Night Panther premiered a new track called "Delta" yesterday over at Yours Truly. It’s a glorious sounding little sex-pop ditty, and will be available on 7" via blogger-backed indie label Small Plates Records, who will also be releasing their full-length album. You can catch them next in Philly on Thursday, August 15 at Philadelphia’s Magic Garden on a stacked bill that will include Strand of Oaks, Norwegian Arms and Circadian Rhythms.
NYC Electro acts on the rise: Party Supplies releases “Tough Love” LP on 08.27
Brooklyn based producer Justin Nealis (mostly known as Party Supplies) is about to release a debut album with multi instrumentalist Sean Mahon under that same moniker entitled "Tough Love." The preview single "Beautiful Girl" (streaming) is a rather smooth and sparse dance-pop operation. What we are very impressed with is actually this rehearsal video the band posted on YouTube a few months ago. We love the multi-chord arpeggiator, the vocal sample choice, the organization of the layers, the overall syncopation and flawless performance. It all sounds like a WAAAAY cooler version of Moby – huge potential!
We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best Electronic songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!
New Video by Frankie Rose – album release in the fall
Frankie Rose is not really "emerging" anymore but she’s still regarded as an example to follow by many struggling artists in the Brooklyn DIY scene. Check out the new single "Sorrow" below from the upcoming album "Herein Out" to be released on September 24.
Vinyl Thief Releases Single “Smooth”
Today is the official release of Vinyl Thief’s single, “Smooth.” It is off the electro-pop band’s first full length album, “Fathom,” scheduled for a fall 2013 release. The project was funded via Kickstarter by fans worked into at lather by the band’s 2012 EP, “Rebel Hill” (And for good reason; listen to the namesake and admire how gloriously schizophrenic that song manages to be.) “Smooth” is a swell of ethereal synth and drum tracks punctuated by unexpected structure changes. Vinyl Thief is bringing their ecstatic energy and multiple keyboards to 3rd and Lindsey August 16th, with Joy of Painting and Machines are People Too. –Terra James-Jura

Photo Recap: 2nd Street Festival 2013
You really couldn’t ask for much better weather this past Sunday for 2nd Street Festival. There were plenty of music lovers, drinkers, foodies, children and pets roaming the streets of Northern Liberties. While crowds for some of the music sets were a bit thin in comparison to past years (as we had expected), we still had another great time at the fest with friends and acts like Vacationer, West Philadelphia Orchestra, On the Water and many others keeping all thoroughly entertained. You can check out some of our photos of things that we came across while enjoying the day HERE. (Photo by Rachel Barrish)
Shun Ng Featured in The Improper Bostonian
Former Berklee College of Music student and current local killin’ it musician Shun Ng was recently featured as one of the ten Improper Bostonian local artists to watch, and stands out as one of the most interesting figures in the community. An acoustic guitarist by trade, Chicago-born Ng has embraced and conquered the New England scene with his acoustic flare and smooth vocals, most recently catching the attention of local publications with new track "Get On With It". Only in his early twenties, Ng studied and started his career in Singapore before moving to Boston, and has recently caught the attention of legendary producer (and daddy to Parks and Rec’s Rashida) Quincy Jones. He can pluck the hell out of a Michael Jackson cover and write a hell of an original, and has also come into his own as a solo singer-songwriter, and his 2012 release "Funky Thumb Stuff" was well-received in New England.
Though he’s still relatively new to the scene, it seems very nearly a promise that Shun Ng will become a staple in the community and an influence on the up-and-comers in the neighborhood. He’s got the natural gift and cross-cultural influence to make something truly unique, and is already well on his way.
Interview with Tarfu: DC Deli’s Band of the Month (August)
The DC based alternative foursome Tarfu have been a busy bunch lately, having just gone back into the studio to lay down some tracks after recently putting "Three Socks" out on iTunes. With more gigs lined up this month, it’s no wonder they caught the ears of Deli readers and voted them Band of the Month. We got a hold of Geoff Simons (lead vocals/guitar,) Tony McNeil (lead guitar/vocals,) David Morton (bass/keys,) and Jonny Brooks (drums/percussion) to find out more. Here they talk about building the scene, K-rock, and their most memorable performance yet. Onto the interview…
Catch Tarfu live next at The Dunes on Aug. 20.
From the NYC Open Blog: Lazer Cake
The indie-pop band Lazer Cake was formed in Brooklyn, NY during the winter of 2011 by Robby Sinclair. While paying homage to the groundwork of great rock n’ roll songwriting (a la The Cars, Tom Petty), Lazer Cake is blazing a trail of their own with up-tempo pop tunes full of exuberant hooks and melodic twists. Fans of Phoenix and The Shins will appreciate singer/drummer Robby Sinclair’s vocals as they cut through a canvas made of synths (Alan Markley) and broad-stroke guitars. Grant Zubritzky (bass) sets it all in motion. Lazer Cake released its second EP "Welcome to the Bitter Dawn" in 2012 and is currently back in the studio working on new music. You can see them live at Pianos 9/27 and Rockwood Stage 2. – (as posted in The Deli’s Open Blog – post your band’s entries, videos, and Mp3s here). The Deli’s NYC Open Blog is powered by The Music Building.

Imaginary People announce debut EP + Play Pianos and Mercury
NYC’s Imaginary People are a new project from veteran songwriter Dylan Von Wagner that blends his trembling, soul infused vocals (reminiscent of Roy Orbison) with the immediacy of rock’n’roll – or at least this is how the preview single "Fresh On" from the upcoming self titled EP sounds.
Unless they are REALLY imaginary, you’ll hav more than one opportunity to see these guys live since they’ll be celebrating their EP release with two shows in a week at venues two blocks from each other: Pianos on 08.26 and The Mercury Lounge on 09.03.
Ken Camden “Space Mirror”
