin Tarantino school of thought that good music is enhanced by bad kung fu (or is it vice-versa?) Year of October put out this video at the beginning of this month for their song "Gone." The track is off their brand new album "Golden Days," which was just released on October 11th. We’re clearly digging us some steady, gritty blues this week, and are thrilled to be able to find it in our own backyard. Year of October have the notoriety of winning our Artist of the Month earlier this year, and have clearly been hard at work since then, hitting the road on a regular basis between recoding stints. They hit Springwater Supper Club on November 15th with The Dead Gypsies and Fat Tuesday and the New Custards. -Terra James-Jura

Preview: Shred of the Dead 2014

Posted on:

There’s an unnecessary push to party sometimes. During certain holidays, people expect you to GET OUT THERE and UNLEASH THE BEAST. Well, now there’s an appropriate reason to do both of those things at the very least this upcoming weekend.

Over the course of three significant nights, October 30th through November 1st, Buzzface presents have curated a festival destined to live up to its name: Shred of the Dead.

Beginning on Thursday, October 30th, Dante’s will host Tango Alpha Tango, The Grizzled Mighty, Fox and the Law and Foxy Lemon. The costume contest begins. Attendees will have a rare chance to wear whatever they want inside a place with a couple of catwalks and listen to amazing, heavier sounds from the Pacific Northwest.

Halloween night, Minden, Animal Eyes, the Lower 48, Cambrian Explosion and Chrome Lakes will play Star Theater. This is where the costume contest ends.

November 1st, White Mystery, the Cry and Mister Tang close the entire event with one final rager at Bunk Bar.

JP’s CMJ 2014 Day 5: Slowdive, Low, Moon Duo, White Fence, A Place to Bury Strangers

Posted on:

I promised myself this would be the day I planned everything—the day I wouldn’t have to rush, I’d be where I had to be, when I had to be there, arriving in a calm, collected manner, the whole day. I kept my promise inasmuch as my day starting late, cutting some of the showcases I thought about running to, and meeting my aunt and uncle for a beer at Smorgasborg. I’ve learned that, for the most part, at CMJ, if you miss a band playing an afternoon set, chances are you’ll be able to see them at an evening set. Or better yet, a late night set. – Keep reading JP Basileo’s reporting of Day 5 of the CMJ Music Marathon.

The Bad Lovers

Posted on:

Hotel Vegas is a venue that welcomes local bands with open arms. The Bad Lovers will help them kickoff their second anniversary weekend. The Bad Lovers’ surf-garage rock sound is the perfect soundtrack for a Halloween Friday.  Like their name suggests they have a simple yet occasionally sloppy rock and roll sound. Nothing earthshaking but who really likes that anyways. There is nothing bad about taking it nice and easy. Released last October, their LP, Wild Times, does just that. The 15-song album is laid-back rock and roll listen that would pair well with any party. Grab a drink and check them out at Hotel Hot Burrito’s two-year anniversary weekend kickoff show at Hotel Vegas this Friday, Oct. 31

GrandeMarshall Opening for Freddie Gibbs at Underground Arts Oct. 28

Posted on:

Yes – as the months flash by and the end of another year stands starkly in the distance, one can’t help wonder: Will GrandeMarshall‘s official label album ever see the light of day? Hope continues to glimmer in my eyes and rattle in my ears with his latest video for "Burning Rubber Freestyle," another single off his long-awaited My Brother’s Keeper, which still hasn’t received a drop date from Fool’s Gold. I guess that we’ll just have to hear some of the tracks live tonight at Underground Arts, along with hopefully others from his brilliant 800 and Mugga Man mixtapes, when he opens for hard-livin’, Gary, Indiana badass Freddie Gibbs. This one-two combination is a welcomed pummelling for hip-hop fans, and I’m guessing that the venue’s backstage will surely be filled with a hazy cloud of blunt smoke so don’t expect to get out of the basement at a reasonable hour for work the next day. I suggest that you already start coughing or mentioning that you’re feelin’ some sort of way if you haven’t taken tomorrow off yet. That’s my protip for ya; you can take it or leave it. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $18, 21+ – Alexis V.
