From The Deli NYC’s submissions: Threefifty

Posted on:

With charm, sophistication, and epic runs as bold as any Classical chamber ensemble, guitar duo Threefifty have managed to carve out a unique world entirely their own. It can be difficult to think of an instrument that’s been explored as thoroughly as the acoustic guitar, but this group has somehow found new frontiers to open up on their latest record ‘collapses,’ merging minimalism with EDM and bluegress together like they were there all the time. It’s a surprising journey into a secret world, occupied with lush textures and unexpected harmonic exchanges between two kindred spirits. Check out the video for ‘Drive (feat. Cuso Fresh)’ below. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

Guillermo Sexo and Eldridge Rodriguez support Relations in Brooklyn

Posted on:

Hey New Englanders – if you’re in New York City this weekend, you’re in luck. Brooklyn’s Relations will celebrate the release of its latest full-length, Songbirds, with the help of Bostonites Guillermo Sexo and Eldridge Rodriguez. Guillermo Sexo’s latest record, last year’s Dark Spring, ranges from spacey (“Dark Spring”) to fuzzy (“Fall Lens”) and points in between. Expect fan favorites from across the band’s catalog, which now spans nearly nine years since the release of its first EP in 2005.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez (real name Cameron Keiber) will bring his deep voice and tracks from his latest album, you are released, which ranges from bluesy to psychedelic (see: “The Big Windup.”) The project and shows supporting it have kept him busy while his band The Beatings remains on hiatus.

If you’re looking for something to do in the Big Apple, show your support tonight at Shea Stadium in Brooklyn at 8 p.m. If you can’t make it, you can still catch Keiber’s solo set Saturday at 5 p.m. at Pianos in New York City. – Jake Reed

Show Alert: Future Unlimited with Forget Cassettes at The High Watt 4.5.14

Posted on:

Future Unlimited have proven themselves to be vital architects of Nashville’s electronic scene, drawing a great deal of attention last year when Shia Lebeouf seized the chance to direct the music video for their single "Haunted Love." The resulting piece of film was disturbing enough to garner its own attention, but turned on hundreds of viewers to the group’s spooky, dreamy vibe.  The band has found a recent kinship with Nashville notables Forget Cassettes, joining them, along with Friendship Commanders and Patrick Baker, to give you the opportunity to lose yourself in a couple of intense, synth-saturated hours at the High Watt this Saturday, April 5th.  The show kicks off at 9pm, and costs $10. -Terra James-Jura

Psychedelic Party – The Acid Test Will Take Place at SUB/Mission in SF – 4/5

Posted on:

Can you pass the Acid Test? This was the question posed by Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters during their time atop San Francisco’s psychedelic counterculture era of the 1960s. SUB/Mission, a San Francisco music and arts venue, will be hosting an event that poses the same question. On Saturday, April 5th, The Acid Test — a psychedelic music celebration will explode onto the scene.

Through sound, lighting, dancing and overall merriment, the event will look to capture the same euphoric experiences that those hosted by Kesey did. Mad Alchemy will be providing a liquid light performance and there will be several guest DJs, including sets by Joel Gion of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Abel Oleson and Galine MoDemoiselle.

Be sure to make it out to the show and be a part of an underground psychedelic experience that would make the Merry Pranksters proud. –Skyler Warren

Video: Mystic Braves, “Desert Island”

Posted on:

Psychedelia is having a serious resurgence and Mystic Braves are drawing on their west coast upbringing to make their mark in this acid-drenched landscape. Their recently released video for "Desert Island," is the first single from their forthcoming LP of the same name, due out April 29, which also happens to be the second full length release from this young band. While it may appear formulaic at first glance, frontman Julian Ducatenzeiler describes their honest approach, stating, "we simply write sensible pop songs from the heart with psychedelic textures and tones. It just comes natural to us." Anyone who has spent their formative years exploring the landscapes of Southern California can surely relate to its magical influence. Get tripped out with The Mystic Braves every Monday in April for their Residency at The Echo. – Jacqueline Caruso
