Salt Cathedral, an electronic band with airy world overtones we’ve been following since its inception, just released this new single entitled ‘Tease,’ which will be featured in the band’s upcoming release, scheduled for later in 2014. The band will be playing at the Bowery Ballroom tomorrow supporting Young and Sick. – photo by Sasha Vu
Hess is More live at Nublu’s 12th anniversary party
Stylish as only Europeans can be (Nikolaj Hess hails from Denmark), Hess Is More could be described as the Monet of electro. His light touch is almost transparent, the aural balance of colors transcends wisdom, and the simplicity of his music is only apparent. He also doesn’t lack a good amount of irony, as testified by his 2011 breakout single "Yes Boss," where a ridiculously ambiguous conversation between male employer and female employee is given the Hess treatment. Don’t miss the live shows with full orchestra – probably NOT tonight’s one, in tiny but legendary Alphabet city night club Nublu (also home to an electro record label that gave us Brazilian Girls among others), which is turning 12. Streaming below latest single ‘Wheel of Fortune.’

NYC Artist on the rise: Arum Rae (ex White Dress) plays Brooklyn Bazaar on July 12
Bloody musicians… you can’t take your ears off them for a minute that they change their band’s name and move to a different city without telling ya! This is the case for now Brooklyn based artist Arum Rae, a project known in its Austin incarnation as White Dress. The debut EP under the new moniker, realeased earlier this year, is titled after the beautiful single ‘Warranted Queen’ (streaming), which sounds a little like a modern version of ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ sung by a lady. Now it doesn’t get more NYC than that, does it? We were rooting for a sax solo at the end of the tune! The other tracks on the record reveal a more electronic and soulful musical attitude, which solidly places Arum Rae in the new wave of quirky caucasian artists experimenting with soul influences. Look out for a full length out later this year, and a show at Brooklyn Bazaar on July 12.
We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best Mellow Core songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Stream: MOTOFIGHTR, “Grow”
As we rapidly lead into the summer season, there’s always that spirited debate about which songs will soundtrack the scorching Pacific sun. MOTOFIGHTR, the duo comprised of Alec Feld and Miles Gabriel, are making a compelling offer to anyone’s mixtape addition with their latest track "Grow", a rush-inducing dance track that begins with a seductive tropical beat and breaks into a relaxed surge of glinting, tuneful guitars and sparkling synths. "Grow" maybe not be included on their upcoming debut EP Pacific Post Highway, due out on July 15, though there’s always the possibility that portions of the track may be featured in some capacitiy. Still, it’s quite the generous introduction into their tasteful electro house.
Empires on Letterman
Did you catch Empires on Letterman last night? If not, here it is. They play the title track from their new EP, How Good Does It Feel, which was also released yesterday via Chop Shop/Island Records.
You can catch Empires at House of Blues on June 24th.
Mojek
Mojek has released a colorful video for his track "Six Flags" which comes his most recent mixtape Into The Night Vol. 2. Mojek mixes electro-pop and R&B to great effect.
Irresponsible video for “Up and Up”
First things first, I love everything about Irresponsible. After I found them on Facebook about a year ago, I immediately got a message from their singer/guitarist, Ryan Paladino, thanking me for liking the page and supporting the band. Outgoing musicians who don’t take themselves too seriously make music scenes that people can be proud to become a part of. Once I got an email from my editor asking me if I’d be interested in covering their new music video for the song "Up and Up", I was thrilled to cover it. The video is witty and funny, just as self-deprecating as the band in itself. Babes, booze and the one-liner “Let’s get this motherfucker started,” combined with great music to rock out to make for a fantastic music video. Check out their video, and their music. They’ll appreciate it just as much as you will. Irresponsible are currently recording their 3rd album. –Hannah Brady
Show Alert: Brandon Brains Album Release Party at Cafe Coco 6.21
This will be Brandon Brain’s second full-length, but one of many projects he has added his touch to. Brains has been under the moniker since 2011, slinging out vivid stories, social commentary and scientific facts with deadpan sincerity. "Snakehands" is his first release on Nashville hip-hop label Invisible Library, with the stipulation from founder Nathan Conrad that it be 100% sample-free. Brains teamed up with long-time collaborator The Amazing Parker to tackle the obstacle, coming out the other side with a full album of completely original material (check out the dusky opening riff of "Talebearers Backbiters.) His CD release party is at favorite haunt Cafe Coco on June 21st with Korey Jejuan Parker (more details here.) This is the kick-off of a 2-week run through the Southeast with fellow #RAPCLUB member kidDEAD, which draws to an amazing and completely appropriate close with a performance at the Nashville Comic and Horror Convention on July 12th. -Terra James-Jura
Synth-pop NYC duo Manican Party EP release party tomorrow (06.18) at Baby’s All Right
Tomorrow Manican Party – a band we booked for our 2013 Best of NYC Fest’s electronic night – will be celebrating the release of their new EP ‘The District’ with a show at Baby’s All Right, which seems to have become the venue where everybody wants to have their release parties (admittedly, that wall of lights behind the stage is awe inspiring). The single from the EP (whose video is streaming below) has already gathered a fair amount of plays on Soundcloud and Youtube, and showcases the band’s melodic and percussive sound, led by Jess Corazza’s bright and present vocals.
