Thursday May 29th at 7pm, Brooklyn blunderbuss Warren Britt celebrates the release of his new EP ‘Awww, You Mad?’, available on Britt’s bandcamp page. Like the MC himself, it’s a record full of love. Producer Chaz Van Queen laces the 7 tracks with a wide array of style from the boom bap funk of “Off We Go Again” to the drum roll chaos of the title track. Like all of Britt’s work, the record takes you for a ride and at the end you’re inclined to start it over immediately. Also, I ain’t mad at all after listening to it! The release party at The Studio at Webster Hall on 5/29 features Tyquan Sounds, Teddy Faley, and Silent Knight. That’s almost too much good local hip hop for one night.
Low Fat Getting High releases EP/zine + opens for Titus Andronicus on 06.12
Low Fat Getting High is one of the most prominent Brooklyn bands riding the new wave of guitar rock inspired to the noisy 90s, although they predated this trend, since they’ve been releasing their first record in 2012. Their recent ‘Poor Circulation’ EP is their noisisest and darkest record to date, and also the best produced one. Reoccuring sonic references to noise rock, blues rock and even metal are framed within four wild punk rock nuggets. Also, ‘Poor Circulation’ is not just an EP but also a ‘zine, illustrated by the band’s lead singer/guitarist (and frequent Deli visual contributor) Michael Sincavage.
The band (which also made our latest Best of NYC list) will be opening for Titus Andronicus and Eagulls at Warsaw on June 12 during the Northside Festival, and is currently working on a full length scheduled for a fall 2014 release. Check out the EP opener Emasculator, streaming below.

Tales of Olde to celebrate EP release at Great Scott on May 28
After riding the past few months out on its latest singles "Why" and "Ghost in My Head," Tales of Olde will finally release its debut EP on June 3 – but not before celebrating its release tomorrow night, May 28, at Great Scott in Allston. "Why" is a sparkling cut that questions a lover in a failing relationship: "Tell me now, why won’t you leave me," vocalists Evelyn and Lucas Cortazio sing in unison on the song’s chorus. Released earlier this month, "Ghost in My Head" is a subdued ballad with a whistled hook that rises above the song’s indie gleam. If you’re in the Boston area, the show starts this Wednesday at 9 p.m. Score your tickets at Ticketmaster now and be sure to check the band’s Facebook page for the EP next month. – Jake Reed (@jakejreed)
Seen live at Baby’s All Right: Fletcher C. Johnson
We were at Baby’s All Right on 5/17/14 to check out a few interesting local artists. Opening act Juniper Rising started the night out with garage alt country, featuring a pedal steal player and twangy female vocal harmonies. Up next, Bad Girlfriend, an all girl group with great fashion sense, fit the night of garage rock with style. The main treat of the night however, were New York City darlings Fletcher C. Johnson. These boys filled the venue with their brand of jingle-jangle surf-rock, making it hard for the members of the audience not to bounce along to their tunes. Frontman Johnson’s stage banter and lighthearted stage presence makes the downtime in-between songs as enjoyable as the group’s tunes, which are filled with fun references to the pop of the 60s that are perfect for the upcoming summer season. Their songs include catchy melodies, clever lyrical content and dance inducing energy. Their latest record “Salutations” is out on Burger Records. The band will be playing live again at the Bushwick Block Party on Troutman st at the Jefferson L train stop on Sunday June 1st. – by Jessica Louise Dye. Spaceship Aloha & Norwegian Arms Opening for Oumar Konate at JB’s May 27
Multi-faceted worldly musician from Mali, Oumar Konate, makes his Philly live performance debut tonight. And he’ll also be joined by a lineup of multi-faceted worldly locals to complement this occasion. When he’s not banging away at the drums for Man Man, Christopher Sean “Pow Pow” Powell is the savvy producer behind Spaceship Aloha. The artist manages to construct a lush blend of vibrant electronic melodies amid a space-age Hawaiian musical landscape. And the end result may have you dancing in a fervor. Whether it’s the ukulele-fueled minimalist approach of Trimming of Hides or the whimsical, melodic use of electronics to round out the sounds on Wolf Like A Stray Dog, Norwegian Arms consistently proves to be an effervescent chameleon of a band. And the fact that they’ll be performing 100% all new material this evening is all the more reason to attend. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Bill McThrill
NYC artist on the rise: Lydia Ainsworth plays Rooftop Films on 05.31 + releases debut LP in June
If in the 90s the world realized what women could do with a (distorted) electric guitar in their hands, the 10s will probably be remembered as the decade when femal musicians embraced technology to make some of the best records of the new millennium. Yes, we are generalizing of course, but if you can think of another decade that expressed this many female artists/sound designers/producers (Santigold, St. Vincent, Au Revoir Simone, Julia Easterlin and Tei Shi, to name just a few out of NYC) give us a shout.
Emerging Toronto /Brooklyn artist Lydia Ainsworth belongs to this talented bunch. She’s been cultivating an enviable musical vocabulary, touching on anything from Enya-esque vocal abstractions to orchestral soundtracks rich with lush strings, and even vaguely oriental sounding industrial experiments. But her new track ‘White Shadows’ (streaming) brings her output to a new level by gathering all these elements together, organically, in an actual song. We are looking forward to more tunes like this one in her debut album ‘Right From Real Pt. I’ – out on June 10. While waiting, you can see Lydia Ainsworth live at Rooftop Film Festivals ‘Dark Toons’ night at iconic Brooklyn landmark Industry City near Sunset Park.

Angel Olsen “Lights Out”
Pitchfork released a video last week of Angel Olsen performing "Lights Out" from her 2014 album Burn Your Fire For No Witness. The video is a part of their City of Music Series.
New Bad Doctors LP Available for Streaming
The Bad Doctors have always had their synth-leanings to 80’s new wave. However, on the group’s latest LP Burning City, available via FDH Records, they have fully embraced the more danceable side of the genre, while still maintaining the edginess that had made them local basement favorites. You can stream the record in its entirety below.
Stream: machineheart, “Circles”
Memorial Day ushers in the season of pool parties, sundresses and that unrelenting heat. Which means, it’s time for mixtapes littered with uptempo, lighthearted pop tunes. Machineheart offers our top pick for the summer season with "Circles." The lyrics are full of positive vibes giving you the feeling of that fresh start that comes with the increase in sunshine. The opening guitar riff lets you know right away, this will be one to keep on repeat, and returns between verses as if to remind your ears how much you enjoyed it the first time. "Circles" is the perfect top down, coastal drive kind of tune. Grab your best mates and turn this one up on your next road trip. – Jacqueline Caruso
