After dazzling us with their debut singles “Giantess” and “Freyja,” Tutlie will finally be dropping their first EP, Hush Up. The release is a companion to their upcoming full-length album, and will be available this evening in conjunction with the group’s show at Johnny Brenda’s opening for LA pop trio Superhumanoids. The band will be giving out handmade download cards to those in attendance. Also on the lineup will be Moon Bounce, a.k.a. Corey Regensburg, a local native who impressed multiple major music media outlets and blogs with his beautifully orchestrated debut EP Darn Your Best Frock in 2011. It was followed up by last year’s EP Wheelhouse, and tonight will be a good opportunity to hear what the inventive producer has been working on lately. Being able to find this much talent under one roof on a Monday night is just one of the many reasons why Philly’s music scene rules – so take advantage of it! Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Xaphoon Jones Will No Longer Be Performing Live w/Chiddy Bang
There have been rumors hovering around the Chiddy Bang camp about the future of the group. The duo recently issued a statement to clarify these “rumblings.” Xaphoon Jones, a.k.a. Noah Beresin, will no longer be performing live on stage or in front of the cameras with Chiddy, a.k.a. Chidera Anamege. Pure X Album Release, Crawling Up the Stairs 5/14/13, Local Show TBA
Crawling Up the Stairs brings listeners to Hades’ doorstep where, with Pure X, we fight our way back to the surface. A cheerful me before starting Crawling Up the Stairs was a mess of depression and lonliness mere measures into the album, but the true power of their songwriting came through with "Thousand Year Old Child". This song is the chillest of chill songs. After literally crawling out of hell, "Thousand Year Old Child" was like an injection of peace. Pure couldn’t be more right when it comes to describing Pure X as each song provokes a true emotional reality, something so few can capture. Give Crawling Up the Stairs a listen and check out Pure X’s new music video for "Thousand Year Old Child". —Written by Katy Glass

Cough Cool Record Release Show at KFN June 22
Psalmships Opening for Steve Gunn at JB’s June 22
Ever since he released his solo masterpiece Boerum Palace, New York guitarist Steve Gunn has been receiving an endless amount of praise, which also holds true in the Philly music community. So it’s not surprising that the Kurt Vile affiliate has chosen Johnny Brenda’s to have a record release show for his latest effort Time Off. It’s the first album where the guitar legend leads an enigmatic trio. And while Gunn and New York’s Endless Boogie will be making this show one to see, local folk songwriter (and oddball tweeter) Psalmships, a.k.a. Joshua Britton, will most definitely impress as well. And as he gets closer and closer to releasing his latest EP Some Ships, Britton has also been refining newer songs at live shows. So tonight may be a suitable preview. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford St., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Bill McThrill
Weekly Feature: Frances Rose
If aliens were into goth music, they might listen to Frances Rose. The Brooklyn based duo is writing the soundtrack to some landscape, but its contours are all their own. Maybe that’s why Lizzy Plapinger from emerged electro soul act MS MR has taken the electro-pop sisters Sarah and Michelle Rose under her label’s wing. Or why they’ve recently worked with VICE’s campaign for Garnier Fructis, and won Deli’s Magazine’s readers poll for best new emerging artist. Whatever the case, you’re not likely to find anything quite like their electronic, psych vamps if you try. Take a listen… and find your inner vampire. – Read Mike Levine’s interview with the band here.
Emily Bell Album Release, In Technicolor 5/24/13, Show TOMORROW @ Threadgill’s w/ Carolyn Wonderland
Soulful, bluesy, and true rock’n’roll grit are what make Emily Bell an Austin music must. From her recently released debut album In Technicolor, "Back to the Way I Was", a saucy/flirty number, showcases Bell’s seemingly effortless, yet powerful voice. Where her voice will empower, her music video will have you putting on red lipstick, a short skirt, and unleashing those diva dance moves. Don’t miss Emily for her last home show at Threadgill’s Saturday, June 22 at 9 p.m. before she hits the road for her summer tour. —Written by Courtney Pierce
Laughing Eye Weeping Eye “Beway”
In their new video for the title track of their latest album, "Beway", Laughing Eye Weeping Eye prove that they put the "freak" in freak-folk. Their sound may delve into the stranger or darker side of music, but there is something oddly beautiful in it as well.
Beway was released on the 11th and can be purchased here. You can catch Laughing Eye Weeping Eye at Hungry Brain on July 9th with Alloy Fox, The Tinycakes and Hannis Pannis.
