Into It. Over It. New Album

Posted on:

Evan Weiss (aka Into It. Over It.) announced this week that his new album, Intersections, will be released by Triple Crown Records in Sept. 24th. Just like all of Weiss’ album this is a very personal project. It began by looking different intersections in Chicago, but quickly became more about the intersections in Weiss’ own life. Below is a video preview for the album.

Weiss will be touring this fall with Saves The Day.

Reissued Track: “Slowly Dark” – Nick Millevoi

Posted on:

Here’s a bit of drone and noise for you called "Slowly Dark" from one of our favorite avant-garde guitarists Nick Millevoi. The track originally appeared on his 2012 album In White Sky (Flenser Records), and is being reissued as part of a split single with Dutch improv sax/drum duo Dead Neanderthals, who Millevoi will be touring with this fall. He also has two shows in Philly on August 8 at The Random Tea House as a duo with Jesse Kudler and August 10 at Ortlieb’s for his Ricart/Millevoi Quartet record release of Haitian Rail (Gaffer Records). They will most likely be his last local ones before hitting the road in Europe for nearly a month during September/October.

Stream the Hugs new album, Love Led You Here

The psychedelic garage gods, The Hugs are set to release another full legnth album Love Led You Here. The thrashing guitar riffs and spacey vocals that define their sound is as prevelent as the amount of work and effort put into this. The physchedelic element has come a long way and took the uniqueness of The Hugs sound to a new plateau. Although the album does not officially release until July 30th, you can stream here for a Deli exclusive. – Colin Hudson

Buffalo Clover all over Nashville this August

Posted on:

Keywords in the bio of Buffalo Clover include: garage, Motown, acid, boxcar, gypsy, Vaudevillian, folk, and train wreck, and make me wish I had some sort of point system for verbiage.  Within all of that I hear an exceptionally tight band supporting Margo Price, and she sounds as though she was born to entertain you. Between the horn section, Margo’s soulful vocals, and their rootsy throwback vibe, this is perfect summertime music, and there is ample opportunity to catch them this August. So go pick a day here and fulfill your cosmic duty. – Terra James-Jura

Ski Lodge shares “Boy” video + announces debut LP “Big Heart”

Posted on:

After a long wait, Brooklyn’s Ski Lodge announced the release of its debut album, entitled "Big Heart" and scheduled for August 20 on Dovecote. From the preview single ‘Boy’ (streaming below, video here) it was worth the wait. The melodic ghost of Morrisey pops up in this track, but since summer always comes with that intense craving for beautifully melancholic uptempo pop songs, that’s totally a good thing.

The Pilgrims hit all the right notes with It’s Not Pretty, getting ready for release of Buss

Posted on:

Hailing from the small town of Windsor, VT, The Pilgrims break from the norm of the jam-band heavy culture often found in northern New England and have forged together an awesome brand of gritty rock n’ roll. It’s Not Pretty is a great example of their rock prowess. Their guitar tone is powerful and somewhat sleazy, with awesome gang vocal choruses, somewhat reminiscent of Bon Scott-era AC/DC.

The band just came through the Boston area, but they will be releasing a new album, Buss, on August 2nd in White River Junction, VT. If you’re in the neighborhood, definitely stop in and give these guys a listen. Check their Facebook page for more on this show and other upcoming gigs.

Raw Geronimo In-Store Tonight at Amoeba, Debut LP ‘Dream Fever’ out 7/30

Posted on:

My first introduction to Raw Geronimo was a mesmerizing, transcendent experience. I had heard of their reputation for rousing, electricfying live shows; their DIY, punk backgrounds, but nothing could have prepared me for what they were about to do on stage at The Echo on August 24, 2012. I was there to see Julia Holter, but my curiosity about Raw Geronimo led me to arrive early enough to catch their opening set. It’s one I will never forget. Expecting electric guitars and amps to be loaded to the stage, to my delight and awe, the band walked on with string instruments. The group had prepared a special acoustic set for this show, one in which, frontwoman, Laena Geronimo, did something I’ve never seen before. She played a violin and sang lead vocals. It was a majestic performance. Laena and her bandmates are incredibly proficient, boundary-pushing artists. And now, their unique and varied influences converge on the debut LP, ‘Dream Fever,’ set for release July 30 on Neurotic Yell Records. The first single, “Magnetic Love,” is an emotionally earnest, hopeful, and rollicking tune. All that is special about this spellbinding group is on full display. It is in it’s own way anthemic, and Geronimo’s voice takes center stage, soaring above jangling guitars and bombastic drums. Raw Geronimo perform at Amoeba today at 7pm, where the album will be available for purchase ahead of it’s release. – Jacqueline Caruso

NYC band on the rise: Cardiknox plays The Knit on 08.10

Posted on:

The recycling of 80s sounds in the current electronic scene often sends chills down our spines – we were there in the 80s, and THAT music was a big chunk of what we rebelled against (how naive of us…). While some of today’s artists perform a true, more or less ironic revival of that period by faithfully recreating its most cliche’ sonics, new Brooklyn based duo Cardiknox offers a more intriguing musical product, at least in the only single available so far, entitled "Hold Me Down" (streaming). First of all this track is a proper song, with well structured verse, chorus, chord changes AND a bridge (two elements that, respectively, electronic acts and pretty much all emerging bands tend to be allergic to). Secondly, the 80s influences are not exclusively referencing the usual suspects, offering a rather aggressive production that’s reminiscent of some Duran Duran stuff we were too young to rebel against (they were awesome up to "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" anyway). The result is a sound that feels much edgier and original than your average records by 80s inspired electro artists.

If this band’s future material is as good as this song – and if singer Lonnie Angle can deliver live as she does on record – this band could go places. See them live at The Knit on August 10.

Video: Cloud Cover “Cannibalism”

Posted on:

When she’s not busy fronting Dirty Dishes, LA-based musician Jenny Tuite writes and records as Cloud Cover— an outlet for her dark, brooding, droning pop tendencies. Cloud Cover’s debut self-titled EP, released earlier this month, digs deep into the trenches of lo-fi psychedelia using as few materials as possible, it seems. Standout track “Cannibalism" has a fittingly unsettling video to accompany it, made up of spliced-together clips from classic films. Once you get a taste of “Cannibalism" and find yourself wanting more, grab a limited edition handmade cassette from her bandcamp page.

Stream: FIDLAR “Awkward”

Posted on:

Rambunctious garage quartet FIDLAR continue to enjoy their banner year by releasing new single "Awkward", an entirely new song to surface since the release of their self-titled debut earlier this year. The song has less of the sloppy, flighty abandon of the aforementioned and takes a more pure-pop songwriting approach, but it’s not that far off from what we expect from FIDLAR: Zac Carper continues to highlight a self-deprecating personality with an infectiously catchy chorus, not to mention that it also strikes with a crunchy power chord that’s gritty as it is melodic. Also, is there a hint of Moog synthesizer in the chorus (The Rentals, anyone?) In short, not much has changed for these guys and all the better for it. "Awkward" will comprise one side of a tour-only, split 7" with touring mates The Orwells.
