Rising stars in the eclectic eastside scene, Incan Abraham, are releasing “Tuolumne/Whidbey” via White Iris Records on August 6. A follow up to their 2012 Springhouse EP, the digital release will be accompanied with a photo zine featuring photos from their music video shoot for the title track. The group’s trademark combination of dreamy synths, tribal rhythms, and lush harmonies are present in their latest work, all bathed in the glow of maturity and experience. Incan Abraham have continued to impress, never straying from their own brand of psych pop, but ever improving it’s nuances; their technical abilities supporting the transcendent, soaring melodies rather than diluting their presence. The quartet will spend this weekend on a tour of SoCal, kicking off tonight, July 11, at The Echo. – Jacqueline Caruso

Here’s a new jam and music video from one of our favorite bands Spacin’. "MEGATATIONS (no.1)" appears on a 3-song CDR that the band just put together for their Portugal/Spain/France tour. Canned Beets Play Easy Tiger 7/24/13
Canned Beets are an up and coming band that’s been spreading their psychedelic sound waves all over Austin and Central Texas. This self-described “groove trio” has a quite a bit of clout. Band members RyDogg Johnson, Doug Leveton, and Rolf Ordahl are no strangers to the Austin music scene and have been involved in several other successful music projects.
Their latest collaboration combines improvisation with solid pocket grooves, making them reminiscent of the Roots or Phish. With their wah-wah rhythms, New Orleans inspired organ funk, and danceable beats, Canned Beets will have you biting that lower lip and moving to the groove in no time. Their next two shows are at Easy Tiger on July 24th and 31st. –Written by Faith Braverman
NYC Record of the Month: Natureboy’s ‘The Sweep’ – live at Cameo on 07.27
Haunting, evocative, dangerous, rootsy and futuristic at once, Natureboy has the ability to pull synthetic designs and lay them down beside folksy intimacies, which gives her an otherworldly charm like no other artist today.
Available July 23rd, her new record ‘The Sweep’ challenges these worlds to come together like nothing the mysterious singer-songwriter has made yet. Complete with featured vocals from Sharon Van Etten, tracks like ‘Never Better’ and ‘Sugar’ bring intimate acoustic folk alongside samples galore, and make it sound as if it’s the most natural thing in the world to hear.
Fave song and preview single ‘Lexies’ gives you a direct portal to singer Sara Kermanshahi’s soul. Check it out below and see her crazy live performance (Natureboy has to be seen on stage to experience her properly) on July 27th when she plays Cameo Gallery. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
This song was added to our Soundcloud compilation of best tracks by emerging NYC artists – check it out!
Parasol Playing at Lilypad July 11
Parasol’s Scoot Over 7” sounds so good I just want to relive the entire 7:27 over and over and over again. The melodies are so catchy that the first track, “Unglued”, will most likely get stuck in your head, making your day infinitely better. I’m impressed at how tight everything sounds on these three songs; and for being such a lo-fi recording, the mix is really balanced. The only drawback about Scoot Over is that it has to end so quickly. On the plus side, Parasol will be playing a show at Lilypad this Thursday, July 11 in Cambridge as part of a Boston Hassle/B.O.W. Shows-sponsored event with The Mantles (SF), Juan Waters (NYC) and Cuffs. Show starts at 10PM, All ages. $5-10 cover, sliding scale. Check out Parasol’s Tumblr. for more info.
