There’s an awesome two-band lineup at Galaxy Hut tonight (May 5th) for those interested in seeing some solid gritty garage-rock bands poised to start playing much larger venues in the near future. The Dead Women are preparing their second release (May 30th) which you can preview over on their Bandcamp. A frenetic rhythm section drives gnarly guitars and melodic vocals, propelling the band towards a sound that’s a combination of early Wire and The Smiths. Nice Breeze strips their sound bare of anything but pure high volume, high gain distortion from their amps and shouting phrases. Lo-fi indie-rock and roll at its best. I’m gonna link Nice Breeze’s Transparency for you, ’cause I love the vicious retro guitar sound, but don’t hesitate to check out the other links and come out to this show! –Natan Press
The Coward Flowers to celebrate debut album release at T.T. the Bear’s Place
They’re more than just an adorable name – the Coward Flowers have prepped their debut album, Satisfaction, for release tomorrow, May 6. The album is previewed by the spunky “More Than Cinders,” released last month, and between the classic rock twang of chorus’s riff and the indie rock lean of the verses, the song is a surprisingly cohesive hodgepodge of sounds. The single is accompanied by the gruff B-side “Judgment Day,” proving that the band tackle harder rocking styles as well. Look for Satisfaction tomorrow on Bandcamp, and if you like what you hear, join them at T.T. the Bear’s Place in Cambridge on May 7 to celebrate its release and hear “More Than Cinders” live. – Jake Reed, @jakejreed
New Track: “In The Grass” – Vacationer
With their latest LP Relief appropriately scheduled for release this summer, June 24 (to be exact), via Downtown Records & Create/Control, Vacationer’s new single “In The Grass” is a casually breezy track that makes you longingly daydream for the days of lounging on a beach. It’s simply a reminding that summer is just around bend, but unfortunately, it’s still not soon enough for us.

Fuzz-pop from Brooklyn: Rad Dreams Play Glasslands on 05/14
Brooklyn’s power-fuzz group rad dreams is a testament to the numbing power of a good array of effects pedals. The quartet seems to take its melodic roots in folk, and its tonal roots in Black Sabbath and The Pixies, turning genre on its head, and re-imagining convention. Heavy on the fuzz, and soothing in vocal harmonies, they paint pictures of static beauty against sludgy and hazy backdrops, creating a nuclear comfort for the agitated soul. Their cool, nervous vocals tell you it’s okay to be ill at ease, either with self or the world, or both. Catch them at Glasslands on May 14th with Blood Red Shoes, and Radkey. (Please go see them and take a picture we can use for this post since we can’t find any). – JP Basileo
We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best guitar rock songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Arkansas Elvis Donates Album Proceeds to iRockNashville.com
The Deli Nashville recently caught wind of this stroke of altruism from Arkansas Elvis: the band is donating all Bandcamp album sales for the month of May to indie radio station to iRockNashville.com. This is a veritable group hug of local supporting local that deserves recognition. The hard and heavy rockers released their first album "Yvette" last September, and this is the perfect opportunity to get your mitts on it if you haven’t already. If the idea of supporting a Nasvhille radio station fiercely devoted to indepent music doesn’t move you, maybe this video "Opening" will. -Terra James-Jura

Break-In Fundraiser Show at Underground Arts May 3
When Mat Burke set out to record his new album at the end of the holidays, things took a turn for the worse when a robber broke into his house and stole $10000+ worth of equipment, including several pieces that he borrowed from the studio that he was recording at. Underground Arts were quick to help by offering up their space and staff for him to host a fundraiser, and tonight Burke and several of his friends from the Philly music community will attempt to recoup some of the money that’s needed to replace the stolen items. The multi-talented and vivacious Ali Wadsworth will be performing with her backing band as of late, Satellite Hearts. They are currently having a serious music love affair. Levee Drivers will be providing their patented booze-tinged, rural-boy swagger with a heart of gold for the evening, and Dan Bruskewicz, a.k.a. TJ Kong, minus the Atomic Bomb, will be crooning the audience with Tom Waits songs and music from his latest album KONG. The evening will also feature the Philly return of the Brothers Murphy of Penrose, who recently relocated to Brooklyn. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 9pm, $10 21+ – Bill McThrill

Your Deli dose of weird: Jerry Paper, live at Silent Barn tonight (05.05)
Weird music is good for the soul (at least for ours), in particular when it’s well crafted, so we can’t really pass the opportunity to highlight Jerry Paper, a Brooklyn based musical freak we found out through Ava Luna (a band featured on the cover The Deli’s Winter 2012 issue), and the bands they picked for the latest issue of 1.21 GIGAWATTS, a neat, free Brooklyn based magazine that highlights a lot of good local bands, mostly within garage, indie and psych genres. Back to Jerry though. This guy’s music sounds like Brian Eno’s brain buried under an overdove of mushrooms, which is interesting and paradoxical, since Brian Eno is probably the most coldly rational songwriter in the history of pop music. Tonight (May 5th) Jerry is playing a show at Silent Barn’s paradoxically named room Pleasure Jail (a place where, apparently, you can live if you wish so). It may be worth checking him out.
