Below is a new music video for the song "To London or the Lake" from Night Sins, the local gothic post-punk project fronted by Kyle Kimball. The video was inspired by the 1970 British film The Deep End. The single is the title track off Night SIns’ forthcoming LP, which will be available next month via AVANT! Records.
Cold Blood Club – Making Brooklyn Dance Again
Dance music is making a big comeback in Brooklyn, prompting some of us to wonder whether we listen to too much white boy indie rock and not enough music that is more a) optimistic and b) representative of women and minorities. Indeed, in ‘White Boyz,’ Cold Blood Club’s lead singer Kendra Jones shouts "I need a nice white boy," over borderline schizophrenic beats. It’s an ecstatic track that highlights how much fun a warehouse show can be instead of another white boy singing about his suburban upbringing. Check out the track below, and see them when they play tonight at The Bell House at 8pm with The Woes and Late Cambrian.
Huckleberry Binge Brings The Storm On “Tornado”
On its latest EP, “Tornado,” Huckleberry Binge brings fuzzed-out chords and a blues twang to the folk styling it began with when it was just a duo.
Now a quartet, the Hampshire College band has become a key part of the music scene amongst the five colleges in and around Amherst, MA – and as proof of that, they even got fellow Hampshirite and Young Tricksters bassist Jesse French to drum on all five of the songs on “Tornado.” Fourth track “Sleep Through the Storm” features the set’s most pained vocals and welcomed accordion accompaniment from Megan Miller.
Check Huckleberry Binge out alongside Young Tricksters at Bard College on November 23
Churchyard Demo Release
I haven’t had the chance to see Churchyard yet but have heard good things; so I was excited to finally see some songs posted. The pop-driven four track demo is an eclectic mix of sounds, ranging from the happy-go-lucky “Pumpin’ Gas in the Rain” to the eerie, surf-rock “Desert.” As diverse as this demo is, Churchyard quickly establishes their own identity with their glossy harmonies and polished vocals, but if it wasn’t for the fluid, distinct singing, I’m not sure that I could pick these songs out from other “diet-punk” acts around town. -Michael Perry
Tsons of Tsunami Tear it up with Fearless Riders of the Holy Curl
Boston-based surf rockers Tsons of Tsunami certainly know what it takes to craft catchy tunes. Their latest release, titled Fearless Riders of the Holy Curl, is full of great 60s-esque guitar licks and well-timed drum fills. In fact, listening to this album made me want to go to the beach, crack open a beer and chill out for the next two weeks. These guys are definitely worth a listen, so head over to thier bandcamp page and let me know what you think.

Souvenir Driver at Dante’s 11.22
Souvenir Driver plays Dante’s this Saturday, let’s take a minute and explore exactly why this is going to be a hell of a show. You may recognize these boys from projects like Soft Paws, Happy Prescriptions and Hawkeye, but Souvenir Driver has taken most of their efforts as of late, which is evident. The band identifies as post punk which certainly rings true in their first LP, Lifts the Curse. Lead singer, Nate Wey says the record was made in efforts “to lift our sadness, our obstacles, our darkness, in order to come to a place of bliss and understanding.” Upon listening, you realize that this album is a process – a cathartic journey from tumbles down jagged sonic valleys of tracks like “Futures” and “Philosophy” to the slow crystalline ascension of “Daylight is a Movie”. In preparation for their new LP, Living Water (self-released in April) the band has been leaking singles to their bandcamp page. “Kiss You Close” and “Feel the Flood” combine heavy bass with echo-heavy kick-snare and vocals like a sedated Joe Strummer to produce a slick, sinister new wave sound. In “Feel the Flood” Nate screams, “everybody hear the sound of your own blood.” This statement is beautifully indicative of a live set with these boys, producing a sound just as physical and visceral as the ringing in your ears afterwards. – Ted Jamison

Brooklyn’s Fool’s Gold, the label that brought you Danny Brown, Kid Kudi, and Duck Sauce, is celebrating its 6th Birthday. Lemme Adams Hungry Skinny Fox and the Law Electric Shepherd at Hemlock Tavern TONIGHT
Hemlock Tavern, a small bar that features great music acts, will be hosting a night of some bands bringing stylistic twists to the well-known rock and roll genre. Lemme Adams, who just released a new album, “Gorilla Back” this August, will be bringing some experimental psychedelic rock to the bill, bringing a trumpet and trombone twist to an otherwise eclectic daze sound. Hungry Skinny takes the classic blues rock sound and adds a dirty twist to it. Fox and the Law, coming from Seattle, bring a garage rock sound to the line-up, while mixing very unorthodox, but enchanting, vocals to the mix. Electric Shepherd, who just released their new single, “Glass Devil Blues,” use classic psychedelic riffs and breakdowns, a funky rhythm section, and a large amount of heavy drive to create their heavy psychedelic rock sound.
It’ll be a good night to catch some good ol’ rock n’ roll! Be sure to head on out! –Victor Casillas Valle

Deli readers in bands,
Every year, The Deli’s Year End Polls highlight hundreds of the best emerging artists in the 11 (soon 12) US scenes we cover – and reward them with prizes from our sponsors.
As you may know, the winner of the NYC poll will grace the cover of the spring issue of The Deli – and will be rewarded with other prizes.

The end of the 2013 is quickly approaching and we are ready to go through the painstaking 2 month process involved in selecting the artists and processing the various votes. We are already asking our local jurors (mostly venue promoters, bloggers, record store and radio personnel) to cast their vote for their favorite local emerging artists. But of course, our polls are open to all bands who want to be considered: free submissions are open from now until December 9th HERE. All these submissions will be grouped by genre and filtered by The Deli’s local editors and some Deli writers.
