Amanda X Record Release Show at Philadelphia Record Exchange July 26

Posted on:

Cat Park, Kat Bean, and Tiff Yoon, the garage-pop punk trio otherwise known as Amanda X, celebrates the release of their debut full-length album Amnesia, via local beloved indie label Siltbreeze Records, this evening at Philadelphia Record Exchange in Fishtown. The group’s tight-knit attitude transfers over to their songs, demonstrating a well-rehearsed, all-on-the-same-page focus, which is an inherent strength. Amanda X continues to evolve, grow and gain strength, displaying an honest emotional side, vocally and with those wicked, sneaky guitar lines. Amnesia was recorded by Uniform Recording’s Jeff Zeigler (The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, Nothing, etc.). Nightmom departs on August tour

Posted on:

Forget the dads of the day. Nightmom is heading out on an extensive tour following the release of the double single “Domino/Girlswamp” last month – but before you see them live, make sure to download the Providence duo’s trippy new singles on Bandcamp for a foggy foray in experimental psychedelic rock. The tour begins and ends in the band’s hometown, but will take them as far as Texas and British Colombia, Canada. Tour dates are still being confirmed, so keep tabs on their Bandcamp page or Facebook for the latest updates. – Jake Reed (@jakejreed)

Jonathan Timm EP Release Show 7.26

Posted on:

Jonathan Timm released "These Hours" on cassette as a teaser for his upcoming EP.  The title track is vignette of haunting electric guitar and swoops of lapsteel; a perfect slice of moodiness and desolation. It’s one of those trust-establishing tracks that hooks into you, and opens up your ears to whatever else he’s created.  The other three tracks on the tape range from more brooding Americana to full-on traditional country, all crafted with a steady hand.  He’s a seasoned perfomer with several trips across the US under his belt, so his Saturday EP Release show at Mad Donna’s promises to be entertaining.  Listen to the "These Hours" below. -Terra James-Jura

Phil Beaudreau plays The Sayers Club on 7.29

Posted on:

Phil Beaudreau operates on a level of seriously superior pop sensibilities. His debut, Ether, is a staggeringly groovy album. With mostly electronic production, the textures create a smooth, dreamlike ambience. The tasteful variation of influences that Beaudreau pulls from earns the album a comparison to Gorillaz, where Damon Albarn’s rejection of consistency became a trademark. RnB, funk, soul, hip hop, and pop all find its place onto the album, resulting in a truly successful amalgamation of genres. His collaboration with Dawaun Parker is especially satisfying; it contains a sick horn sample, and Beaudreau’s breakdown in the middle of the song feels like it’s suspended in zero gravity. Stream the track below, or head over to the soundcloud to stream the album. – Jake Saunders

Villa Coola

Posted on:

Villa Coola is the new project of Gehring Miller (The Welcome). With The Welcome recently announcing that are "taking a break for the foreseeable future" it seems Miller needs a new outlet for his talent. This is a shift from the sound of The Welcome into a more of an Alt-Folk, lo-fi sound. Miller released his first batch of recording via soundcloud last week. You can stream/download the entire EP here.

You can catch Villa Coola at Beat Kitchen on Aug. 10th with Mike Petruccelli, Jason Swearingen, Hi Ho, and Gar Clemens.

Check out Justin Sherburn’s Montopolis Tonight at the North Door

Posted on:

Justin Sherburn’s compositions sound like incomplete stories; with enough detail to imagine a landscape, the pieces are tactfully designed to leave enough room for imaginary characters. Like vignettes, they are short, elegant, and timeless. Expect to become a part of the story when listening to these beautifully crafted soundtracks. Empathetically constructed, the pieces foster our human inclination to seek out foreign experiences and emotions. Listen to "Sparrows" from the Yakona soundtrack and you’ll find yourself wandering an alternate reality. Sherburn’s sextet, Montopolis, has performed live shows at SXSW and will debut his newest project inspired by the classic silent film, "Man with a Movie Camera" at the North Door TONIGHT July 25th at 8pm. -Rebecca Blandon

A Great Big Pile of Leaves plays Music Hall of W’burg tonight (07.26)

Posted on:

Around since 2007, A Great Big Pile of Leaves has been slowly but surely building an enviable fan base through their quality indie pop, that turns the sonic clock back to the more or less alternative pop of the 90s, from early R.E.M. to Prefab Sprout. Led by Singer/guitarist Pete Weiland and drummer Tyler Soucy, the group released their third and most acclomplished album in 2013 and spent the last couple of weeks touring with Braid. The second to last leg of the tour will see them perform at the Music Hall of Williamsburg tonigh July 26.

Ex Cops announce new album + premiere single ‘Black Soap’

Posted on:

NYC dream pop duo-with-band Ex Cops just premiered the single ‘Black Soap’ (streaming below) on… Vogue! We often wondered what kind of requirements a band’s gotta have to be covered on the fashion magazine’s ‘culture’ pages, but now we get it! It’s all about having a model in the band – fair enough! However, Ex Cop is a band that trascends questionable choices based on facade: we booked the guys for our CMJ show last year and they put on a great show. The new single is a taste of the upcoming album ‘Daggers,’ scheduled for a late October release.

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Get Hypnotized by I IM EYE MY at The Boot & Saddle July 25

Posted on:

Tonight, the combination of Al Creedon (Bleeding Rainbow) and Sean Hamilton (Spacin’, Acid Kicks), a.k.a. I IM EYE MY, opens what should be an entertaining sonic exploration at The Boot & Saddle. The duo, intricately layers textures of sound, creating perpetually on the move batches of animated music, warping you into a hypnotic groove that’s part Casio, fuzz, and tribal percussion. Stacking up together on stages, that could alter your mind’s eye. Speaking of shape shifting, Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel may be just what the doctor ordered as the launch into guitar-driven orbits on spiritual quests that peacefully place you further out there, setting the stage for the consistently evolving experimental psych noise rock of Brooklyn’s Oneida. Mount Sharp drops video for “Icarus”

Posted on:

We highlighted fuzz pop Brooklyn via Maine trio Mount Sharp in this blog in April after they landed a Pianos Residency. They are now unveiling this video for single Icarus (streaming), an intense track that progresses from a chilled intro into an explosive finale through an almost incessant crescendo. The band will be playing live at Park Slope’s Union Hall on August 1.
