Azar Swan releases debut album ‘Dance Before the War’

Posted on:

Like some kind of darker and electro version of Kate Bush, Brooklyn duo Azar Swan explores uncharted territories without ever relinquishing melody. A wide scope of influences – ranging from industrial percussions to oriental atmospheres – pervades the band’s debut album "Dance Before the War," out now on Handmade Birds Records. Check out opening track ‘Lusty’ Below, or stream the entire record on Soundcloud.

NYC bands on the rise: Crazy Pills play Death By Audio on 11.18

Posted on:

If anyone’s looking for someone to inherit the trash rock mantle post-Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Strokes, look no further than Crazy Pills. A three-piece with energy to spare, and grit to keep songs like ‘There Are Dangers’ off debut LP ‘Restless’ careening slightly off the rails before reaching up to the rafters. In no small part thanks to singer Amanda B.’s combination of punk snarl and high-pitched howl. Hear album opener "Nothing But Love" streaming below. Catch them when they play Death By Audio on Monday, Nov 18th. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

Delco Pacers Record Release Show at MilkBoy Philly Nov. 14

Posted on:
With the release of their full-length debut Stereo Streets slated for November 19, Delco Pacers headline a record release event tonight at Milkboy Philly. The trio delivers songs that have a snowball effect: Momentum gathering from Jonathan Pitts earnest vocal tone spinning memorable mind-etching lyrics. The instrumentation has a free-flowing yet purposeful movement. At times, that movement has a casual rolling autumnal acoustic feel, and at others, it ramps up pushing the intensity; the percussion pops in a punchy manner, and the bass quickens its thumps building toward a crescendo that correlates with the lyrical context. This blend of relatable story-driven songwriting with an enthusiastic pop-rock sensibility makes Delco Pacers a band that is easy/natural to gravitate toward. They will be joined on the bill by the folk-rock Americana of Morning River Band, while the “honest” indie folk-rock of The Naked Sun opens the night. Milkboy Philly 1100 Chestnut St., 8pm, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Wild Ones Release Video for “From Nothing”

Posted on:

Wild Ones have released a brand new music video for “From Nothing” off of their debut LP, Keep It Safe. Filmed in a ghost town in eastern Oregon, the location and premise are enticing. What starts as a simple video to accompany addictive synth leads and endearing vocals slowly turns into something more concerning and unexpected. Enjoy the video below and be sure to catch Wild Ones at the Crystal Ballroom on November 29th with Typhoon. Don’t spend too much time worrying about the video’s cliffhanging conclusion, the band has promised to release alternate endings in the near future. – Benjamin Toledo

New Music Video: “Dust & Days” – Rosu Lup

Posted on:

Below is a contemplative new music video from Rosu Lup for the track "Dust & Days" that makes us long for the time when the only limits in our lives were found in our imagination. Director Francesco Gambino captures those feelings so well with the band’s standout song from the EP Currents. The group will be taking the stage of MilkBoy Philly next Thursday when they open for Yarn. Enjoy! (Photo by Doug Seymour)

NYC bands you shouldn’t forget about: White Hills

Posted on:

From short videos that would freak out the most sunshiny and well meaning of acid trips, to several records from a near decade of undistilled noise fantasies, White Hills brings their blend of psych and stoner rock to a world that might not yet be ready. So you may want to take a tour around the block first, and listen to latest record ‘So You Are… So You’ll Be’ to get an idea of how exactly this new cosmic religion functions. The ritual chants and sonic booms of track ‘In Your Room’ should be all you need to get you started. Listen below. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

Video: White Sea “They Don’t Know” (NSFW)

Posted on:

White Sea, the moniker for singer-songwriter Morgan Kibby, fuses electronic soundscapes with a trance-inducing mood that echoes closely to the triumphant sounds of new age. Though this may be first first effort as a solo artist, she’s a veteran working musician – some of her other projects include singing as front woman of The Romanovs and, just until recently, touring with accomplished French electronic band M83. The grand gestures of single "They Don’t Know" are closely linked to M83’s epic soundscapes, which gradually soars into a thrilling crescendo fit for an overhead shot of towering mountains and crystal clear waterfalls. The tastefully bare swimmers in the music video contort with graceful elegance, performing water acrobatics in sync with the song’s sweeping pure moods.

From The Deli NYC’s submissions: Star Rover

Posted on:

Star Rover is what might happen if John Fahey got married, then divorced to Robert Pollard from GBV. The band has an on-again, off-again relationship with Folk and weird Americana that could only come from a well-traveled group now finding themselves recording an album in Bushwick. Every bit the jam band in tracks like album opener ‘Western Winds Bitter Christians’ (streaming), the album of the same name also produces Sunday evening songs like "We Would Be Building" that’ll find you rocking on the front porch of that ranch house you’ve always imagined yourself in.

At least until things start to get hazy and noisy again. This is a journey from one end of America’s sonic spectrum to the other, and this (mostly) instrumental guitar/drums duo are there to make sure you enjoy the ride with them. Check it out below, and see them when they get back from their east coast tour soon. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
