Locals Only w/Break It Up, The Fantastic Imagination & Idle Idols at KFN June 5

Posted on:

It looks like Boston’s Pretty & Nice have dropped off tonight’s bill at Kung Fu Necktie due to a family emergency. So now this evening will be locals only. Taking over the headlining slot will be Break It Up, who are performing out for the first time since the release of their long-awaited self-titled debut LP. (So if you were hoping for them to have a release party, then you can come out and pretend like this is a belated one.) Just added to the lineup is pop-psych project The Fantastic Imagination, which features members of A Sunny Day in Glasgow and Arc In Round. And kicking off the post-Independence Day festivities will be audacious four-piece Idle Idols, who happen to have one of my favorite new band names. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $5, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman

Stream: You Me & Us “Swim or Sink”

Posted on:

A crunchy, distorted guitar opens You Me & Us’ latest single "Swim & Sink", underpinning a cascading wash of softly keened noise. The trio from Palm Springs emphasizes a straight shooting pop sounds that gets its point across in the span of two minute bursts, with a soothing melodic warmth all the more tempered by Carlee Hendrix’s croupy, yet mellifluous vocals. They just self-released their debut EP Stay Inside, which they’re currently promoting across the Midwest; but there’s no need to fret, since they’re coming back to play the Glass House in Pomona on July 27th. You can stream the track by visiting their soundcloud page.

Merry Independence Day Y’all!

Posted on:

Hope that you are enjoying plenty of grillin’ and drinkin’ today. Well, if your still looking for a spot to hang, swing on by Jamaican Jerk Hut where Toy Soldiers will be celebrating their 7” release with buddies Levee Drivers, The Lawsuits, TJ Kong and Joe Fletcher (happening from 12pm – 4pm, $10 admission, BYOB). It’ll certainly be over in time for you to catch rising Philly emcees Chill Moody and Gliss throwing down at the ?uestlove stage on the Parkway. And obviously, The Roots and fireworks will also be going on if you’re still standing by then (which would be quite impressive if you’ve been going hard since noon). Of course, to quote one of the classics on this day, “Don’t forget what you’re celebrating, and that’s the fact that a bunch of slave-owning, aristocratic, white males didn’t want to pay their taxes.” Cheers!

Providence-Boston Band Kid Mountain Releases “Visitor’s Center” EP

Posted on:

As I was scouring the internet for the next band/artist/musical act to catch my ear, I stumbled on something awesome. Yes, awesome. Kid Mountain’s Visitor’s Center EP is a great set of tracks. It opens up with a great boom of energy and sustains that excitement and passion throughout each of the seven songs. A blend of Fleet Foxes reverb and vocals, coupled with Dodos-esque rhythms makes this EP a must on your iTunes playlist (you can download it from their bandcamp site for only $5!). The entire EP actually reminds me of hanging out on a deck at a party in the summertime, and who doesn’t like partying outside? Even if you hate parties, you’ll certainly dig the tunes these guys have created. The second track on Visitor’s Center, “Upskirt”, really stood out to me; with it’s powerful guitars and gang vocal choruses, I would imagine these guys are great live. The band recently wrapped up an East Coast tour, but stay on the lookout for them at a club/bar/basement near you.

The Dough Rollers release 7″ ‘Little Lily’ + drop country for blues rock?

Posted on:

Founded in 2009 by Malcolm Ford and Jack Byrne, quartet The Dough Rollers has bi-coastal roots in L.A. and New York, where the band is currently based. The group’s self-titled debut, released as a trio, is a country affair with instrumental eclecticism through the employment of mandolin, kazoo, washboards, and even a fiddle at times. But the band (who made it in The Deli’s Best Emerging NYC Artists of 2012 list) just unveiled the single ‘Little Lily,’ which seems to reveal a blues-rock turn – out soon in 7" format under Third Man records – Devon Antonetti

From The Deli NYC’s online music submissions: The Post Nobles

Posted on:

If Panda Bear was just a little more like Stephen Malkmus and was on a weird spiritual journey, you might end up with The Post Nobles. A band that loves slacking in good weather as much as daydreaming, they put out a self-titled E.P. that carries a joy for the summer over wavy odes to good times (‘Happy Song’) and also offers the unexpected waves of ‘March of the Mutants (Sunlight in the Sky),’ a psychedelic trip that encapsulates a lot of surprises.

Of course, you can’t really get the whole picture about the Long Island quartet without first digging their popular leading track ‘Summer Toons’ (streaming below), an ode to… well… summer and toons. This is sun-worshipping pop bliss. Bring a beach towel and get busy with the suntan lotion. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
