Congratulations to our TWO Artist of the Month winners!

Posted on:

Congratulations to Bashly and Sol Cat for being our two winners of The Deli Nashville’s Artist(s) of the month poll. Yes, both bands had voters passionate enough to split the results. Rather than have the bands duke it out in a battle royale on the train tracks behind Cannery Row, we decided to declare two victors for the month of August.

So say you’re not the voting type and this is the first time you’ve heard of Bashly? Head over here https://noisetrade.com/bashlymusic/not-alone to download their free EP “Not Alone” and listen to the dream-pop-slash-soul that had fans clamoring to vote. Then go catch them at Belmont’s Battle of the Bands on McWhorter Lawn this Friday, August 23rd, or wait until August 30th for their show at Rocketown (if your college days are long over.)

Voted for Sol Cat and yet do not possess their album? Visit http://solcat.bandcamp.com/album/sol-cat and put $9 of your beer money towards their self-titled full length. Sol Cat has been blowing minds and grooving the Nashville scene since 2012, so it is high time they were added into your rotation. Keep up with their latest news and shows here: https://www.facebook.com/solcatband

Thanks to all that voted, and to all the nominated artists. If this happens again, there will be a ‘sudden death’ protocol.  Stay tuned for a new poll coming soon!          –Terra James-Jura

Lily & The Parlour Tricks releases new single “Belle Gunness”

Posted on:

Starting a band is one of the easiest things in the world – but making it work, keeping at it, and forging material that’s consistently good is gargantuan challenge. This is why a track like Lily & The Parlour Trick‘s "Belle Gunness" (streaming below) should be cause for celebration. We’ve been following Lily’s musical adventures for quite some time – the band actually released an EP at one of our 2011 CMJ shows – and this tense, stomping, electric gospel definitely takes things to the next level through a new found sonic boldness. Wow, at this very moment the thought of Lily & the Parlour Tricks becoming some kind of female version of Nick Cave $ The Bad Seeds – or a darker version of Lucius –  is blowing our minds! And congrats to the band for getting this song placed in a BMW commercial!

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best Alt Rock songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Northern Currents Release New Album, “Raven and the Magic Pill”

Posted on:

The alt-country stylings of Northern Currents possess a genuine, cathartic quality that is displayed clearly by their latest release, Raven and the Magic Pill. Raspy vocals move between twangy guitars, distorted riffs, and racing rhythms that punctuate the transparent emotion contained within each dynamic composition. The lyricism is strong throughout, particularly on the title track. The descriptive language captures a tone that is as candid as it is poetic. The energetic closer, "Minnesota," is another highlight. Its anthemic chorus is reminiscent of something you’d sing without inhibition while raising a glass with close friends. You can listen to Raven and the Magic Pill in its entirety on Northern Currents’ bandcamp page, be sure to keep an eye on their facebook page for upcoming performances as well. – Benjamin Toledo

New Track: “Breathe” – Chiddy Bang

Posted on:

Chiddy Bang has returned with a laidback new single called "Breathe" that feels like it was made to take a few hits to the head and enjoy the last days of summer. Though we reported earlier this summer that Xaphoon Jones will be concentrating on production and no longer be performing live, Chiddy will still be hitting the stage on Friday, October 11 at the Electric Factory opening for Timeflies. However, this latest track was produced by Yuri Beat$.

Free Download: “Dreaming #26” – The Lawsuits

Posted on:

The Lawsuits premiered a new song earlier this morning called "Dreaming #26," which you can download for free via Rolling Stone. "’Dreaming #26′ focuses on an artist dealing with their love of creation, as well as their love for another being… There never feels like enough time to satisfy both." As soon as we heard the track earlier this summer, we instantly knew that it was a standout off their forthcoming album Cool Cool Cool due out October 1. The LP was produced and mixed by Bill Moriarty, and the band will be celebrating its release on Friday, October 18 at Johnny Brenda’s.

Aly Tadros plays Joe’s Pub on 08.21

Posted on:

One of the better traveled artists to live and play in Brooklyn, Aly Tadros has toured throughout Europe, North America and Egypt extensively over the past four years, with her ukelele and steel string in hand. The folk artist has earned comparisons to the likes of Norah Jones for her wistful and breathy voice, but her wanderlust spirit conveys traditions far removed from what you’ll usually find in a singer-songwriter’s record.

Her sophomore LP ‘The Fits‘ is her widest statement yet. From the largess of opener ‘Silence and The Truth,’ to the churning ‘Not a Drop,’ she explores an intersection of classical and acoustic guitar shapes, wrapped under an intimate and honest lyricism. Most recently, she sings the bittersweet ballad ‘Whim’ alongside fellow folkie Ben Balmer. Spanning two countries, the song’s nomadic recording process evokes the personality of an artist never content to stay in one place for too long. Check the video out here and see her when she plays Joe’s Pub this Wednesday, August 21st. – Mike Levine @Goldnuggets).

Advance Base @ Hungry Brain

Posted on:

Owen Ashworth (aka Advance Base) continues to amaze with his new EP The World Is In A Bad Fix Everywhere. The ep is a collection of covers of the early 20th century gospel music of Washington Phillips. A 7" was released by Orindal Records back in June, but an expanded CD edition is coming on Oct. 1st via Caldo Verde Records.

The collection shows how versatile Owen is when compared to his work as Casiotone For The Painfully Alone or his other work as Advance Base. For example, he recently did production for a track with Hannibal Buress ("Honda Civic") for the mixtape Charcuteries and Champagne Vol. 1 by Tony Trimm.

You can catch Advance Base at one of three exclusive solo electric piano show at Hungry Brain (2319 W Belmont Ave) on Sept. 9th.
