Stripmall Architecture Releases New Single – Commuter

Posted on:

San Francisco based high glam electronic dream pop band, Stripmall Architecture has released a new single from their forthcoming LP. The band’s latest single, which has been released as a free digital download and a music video is entitled, Commuter. Commuter is a satirical track about the realities of traveling hours to work a 9 to 5 job, and the mundaness the process entails. The video is impressively professional, and the song is just as well produced. Stripmall Architecture creates on a very high, polished and aesthetically potent level.

You can download Commuter for free via Soundcloud. Keep your eyes and ears open for the band’s new full-length effort, Suburban Reverb, which is set for release on June 18, 2013.

Ludwig Persik releases new single via White Iris

Posted on:

We fell in love with Ludwig Persik‘s psychedelic gems the very first day we heard his music – that’s why his debut EP was our Record of the Month back in October 2012. The young man is currently working on a full length, while releasing the single "No Go" – streaming below – on White Iris Records (home to Best Coast and Fool’s Gold amongst others).

We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Leopold and His Fiction Tour the Nation, Local Show @ Stubb’s 6/2/13

Posted on:

Timeless and transcendent, Leopold and His Fiction is like a delicious simmering musical stew with heavy flavors of Rock and Roll, Blues, a dash of Folk and shreddings of guitar. Their music is sure to satisfy your tastebuds while you dance around the kitchen. Oddly enough, the man behind that Freddie Mercury-esque mustache is not named Leopold, but Daniel James.

Although inspired by a fictional character created by Daniel during his time in San Francisco, there is nothing fictional about how talented his band is. Together since 2005 and currently residing in Austin, Leopold and His Fiction is now on tour but will be returning for a local show in June inside Stubb’s. Check out their live performance style here. — Written by Courtney Pierce

Heliotropes release free Mp3 from “A Constant Sea,” out in June

Posted on:

The fine ladies in Brooklyn’s Heliotropes continue to carve out a niche in the psych rock genre with their penchant for doom heavy grooves. The band has just released the first single “Psalms,” which will be included on their debut album “A Constant Sea” set for release on June 18 via Manimal Vinyl records. “Psalms” thunders along a buzzing, rough-hewn guitar riff that dominated so much of the psychedelic hard rock in the early 1970’s. With a slithering groove paired alongside smooth seductive vocals, the band hits us with a quickened tempo change for good measure. The lyrics trend towards philosophical questions like “Do you feel that love is real?” and “am I really born to die?” A wickedly nasty guitar solo gives you the answer. Upcoming shows include their Album Release Party at Glasslands on June 18th and The 4Knots Fest on June 29th. – Dave Cromwell

New Music Video: “Ode to Fig” – Bad Braids

Posted on:

Here’s a new music video from Bad Braids (a.k.a. Megan Biscieglia) for her track "Ode to Fig." The song is from her forthcoming full-length album Supreme Parallel, which is due out May 1 via Austin-based indie label Haute Magie. The video was produced by Tamyka Smith and Diana Martinez from Brooklyn’s Daughters Project. (BTW: This just might be what we’d do if left alone for a day at a cabin in the woods with some alcohol…hehe.) Special thanks to The Key for bringing it to our attention. (Photo by Elizabeth Lennox)

Industrial Park Celebrate the Release of a New 7″ at Recess Gallery 4.27

Posted on:

The complex and experimental sounds of Industrial Park have been embraced by the goth-rock/post-punk band scene in Portland, and for good reason. The chemistry between this duo is refreshing and honest, while the music is always exciting and straightforward. With a new music video out and the debut of a 7” this Saturday, things don’t look to be slowing down. Industrial Park will be sharing the bill this weekend with two great bands. Hausu, a rock group from Portland that pairs poetic lyrics with a rocking performance and the ambient and lovely Warm Hands. It’s all going down at The Recess Gallery at 8pm on Saturday, April 27th. – Joy Pearson

New Track: “Future Primitive” – Joe Boruchow

Posted on:

You may be familiar with Joe Boruchow‘s work as a street artist. His rad black and white paper cutout pieces are wheatpasted throughout the city (similar to the one above). Well, Boruchow has also recorded and performed music fronting his band The Nite Lights. He recently dropped his first solo release entitled Mind Eraser EP. Check out a standout track from the record called "Future Primitive" below! (BTW: We can’t help thinking about the classic skate video from Powell Peralta’s Bones Brigade with the same name. And if you are a skateboarding fan and have Netflix streaming, we highly suggest watching the documentary about the Bones Brigade crew – sooooo good!)

Far-Out Fangtooth Provide Menacing Sounds at KFN April 25

Posted on:

Kung Fu Necktie boasts a dense cloud of neo-psychedelic rock this evening. The quartet of Far-Out Fangtooth (who are scheduled to release their sophomore LP Borrowed Time later this fall), play with a calculated raw edge. The guitars deliver a heavy piercing metal finish that is further reinforced by primal, forward-thrusting percussion that bashes away claiming space as it moves, and the finishing touches are the tormented vocals that emerge from the darkness guiding the menacing sounds. Far-Out Fangtooth, will be joined by hard-rocking retro outfit Ruby the Hatchet, who is fronted by Jillian Taylor displaying femme fatale force with the tight group. They’re the type of band that continuously builds momentum on stage and watch out when they hit top speed. Brooklyn’s skuzzy garage outfit The Vandelles combine a harmony-pop, surf-rock retro vibe balanced with raw grit that’s both smooth and mysterious. The cloud will grow thick by the time headliners The Warlocks cast their spell. Dark Electro duo Weeknight opens for Besnard Lakes at Bowery on 05.03

Posted on:

Weeknight is the next in a long line of male/female duo acts that sound a little like an electro version of the Raveonettes or Beach House. Hell, this stuff is practically in the wallpaper of the Glasslands Gallery in Williamsburg these days. Moody and lust-filled, Weeknight’s debut EP is so deeply rooted in good taste that you really don’t mind Warhol’s glowing banana becoming a sound of ubiquity. Catch Weeknight at the Bowery Ballroom on May 3rd opening for The Besnard Lakes. – Brian Chidester

Old School Soul with a Rock edge: Mad for Justice plays RBar on 05.02

Posted on:

Bassist Billy Asai and guitarist Phil Reeves have played together in various NYC bands for awhile now, but they seem destined for a new funk frontier since joining up with singer Justice L. in 2011. In their group Mad for Justice, the NY quartet brings out the jams, stacking R&B on top of hard rock in crowd favorite ‘Prove My Love.’ Watch their recent performance at the Delancey, and you’ll see how the band proves old school soul is new again.

Stay tuned for the release of their crowd-funded debut EP set to come out early May, and catch the band at RBar on Thursday, May 2nd. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
