With modest beginnings as a DIY YouTube recording teen, New Jersey’s Mree’s songs and videos made her an (almost) instant internet success story. Her production and pop sensibilities have the potential to expand her audience far beyond the Folk scene. Her new album "Winterwell," released in August, reveals beautifully mixed and thought-out soundscape to accompany every one of her songs. – Links: Paul Jordan Talbot interview with Mree.
Danny Trashville Releases “The Great Unknown”
Danny Trashville might be Matt Freeman stepping away from Rancid and ditching his boots and braces to perform his secret cache of folk songs incognito. “The Great Unknown” is the title of his newest album, released just this past Saturday. Trashville’s compositions could easily read as punk rock; they cover similar subject matter (heartbreak, travel, brawls and pawn shops) and his coarse voice sounds abraded by a rough life, and maybe one too many basement shows. The official launch party took place in Shawnee, OK, but Danny Trashville is performing at Kimbro’s Café this Monday evening for all those that couldn’t make it. –Terra James-Jura

The Phenomenauts The Kegels and Fake Your Own Death at Rickshaw Stop TONIGHT
Rickshaw Stop will be hosting a night of bay area pop punk TONIGHT! The Phenomenauts will be headlining the night with their space-centric and playful punk sounds, tall TUK shoes, and eccentric stage show. The Kegels take on a reminiscent 90s punk sound that sonically resembles the likes of bands such as NOFX, with melodic dual guitar solos and “oooh oooh” choruses. Fake Your Own Death changes up the night, with new wave-esque vocals. Their sound, with is more contemporary alternative, basic, clean and simple – with a mild tempered melody and rhythm section, and balanced vocals. From the 90s punk blasts from the past to the adult rock styling of Fake Your Own Death, the night is a nice stray away from the clichés of independent music today. This show will be an interesting one that you won’t want to miss. – Victor Casillas Valle

From The Deli NYC’s submissions: Glass Elephant
A band laid-back and emotional at the same time, Glass Elephant aims to put these contradictions to rest on their strong debut ‘Atlantic.’ Filled with soft crooning rock that gets lost at sea amidst reverb-drenched guitars, Russ Flynn’s slightly country-tinged baritone, and a couple lullaby woodwinds, the record is a good start to what could be an exciting addition to our borough’s beach-themed psych rock set.
The Brooklyn band is announcing new shows soon (but spent the summer in the studio in a seaside home out on Long Island to record a new EP). Check out ‘Breakwater’ below in the meantime. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
