Alt-Country unit Girls Guns and Glory sing sentimental tunes about that timeless subject central to country music: Heartbreak. You wouldn’t need to understand a word to hear that. Lead Singer and guitarist Ward Henry has a passionate and vulnerable voice, singing more in the style of classic country singer Hank Williams than Henry’s contemporaries. Fittingly, they even recently played a whole set in September of Hank Williams tunes. These masterful musicians respect the history of their genre, and focus on delivering honest songs that both rock and pluck those heartstrings. Anyone worried that all the great psych bands have come and gone, need not fear. Twin Wave has come from above to make sure we’re all still having cozy, weird dreams filled with washy guitars, spacey synths, and immersive vocals.
Their popular track ‘Relapse’ (streaming) beats out a hasty trip-hop groove, and still manages to stay meditative and silky smooth at its center. Check it out below and see the band when they play at The Deli’s Electro Stage at The Delancey, upstairs, on Tuesday, October 15th. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
NYC based Black River Quartet has built up a reputation for intense and unpredictable live shows, veering between punk, noise, blues and then haunting surf. The band recently completed a live session on Brooklyn based independent radio station, The Indie Darkroom, prompting the show’s host to describe them as "…an absolute brute force of raw and deliberate musical expression…" Sounds intriguing indeed. – (as posted in The Deli’s Open Blog – post your band’s entries, videos, and Mp3s here). If you’ve ever wondered what it might sound like to listen to the biggest selling pop music from another planet, you’d do well to check out nytyly, an artist who truly has her own way of crafting extremely catchy electronic pop tunes. For her music, the Brooklynite utilizes not just her own electronic sets, but sometimes her own language as well. In latest track ‘harmony day,’ nytyly’ extends synth love to Jewish mysticism, creating a weird masterpiece I have yet to hear in any church. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

Here’s an abstract new music video from Pattern is Movement for their panty-dropping cover of D’Angelo’s "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," which premiered yesterday at Stereogum. The track is the B-side to their new 12" single for "Suckling," off the duo’s long-awaited forthcoming album scheduled for release in 2014 via Hometapes. They’ll be headlining for the first time in a while on Thursday, October 24 at Union Transfer with support from The Spinto Band, Norwegian Arms, Worshyper and the WYLDSTYLE DJs.
Levi Weaver touts himself as a wanderer, and wonderer. His songs set him apart from the sea of songwriters out there without much trouble: they’re rich with a symphony of instruments and play out like a movie viewed from the good seats. He’s cut a swath from Texas to the UK, and has settled in East Nashville to perform his compositions and move closer still to standing alongside other offbeat, impressive showmen like Rufus Wainwright and M. Ward. He is about a month away from releasing his crowd-funded full-length entitled “Your Ghost Keeps Finding Me.” Currently the pledges for that project have exceeded their goal, and a portion of the surplus is going to Porter’s Call, a charity supporting musicians and their families. He opens for Kishi Bashi and Fancy Colors this Tuesday at Exit/Inn. -Terra James-Jura
