It’s Happening Tonight: East Nashville Underground

Posted on:

Our favorite weekend of the season is upon us! Starting tonight at 9 pm, East Nashville Underground‘s spring lineup hits the East Room for their last festival weekend in the two-story venue on Gallatin Road. Tonight starts strong with the Kicks and the Weeks headlining, and the weekend has no intention of slowing down, with Erin McCarley and Alyssa Bonagura headlining the Saturday day show and the Kingston Springs and Chancellor Warhol taking the big spots for the night show.

In the past, we’ve spared no expense fawning over the Corders and their independent festival that started in a basement, so there’s no doubt that you’re in for a wild ride this weekend. For the price of a wristband, you get two nights (and one day!) of rad music, free drinks, and a $1 candy buffet (where you’ll find me, hi). If you haven’t pre-ordered your day pass or wristband, be sure to show up early to get in, and we can’t wait to see all of your sweaty, happy faces tonight at the East Room!

We’re getting closer to Memorial Day Weekend, which is traditionally considered the beginning of summer and trips to the beach. Well, tonight you can party like you’re taking a summer vacay at Underground Arts for Vacationer’s Nude Beach Party. The dream-pop crew will be headlining their continuing event as well as spinning some tunes once again this evening, and they’ve assembled a truly rad lineup with rising Deli Philly fave sex-pop outfit, Night Panther, and former Deli NYC cover guys and gal, Body Language, providing the type of jams that will get the crowd shedding off some clothes and showing some skin. It’s definitely a party weekend, and now, you know where to start it off right! Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 9pm, $8 adv/$10 door, 21+ – Q.D. Tran

Little Big League Opening for Marnie Stern at JB’s May 10

Posted on:

There’s a big summer brewing for Post Post alums Little Big League, who recently announced that they will be part of the Tiny Engines (Restorations, Tigers Jaw, Dikembe) lineage and that the indie label will be releasing their debut LP These Are Good People, which was produced by Craig Hendrix. And if the single My Very Own You is any indication, things should be heating up for the local four-piece. Tonight’s show at Johnny Brenda’s will be a great time to catch the band and preview some new tunes, especially since they’ll be opening for shred queen (and rock ‘n’ roll crush to many) Marnie Stern. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford St., 9pm, $12, 21+ – Bill McThrill

Weekly Feature: Port St. Willow plays Rockwood tonight (05.10)

Posted on:

Under the guise Port St Willow, native New Yorker Nicholas Principe creates spacious, ambient music led by roving guitar lines and the artist’s lingering falsetto, all showcased on his fine debut full-length record Holiday. The record’s conception was inspired by a three year period living in the Pacific Northwest, and the region’s grand, mountainous terrain seeps into the compositions which veer from soaring anthems to crushing ballads, all of which is draped in layers of atmospheric resonance as Principe assembles his arrangements with meticulous care. Met by critics with rapturous approval, the album has recently been re-released by Downtown Records with new 25 minute composition "Soft Light Rush" as a companion piece. – Read Dean Van Nguyen’s interview with Nicholas Principe here.

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best mellow songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Weekly Feature: Vassals

Posted on:

Brooklyn’s Vassals released their first full length "In My Dreams I Am A Sailor" this past fall. Stand out tracks like "Informers" utilize sparse bass guitar patterns and tom tom driven beats, allowing for a change to clearly understand the vocals. Singing about "ghosts" by way of their "father," the song builds from quiet levels to a bombastic finish. Another track we like, "Dark Circles" initially moves things into further solemn ground, before (again) rising to a dramatic sonic peak. There are references to "dead little stars" that "used to burn so bright." "Tambourines" presents itself as a start-to-finish rave up rocker, and finding the album title embedded within these lyrics positions it as a signature track. Album closer "The River" makes effective use of bended guitar notes to create a sonic image of water in motion. – Read Dave Cromwell‘s interview with the bands here.
