Beat Bear and DJ Skinny B at Main Street Live 11.6

Posted on:

Up-and-coming local DJs hailing from the depths of Middle Tennessee are coming together to provide support for headliners (and Murfreesboro’s own) Protohype and world-renowned beat master Datsik. Local support will come from DJ Skinny B who has been crushing the EDM scene throughout MTSU since 2010 and Beat Bear from Knoxville who prides himself on keeping the scene turnt up. Skinny B and Beat Bear will also be given some local love by Lusio and many more bass-thumping beat-mixing masterminds.

This much anticipated even will be taking place at Murfreesboro’s premier venue, Main Street Live, located at 527 W. Main St in Murfreesboro, TN, 37130. The venue will be loaded with Datsik’s state of the art PK sound system as well as his Vortex Lumen visuals on stage! This is not an event you want to miss! Advanced GA and VIP tickets including balcony access and a private bar are still available and there will be a limited amount of tickets reserved for the door!

Check out some beats from our very own Skinny B and Beat Bear below. -Maria Hartfield

Lovelife host November residency at Bootleg Bar

Posted on:

UK outfit Lovelife write bubbly melodies that are usually locked into a linear groove – their smash single "Dying to Start Again" is a perfect example of this, which employs a steel drum-sounding synth sample that accentuates its sharp chorus. Now established in our shores, the foursome are illustrating their rising status with a month-long risidency at the Bootleg Theater. But Lovelife aren’t settling on their singles just yet – they recently released an EP, Stateless, and they’re currently hard at work on their first full-length, which is set for release sometime in 2014.

Lonely Biscuits “Things Sure Have Changed”

Posted on:

Local heroes The Lonely Biscuits are quickly becoming the center of attention from Nashville to gaining national exposure when winning the title of mtvU’s College Band of the Year. Having recently released a sick new EP entitled "Things Sure Have Changed," the Biscuits are moving quickly in the direction towards stardom.

"Things Sure Have Changed" is a brilliant work that features the boy’s chill persona laced with a cool and inspiring funk rhythm. Not many artists can twist an album to contain hints of hip hop, reggae, funk, blues and even a little rap all into one album which leaves fans begging for more. With attractive beats and inspiring lyrics, The Lonely Biscuits made a splash with their newly released EP. The foursome is surely not far from hitting rock star status. NYC Album of the Month: Blanche Blanche Blanche – “Breaking Mirrors”

Posted on:

Musical instability in rock music is not appreciated by all, but if you caught that bug – say – from Syd Barret’s solo records, or from The Pixies (like we did) it’s then very very hard not to embrace it. In their bizarre and (in most cases) gently noisy new album "Breaking Mirrors," Brooklyn duo/quartet Blanche Blanche Blanche cultivates music instability – together with a few other sonic ideas, like a certain angularity that has nothing to do with squares and rectangles, but rather with weirdly shaped polygons. The songs in "Breaking Mirrors" are actually very poppy, they feature simple melodies and structures, but (like all our favorite records) they sound nothing like pop. Sarah Smith’s dead pan vocals and ambivalent lirycs double the feeling of estrangedness, and numb alienation created by arrangements that sound like geometry lessons disturbed by radio interferences. Somewhat reminiscent of Suicide and early Wire, but playing their electric instruments with an even more mechanical approach through bit crunching effects and fidelity disintegrating devices, Blanche Blanche Blanche pull off an imaginative hybrid of lo-fi, math rock, goth, noise rock and industrial, that shies away from all current trends, and sounds as fresh and challenging as it sounds, well… depressing. Which is something that’s actually making us quite happy right now!

Silks Debut LP Release Party @ Fete Music 11/29

Posted on:

Hailing from Rhode Island, vocalist Tyler-James Kelly’s gruff pipes make the Silks’ debut LP, “Last American Band,” play like an Eddie Vedder side project focused on recapturing a traditional Americana sound. If you are skeptical, look no further than the American flag that adorns the cover of the disc. As vocalist, guitarist and a mean harmonica player – make sure to check out “Try all you want” – Kelly is the star of the show, but the band wouldn’t be a complete set without drummer Matthew Donnelly and bassist Jonas Parmelee, who create a perfect backdrop for the blues chords and skillful guitar solos that abound on “Last American Band.” Catch the album’s release party at Fete Music in Providence on November 29 – Jake Reed

New Tracks: “Gemini Moon” & “Non-Monogamy Nightmare” – Thin Lips

Posted on:

We’ve shared many great times with Dangerous Ponies over the years so obviously their rather sudden break-up and the cancellation of their what-was-meant-to-be final performance at The Barbary was definitely a downer. Well, the good news is that DP’s Chrissy Tashjian and Kyle Pulley have a new project with Tigers Jaw drummer Pat Brier called Thin Lips. Here are their debut tracks, "Gemini Moon" and "Non-Monogamy Nightmare," and you’ll notice a more punk-ish angst energy surging through these latest offerings, but of course, the hooks are there, pulling you in to get some of those Lips. Enjoy!
