Here’s a recording of a live performance by Pill Friends that was recently made available for download. It is from their acoustic set on June 8, 2013 at The Soup Kitchen, and contains older songs and new ones, which will appear on their forthcoming album.
Chill-tronica from Brooklyn: Pajama People
Though they might not have to get out of their pajamas to write their groovy, level-headed music, Pajama People sound very awake. The group synthesizes (literally and figuratively) chillwave and more pyschedelic influences into a smooth sound that will leave with you no choice but to bust a move. Think Wild Nothing meets Washed Out meets Air meets a bunch of old disco records. – Jack McGovern

New Track: “Bodega” (Feat. Ricardo Lagomasino, Eric Slick, YIKES the ZERO, Lushlife & Jeff Zeigler) – John Pfeffer
If you’ve ever seen/heard John Pfeffer perform solo or with his band Capillary Action, then you should know that he is a very unique songwriter. Below is an avant-garde new track called "Bodega" that features his collaborative work with some of Philly’s finest such as Ricardo Lagomasino (Many Arms) on SPD-SX, Eric Slick (Dr. Dog) on acoustic drum kit, YIKES the ZERO & Lushlife on vocals, and Jeff Zeigler (Arc In Round) with support from the American Composers Forum. Go ahead, and try to wrap your head around this one.
The Cultured to Open for Shwayze at THE MET in Pawtucket This August
Hailing from Brockton, MA, The Cultured met in high school and began creating some of the best sometimes indie, sometimes reggae inspired rock in New England, and after three years touring the Boston circuit have landed an opening gig for Shwayze in Rhode Island next month. This comes after the release of one full-length album on S.H.O.P. Records in 2012 and in the midst of their new single "Revelation"’s buzz, leaving the four-piece band poised for huge success before a sophomore release. There’s no doubt thatthe Shwayze show is only the beginning for The Cultured, so scramble to check them out while they’re still playing smaller venues before they become the new big thing. –Jamie Loftus

New Track: “The Clap Song” – Time Hitler and the Assholes From Space
Time Hitler and the Assholes From Space certainly have one of the most original band names around town. Below is a bluesy, guitar-driven new track called "The Clap Song" off their latest LP Wild & Willing. You can catch the local area psych-rock five-piece live tonight when they open for Brooklyn’s VietNam (Mexican Summer) at MilkBoy Philly.
Weekly Feature: Streets of Laredo
Kiwi transplants Streets of Laredo was one of the highlight of our B.E.A.F. 2013 Alt Folk Stage in early June – they packed Spike Hill and put up a truly entertaining show. The trio flew back to their home country earlier this year to finalize a full length album we are looking forward to listening to. While waiting, enjoy once again their single from last year ‘Girlfriend’ (streaming below) and this recent Mike Levine’s interview with the band here.
Salt Cathedral releases preview single “Move Along” + announces EP release
NYC avant-pop band Salt Cathedral (previously known as Il Albanico) just divulged the single "Move Along" (streaming below) from the upcoming self titled EP, scheduled for a July 30 release. Incorporating influences as disparate as dub and jungle in a song that sounds like pop but (unlike all pop tunes) doesn’t resolve, the track features sparser and more peculiar arrangements compared to the musicians’ previous incarnation, leaving a lot of space for Juliana Ronderos’ vocals to shine.

"Our bass player, Michael Eng, made this stop motion robot epic all by his lonesome. Daniel Severs plays drums like a force, and me, Jules, I play guitar and sing a bit. Our E.P. is now available on itunes. Lookout for a vinyl release very soon. Love from Lovelife"
From The Deli NYC’s online music submissions: Tim Garrigan
Wandering around New York City and feeling lost is a recurring theme that permeates all sorts of depictions of the city. Despite the fact that you’re surrounded by millions of people, you feel lonely, and so on. But notwithstanding the slightly conventional subject – and a sound that often betrays a passion for Bob Dylan – Tim Garrigan displays those desperate, lost feelings with courage and a remarkable ability to convey a wide range of emotions, showing that the archetype of the lonely city dweller, when rendered with depth and complexity, can still be a well of lyrical inspiration. – Jack McGovern

Weekend Warrior, July 5 – 7
Tonight proto-punk trio Lantern will be celebrating the release of their first full-length album Rock ‘N’ Roll Rorschach, whose title was inspired by the vigilante character from Alan Moore’s graphic novel, Watchmen. The LP officially comes out this Tuesday, July 9 via Louisville indie label Sophomore Lounge, but you’ll be able to grab your vinyl copy this evening at Johnny Brenda’s. Led by the raunchy, searing guitar work of Zachary Fairbrother with its backbone held together by bassist Emily Robb and new(ish) drummer Christian Simmons, Lantern will live up to their name as a beacon of light for rock ‘n’ roll lovers by setting the stage ablaze. You should expect saxophonist David Fishkin (Extreme Fishkin) adding plenty of sonic blasts to their set. They’ll also be joined on the bill by Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band, who are freshly off their residency at Ortlieb’s so I have no doubt that their jams will be tight, and Ivory Tuskk, the project from The War on Drugs’ Robbie Bennett. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Alexis V.
