Ra Ra Rasputin and F#@K The Rent get up all night for good fun this weekend.

Posted on:

The electronic dance rock of DC’s Ra Ra Rasputin is going on a short tour this week with a lineup that will either keep you dancing all night or get you laid (or both, no guarantees, bring protection). Gyrate provocatively as you listen to them jam on Thursday July 11th at the Ottobar in Baltimore, Friday July 12th at Velvet Lounge in DC, and Saturday July 13th in Brooklyn at a super hip Secret Loft show. Joining RRR for all three shows will be Ichicuts (an electro-soul 2 piece from Brooklyn). Adam to the Max and .rar Kelly from F#@K The Rent, Baltimore’s party-to-end-all-parties, will be spinning plates between sets (if the beat don’t stop, your feet don’t stop). The lineup changes a bit for each show, as other bands crash the party. Check the facebook event pages linked above for more info and sounds. Here’s a new track from Ra Ra Rasputin to tide you over.

Psych NYC band on the rise: Spires lands Pianos residency in July

Posted on:

Though relatively new to the local psych-rock scene, Brooklyn’s Spires have already begun to garner some well-deserved attention. Their song “Candy Flip” (streaming) takes direct aim at the late 1980’s “Madchester” era, capturing that vibe and sound with impressive results. Much like the Gallagher brothers looked to The Beatles for a framework to expand on, Spires takes The Stone Roses lead and builds their own playground out of it. “Comic Book” keeps the Manc-style vibe intact, pushing things forward with bigger production values like handclaps, big chorus ambiance and a solid percussive base. Sweet pop background vocals make this track perfect for the next coming-of-age film or tv soundtrack. The band is now in residency at Pianos, with shows every Tuesday this month. – Dave Cromwell

New Track: “Head On” – Man Man

Posted on:

Man Man premiered a new track called "Head On" earlier today via Pitchfork. It also comes with a lyric video, and will appear on their upcoming album On Oni Pond, which is due out September 10 via Anti-. The record was once again produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit), and judging by this single, the "doom wop" sounds from Honus Honus’ project with Islands’ Nick Thorburn, Mister Heavenly, has seeped into this latest release.

Black Taxi headlines Bowery on 07.12

Posted on:

This Friday, July 12 Brooklyn’s Black Taxi will be putting on a heck of a homecoming show – as riveting, energetic, and raucous as they got us used to. After a tour that took them down the east coast, through the south and back, the dance-groove driven rock quartet headlines Bowery Ballroom. Earlier this year, the band spent two months in Austin writing and recording new material and emerged with their newest single, “House on Fire” (streming below). Also joining Friday’s party are Albany’s soul-tinged rock ‘n rollers, The Wild Adriatic, and Austin’s folksy-pop trio, Marmalakes. – Meijin Bruttomesso

From the NYC Open Blog: Nina Yasmineh

Posted on:

Originally from Minneapolis, MN but now firmly based in NYC after graduating from NYU this past spring, Nina Yasmineh‘s new material reflects her growth as a musician over the past few years. Drawing on inspiration from artists like Florence + the Machine and Lorde, the self-produced ‘Seven Years’ EP is a seductive stylistic departure from Yasmineh’s previous work and "showcases the warmth and range of Nina as a vocalist and performer" (HillyDilly.com). – (as posted in The Deli’s Open Blog – post your band’s entries, videos, and Mp3s here). Knifight, Dark Voices LP Review, Show @ Holy Mountain, 7/10/13

Posted on:

One month after its release, Knifight’s first LP, Dark Voices, still dominates the heavy rotation list. From the preeminent dark wavers, these dance-fast, poppish numbers run through with fuzzily-verbed rhythm. Stabbed clean with synths, organs, and other forms of 80-ish digitalia, the album is finished with a solid skewering via John Gable’s Voice of God, reverbed into near-psychedelic places.

Try "In The Fire", "Whisper Room", "Black Dagger", or the title track if you’re looking for a faster, can’t-get-enough-of-it number. If you favor a slow twist, give the deliciously-romantic "Cosmonaut", "Peace Cry", or "My Angels" a spin. I’m calling Dark Voices one of the best collections of dark wave rock to grace 2013. You should thrust this one into your iPod. Better yet, catch these guys in the act. Knifight will be ascending Holy Mountain tomorrow, 7/10/13 and then transfixing the Empire Control Room on 7/19/13. –Written by Scott Osborn
