Danny James at The Great American Music Hall – 11/14
Check out electric soul wizard Danny James with his Once and Future Band at The Great American Music Hall this Thursday. The show is presented by Burger Records, who will make available two hundred vinyl copies of James’s new album PEAR for presale at the venue.
A former member of “Oakland’s only rock and roll band” The Cuts, James has returned to the local scene with a cosmic glam rock LP that sounds like it was beamed in from 1974 by way of the 5th dimension. Mixing elements of soul, garage, glam and psych pop, the music is decidedly retro while remaining surprisingly fresh and fun to listen to. Opening the night are SF groups Melted Toys and Cold Beat, who bring their own brand of atmospheric psychedelia to the party. So stop by the Great American Thursday to hear some new local music!- Ethan Varian

Brick and Mortar Music Hall will be hosting a show in celebration of Tricycle Records most recent compilation, Friends of Tricycle Records vol. III TONIGHT. The Hot Toddies are an all female band that combines the styles of sunshine pop vocals and indie rock distorted riffs into one great package of addictive sounds. The Tambo Rays bring a fresh twist to the cliché indie genre, bringing a mixture of female and male vocals, a tasteful amount of vocal delay, and a truly danceable sound. Kill Moi brings some fun instruments to the night, including an amazingly incorporated horn section, as well as a taste of indie alternative rock to the night. Odd Owl brings a bigger dance feel tonight, taking on a lighter indie sound but with a contagious rhythm. Lastly, booty house duo BLAUS will be filling in the night with a DJ set of their newest tunes from their album “Black + White”.

Daytona celebrates debut release at Shea Stadium on 11.16
Feel like taking a walk outside before the frigid cold keeps you inside? Put on Daytona‘s new single Honey and embrace the winds of change. The sing-a-long style lyrics throughout the new single invite the listener to do just that, repeating "It’s getting cold, and the leaves they are nearly gone". Enticing the listener to step outside, before it’s too late. It sounds like the trio originally from Chapel Hill, NC are already feeling the Brookyln chill in the air. Layered guitar work and these repeated phrases allow a cerebral escape from the fact that we are heading into the winter months. Calming and inviting, ‘Honey’ still seems like a warning that none of this was meant to last, and to enjoy it all while you can. – Joe Fish
So, before it gets too cold out, see DAYTONA release their self titled debut record at Shea Stadium on Saturday, November 16th, with other local bands we oftend covered here: Tony Castles, Darlings, and Candide.

Poor Remy releases EP ‘Bitters’ at Rockwood tonight (11.13)
Poor Remy is an army beating a path to your ears. The Queens based folk group announces itself with so much pomp and fanfare, you’ll mistake banjos for bayonets in our fave track ‘Wrecking Ball’ (streaming). There’s no mistaking the aggressive shouts and climbing choral chants of this band with any other folk three-piece around NYC, and that’s why they stand out from their milquetoast string band peers.
This evening the group is celebrating the release of their sophomore EP ‘Bitters’ at Rockwood Music Hall. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

New Music Video: “Tiny Raindrop” – Balance and Composure
Doylestown’s Balance and Composure premiered a new dream concept music video for their track "Tiny Raindrop," earlier this morning via Rolling Stone. The song is off their new album The Things We Think We’re Missing (No Sleep). The video was directed by their good friend Alex Henery, and was shot throughout Bucks County and parts of Philly. The band recently toured with Coheed and Cambria, and is schedule to do a Canadian tour in January.
An Interview with Thelma and the Sleaze
Thelma and the Sleaze caught me off guard the first time I saw them; I just wasn’t prepared for the blaze of bare skin and brazen intensity that the band delivered. But it needed to happen; I didn’t realize it at the time, but my brain wanted to be wallered by those three writhing banshees. I left the show with the same stupid satisfaction I get from breathing gasoline fumes at Mapco, maybe a tick tougher for surviving the onslaught.
The band is preparing for a double header this Friday, 11/15, to mark the release of their double EP box set. They are first performing in Mufreesboro at Mayday Brewery at 7, and then in Nashville at the Stone Fox at 9. More details are available here. This video for "Too Tough" is a close approximation of what to expect. Being the Southern belles they are, the band obliged me by answering a few interview questions. -Terra James-Jura
