Purples recently shared a more somber side than we are used to from the ex-Teeth members in their new music video for the title track to their upcoming album entitled Nancy, due out later this year. You can also stream the song and download it for free HERE. The footage was recorded at Laurel Hill Cemetery and features the band’s long-haired, mustached guitarist Brian Ashby as its tortured protagonist.

Twin Peaks is a part of a garage-pop movement in Chicago that may have peaked in 2013. In July they released the raw and energetic album Sunken on Autumn Tone Records. The album has several great tracks, "Stand In the Sand", "Irene", but my favorite has to be "Fast Eddie".
Top 10 Tracks of 2013: #6
The nationwide story of the Chicago music scene in 2013 was all about hip hop with the explosion of Chance The Rapper, King Louie, Katie Got Bangz, and so on. However, a name that wasn’t mentioned nearly enough was that of Vic Mensa. His mixtape, Innanetape, rivaled Acid Rap but it is Chance and not Vic working with the likes of Justin Bieber to close out the year. "Orange Juice" is undeniably one of the best tracks of 2013.

Pink Frost released Sundowning back in September and the beer-guzzling video for "Ruins" was one of the most disturbing and entertaining videos of the year.
New Year, New Hotel War Video
Local trio Hotel War kicked off 2014 with a brand spanking new video for their single, “Casino.” The fact that there are no casinos in Tennessee notwithstanding, it’s an entertaining video that should appeal to fans of 70’s garage rock, gambling, and gorgeous redheads alike (that should cover everyone, right?) The single begs for a full length, which is slated to be released early this year. Cruise over to their newly redesigned website to buy the track and keep abreast of their shenanigans. –Terra James-Jura

Open Submissions Featured Artist #3 – The Vliets
The Vliets have graced the Open Submission Featured Artist list 2 years in a row! That’s quite a feat, especially in Austin, a city that we all know is so saturated with musical talent. Their laid-back electro rock brings back memories of carefree adolescence, glossing over the hardships and holding onto the life raft of nostalgia. Check out their sound and don’t forget to vote for your favorite band in the final stage of our Year End Poll! -Written by Charise Sowells
Chillingsworth celebrates birth of “It’s a Boy” EP
Connecticut-based Chillingsworth’s name lends a hint to what it sounds like: on “It’s a Boy,” released on December 28, the band sounds, for lack of a better term, chill. Opening track “Vacillate” leans towards John Frusciante’s soft, textural guitar work on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “By the Way,” with a relaxed tempo providing the backdrop for featured rapper Billy Rodriguez-Lopez. Synth player and saxophonist Heydar Ensha adds an important element that helps the band stand apart from the pack of New England indie bands. If you don’t believe me, check out the sax riff that commands all attention its way on “Bruno Mars.” The “It’s a Boy” EP is available to download on Bandcamp now – Jake Reed
