Haunted Hearts unveils video for “Up Is Up (But So Is Down)”

Posted on:

A musical collaboration between bicoastal duo Brandon of The Crocodiles and Dee Dee Dum Dum Girl, Haunted Hearts recently released their first full-length album “Initiation” on Zoo Music. A video for the song “Up Is Up (But So Is Down)” provides playful gender-bending visual imagery to this overall concept. Presented like a psychedelic dream, boys in lipstick and other garments typically associated with the feminine side lip-sync much of the track. Credited as a dance performance collective called Chez Deep, they are joined by Brandon and Dee Dee, also in glam-trash attire. The track itself benefits from a dominant bass guitar line, fuzzed-out guitars and brassy synths, as the in-tandem vocals meld Brandon’s tenor with Dee Dee’s vibrato. The feel is similar to something Love & Rockets in their mid-90’s “Lift” period would have produced. Check out the video below. – Dave Cromwell

Shaking Through w/Cayetana

Posted on:

Here’s the latest episode of Weathervane Music‘s Shaking Through featuring all-female pop-punk trio Cayetana. The video definitely provides insight into the type of relationship that these ladies have built from playing music and being in band together. The song that they recorded at Miner Street Recordings is called "Miss Thing," and is about singer Augusta Koch’s grandmother, whose portrait hangs in their practice space. You can stream the track HERE, which will not be on the group’s upcoming LP that will be available via Tiny Engines. Cayetana is currently on a national tour with The Menzingers.

Making Americana Gold :: Harvest Thieves

Posted on:

Making a name for yourself in the crowded ranks of the Americana/Country scene isn’t an easy task in Austin.  With great acts like Leo Rondeau, Crooks, Mayeax and Broussard, Mike and the Moonpies and dozens more playing weekly and filling The White Horse regularly for years now, it’s refreshing to see new names and great new bands finally getting attention.  Harvest Thieves are just one of the many great bands to recently break out but they aren’t exactly new on the scene.  Lead singer, Cory Reinisch and bassist, Dusty Meyer also front the group Guns of Navarone, who have made their own mark around the city for the last four years.  The group is releasing a 7” split with Minneapolis singer, Sam Cassidy June 5th at Holy Mountain with a great bill of heavy hitters and two amazing songwriters, Ben Ballinger and A. Sinclair.

Premiere: The Love Dimension – Got Gratitude

Posted on:

Psychedelic revivalist band, The Love Dimension has released a new single entitled, Got Graditude. This San Francisco based veteran band has recorded and shared a heavier track that pulls from psych folk, surf and garage rock influences. The Love Dimension is usually a straight shooter when it comes to dolling out a classic 60s rock sound, but Got Gratitude is a fast paced, danceable track that would invoke movement and shaking within the most comatose spirit.

We’re a big fan of The Love Dimension, and we’re excited to premiere this song! Look out for a full length album from this local, staple of a band later this year. They’ve done such a great job of being diverse and positive with their songs and releases over the years, we’re always into giving them a nod. You can see TLD perform live at the Haight Ashbury Street Fair this Sunday on the Masonic Stage at 2 pm. Don’t miss their show!!! –je

Eye Design Promotions Unveils New Record Label

Posted on:
After nearly three years of booking great local and national talent around the clubs and basements of Boston, local promotion group Eye Design has announced the launch of its own record label, Eye Design Records. The four-band roster currently consists of Boston-area punk/noise/rock from the likes of Horsehands, Idiot Genes, Harris Hawk and Onslo.

The label’s first showcase will be happening on June 11 at Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge, MA. This is shaping up to be one hell of a show. In addition to celebrating the release of Harris Hawk’s new record, this show has been fused with one of Eye Design’s classic “Treat Yo Self” events. In case you’re unfamiliar with the concept, "Treat Yo Self" involves bringing together several talented bands and local artists (and the occasional food vendor), allowing artists to display their work, all while listening to some kickass music and eating locally-made food–cool, right? Well, it gets even better. Boston Hassle, yet another local, DIY-inspired show/community promotional organization, has recently teamed-up with Eye Design to produce the Treat Yo Self Series. In other words–this event will unequivocally rock.

The show starts at 9PM on the 11th. 21+, $5 cover. For more info, check out the event’s Facebook page.

Split Wigs EP Release Show at The End 6.07

Posted on:

Split Wigs is an unholy mashup of member from Dogtooth, Dirty  Dreams and Prince Coyote and the Dog Men.  Since they are in the throes of their infant stage, there’s not to much to know about them aside from their capability of slinging some fierce noise.  Their debut EP, "Reservior Park" draws influence from across the punk spectrum, hitting shades of The Cramps, Wire, GBH and Titus Andronicus in a 5-song span. Opening track "Body Double, Blood Trouble" should get you good and surly this Wednesday afternoon.   They’ve most recently rocked Boro Fondo in April, and a cassette release show is booked for June 7th at The End with Road Block, Of Archers and Couched.  -Terra James-Jura

Sludge Punk Trio Show Me The Body to Tour with Ratking this Summer

Posted on:

I’ll say off the bat that I’ve been listening to this band since high school, so you know already that I’ve got a personal connection to them.  Of course back then their best song was called “spliff song” so it’s not hard to see why I liked them; the reasons I like this band now are very different from back then.  Show Me The Body is a New York based three piece whose sound has been consistently developing into a progressive avant-punk aesthetic, equipped with dark imagery and basement scenes galore.  Frontman Jay Cashwan wields a 4-string banjo and an intense (almost threatening) stage presence, as if to say “come on, I dare you to fuck with my band,” dredging up images of a dark and sinister underground New York untouched by anything remotely clean or bourgeois.  But don’t let the muddy vibes fool you: although an undoubtedly lo-fi element is present, SMTB has been harnessing an increasingly specific and progressive sound, and they execute it perfectly on the stage.  You can catch them this year on their tour, with hip-hop up & comers Ratking, this Summer (Asbury Lanes on June 11th is their closest date to home). Hear their track “One Train” below. – Jake Saunders
