Data Romance contributed to Vacationer‘s Good As New Remix EP, and now the local indie pop outfit has returned the favor by giving the Vancouver duo’s song "Can’t Keep Your Mind Off" the same treatment. You can listen to and download the track for free via Spinner.

Stream: Meg Olsen, “Corners of Bars”
Laurel Canyon-based songstress, Meg Olsen, is like something out of an Anthropologie ad. Romantic and mysterious, yet somehow familiar. She sings plaintively in a more relaxed, but similar fashion to the ladies of First Aid Kit. Tambourines, twangy guitars and rotary-drenched organs dance underneath Olsen’s lilting, laid back poetry. “Corners of Bars,” the first track off her EP, ‘Deal From the Bottom,’ has a ghostly quality that captivates your imagination. She sings stories wrapped in dreams from a bygone era. There’s a mix of folk and bluegrass influence on the EP, but the overarching landscape is mellow, seasoned, and covered in a layer of mist and fog. Stream the entire EP below. – Jacqueline Caruso
Urban Wildlife Record Release Party at The Secret Society 3.29
Emily Logan is at the helm of Portland based wonder Urban Wildlife and she steers quite a ship. Flawlessly navigating through multiple instruments, harmonic layers and subtle effects, Logan stays on course. That course is a smooth folk sound that never gets stale. Perhaps more impressive than her continually fresh sound, Logan manages to always remain fluent in emotional undertones without being weighty or bleak. The end result will be presented at the Secret Society this Friday night as Urban Wildlife celebrates the release of their self titled album. Patrons that evening will also be enchanted by the talented Anna and The Underbelly, who is perhaps one of my personal favorite gems in the Portland folk scene. She is always engaging and never precious, a difficult task that she pulls off with charm. Rounding out this impressive bill will be Cait Olds. Her album Prison Town is heartbreakingly beautiful and haunting, just like an old prison town tends to be. This Friday at 8:30 pm the doors will open and only $5 will get you into all the magic. – Joy Pearson

Pheasant Celebrate Their New Album at Doug Fir 3.28
Pheasant is friendly, just five guys making music in Portland. They impress rock that is down-home, with the lamentations in the breadth of Matt Jenkins’s voice narrated by the compelling trumpet of Matt Mooney (two Matts are best!). What opens up are enduring jam sessions that could be a soundtrack down a long highway with your windows down, past mountains down the coast. The band’s second release, Gravel Beach, has prevalent bass and speedy drums that are more spy getaway than neighborhood indie. The title track is a story of escaping the the "po-lice", multiple tracks breakout into classic guitar solos and back-up vocals overlap in harmonies. Celebrate the release of Gravel Beach with Pheasant, with Fanno Creek and Summer Cannibals at Doug Fir Lounge on 3/28. Pheasant will also be playing a free, all ages in-store performance at 7pm at Music Millenium same day. – Brandy Crowe
SHARK? releases new single “California Grrls” + announce full length
The recent, collector/nostalgia driven phenomenon of the limited-edition-cassette revival is becoming more and more popular, and we wonder if anybody is really playing these quaint old relics when the music is available online, just one click away… the four dudes from Brooklyn’ power pop mainstays Shark? will be putting out such old fashioned release featuring their new single "California Grrls" from their forthcoming album, along with b-side "Roadrunner Roadrunner" (not included in the record). The single – a catchy noise pop song about those (nasty) girls Foxygen obviously chose over our awesome Brooklyn ladiez! – will be out April 2nd through Old Flame Records, while the band will be finalizing their upcoming album "Savior" expected to drop sometime in the summer. We are sure listening to the single through an old cassette player will somehow make your experience sublime, but if all you care about is the music, well, you can stream it right here under this blurb. For some (nostalgia and hiss free) live fun, you can catch the band at Death by Audio on May 16.

NYC rockers The VeeVees debut video + play Arlene’s on March 27
Hair, girls, money, (partial) nudity, and parties. That’s rock n’ roll, and that’s The VeeVees and their debut video for single “Dog Day Revel.” Garret Cillo (guitar/vocals) and Andrea Belifiore (drums) create a volatile blues-rock sound embodying the attitude and power of many. “Dog Day Revel” offers a sample of what The VeeVees are all about, no-apologies, 70’s-inspired, riff-ridden rock ‘n roll. The track opens with a recurring guitar lick that drives the song forward and is amplified by crashing cymbals, explosive snare hits, and howling vocals. The accompanying music video is just as captivating, imagining dreamlike scenes of rock stardom, featuring the band shirtless with adoring women surrounding the band and money swirling through the air in a chic-looking club. The VeeVees take the stage at Arlene’s Grocery this Wednesday, March 27 at 10pm. – Meijin Bruttomesso
