The Deli Chicago is proud to be hosting the local debut of the new video from Hemmingbirds. "Toxic Noise" comes from the band’s latest album The Vines of Age. The video was directed by Kevin Larson and was filmed Maine West High School in Des Plaines.

We were recently sent a track by former "Band of the Month" duck. The band used their studio time they won from the poll to record "Basement Tapes" at Catfish Studio with Wes Kosakowski.

Alanna Royale beat out the competition in the first installment, and tonight eight new acts will take the stage to perform for their chance to be the round two champions. The lineup includes:
Andrew Combs
Blackfoot Gypsies
Hanzelle
Little Bandit
Ranch Ghost
Ravello
Shannon LaBrie
Vinyl Thief
Doors are at 9, and entry is free, but the venue will fill up fast, so get in line early (and bring a coat) so you can cast your vote at the end of the night for your favorite band.
The Guggenheim Grotto, the Dublin, Ireland band that’s (thankfully) now situated here in Brooklyn, have just finished recording their latest record and are set to play a couple shows around town to celebrate. After completing national tours with everyone from Ani DiFranco to They Might Be Giants, it’ll be exciting to hear what’s next for the folksy indie pop group.
For any fan of The Pogues or Glen Hansard, listen to the band’s airy approach to love’s lessons hard learned) in latest single ‘Her Beautiful Ideas.’ The video (below) complains about how hard it is to get out of bed, while exhibiting a highly ambitious set of rotating colors and toys in a stop-motion bonanza… so I guess something’s got him out of bed.
Catch the quintet live when they play Rockwood Stage 2, 8 pm tomorrow night (March 26). – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
LA-based trio Gliss is offering an intimate take on songs from its newest album, "Langsom Dans," with a five-part video series of stripped-down performances. Adding to the album’s entrancing and amorous sound, the video series takes listeners to the songs’ most innermost layers. The videos take place in a simple, yet mystical living room setting, making viewers feel like they are getting a personal concert. The series includes the songs: "Into the Water," "Blur," "Weight of Love," and "Kite in the Sky." While Gliss’ songs often carry dark tones, the band manages to add soft beauty and lightness through whispered vocals and sparkling synth textures. The warm, moody qualities of the music lend themselves well to the cozy setting of the video series. It is a nice change of pace for the group after having performed a handful of shows at SXSW. However, Gliss will return full force with a show on Wednesday at the Echo. – Karla Hernández
At SXSW 2013 we caught live Austin based songwriter Rob Bairdduring BMI’s Howdy Texas event. Wearing his Tennessee roots on his sleeves, Rob plays quality Alt Country that winks at the obvious but un-celebrated fathers of the genre (Tom Petty and Neil Young among others). He enterteined the crowd with a flawless performance of his intense songs about redemption and personal journeys – check out one of our favorite "Same Damn Thing" streaming below.
We’ve got a pair of tickets with your name on them for this Wednesday’s show at Underground Arts with SPACEGHOSTPURRP, Raider Klan and Saudi Money (a.k.a. Asaad)! To enter for a chance to win, send us an email at thedelimagazinephiladelphia@gmail.com with the subject line “Ready to Get Blazed on a Wednesday!” Please also include your cell number in the body of the message (in case of an emergency). Good Luck!
Recorded in an impressive five days, ‘Empire’, the debut full length from GRMLN, is set for release on June 4th on Carpark Records. The first single, “Teenage Rhythm” captures the frenetic, impulsive energy of a young man ready to be taken seriously. While still in his sophomore year at UC Santa Cruz, 20 year old Yoodoo Park, made time to write the nine songs that comprise this album, and put together a band to record it. The thread that weaves these songs together is their punk-inspired brevity and intensity, which supports the disillusioned youth storytelling. There’s an upbeat rock-n-roll edge, especially to the single, that adds a layer of hope, as if to further pro-port the claim that while the transition from boy to man can be tumultuous, the audacity to dream stays alive. Stream the track below and catch them for free at Origami Vinyl on March 31. – Jacqueline Caruso
Strand of Oaks, a.k.a. Tim Showalter, has been quite a road warrior ever since the release of his much-beloved 2010 album Pope Killdragon. He’s currently on tour promoting his latest album Dark Shores with Phosphorescent, who is also sharing material from his critically acclaimed new record Muchacho. Tonight they’ll be rolling into Johnny Brenda’s for a sold-out show that will surely have their fans eating up the new tunes. (BTW: Strand of Oaks also just released an EP with earlier versions of tracks from Dark Shores, which I actually enjoy more with its use of vintage synthesizers. It sounds like what I was originally expecting from the LP, based on his interviews before the album dropped. You can decide for yourself below.) Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $13 – $15 (Sold Out), 21+ – Q.D. Tran
