Cough Cool, a.k.a. Dan Svizeny, shared another track yesterday from his upcoming album 29 called "Intro to Regret." So far, the samplings from the new record have a warm, heartfelt quality to them beneath all the signature static and fuzz, which might be surprising to some if you happen to follow his often times sardonic tweets. 29 is currently scheduled for release in May via Bathetic Records.
Ash Reiter Plays Disco Volante – March 6th Plus Extensive Tour with Li Xi
Local Bay Area lady, Ash Reiter and her band are taking their decidedly Californian, dreamy pop music on tour. The track I’ve Got Something I Can Laugh About, from their late 2012 album Hola, exemplifies the snappy melodies and retro 60s tones that characterize the group. The stylized instrumentals combined with Reiter’s wholesome vocals make for upbeat, good clean fun. She does, however, sneak in the occasional sly remark to spice things up. Ash Reiter plays Disco Volante in Oakland this Wednesday, March 6th, along with David Glasebrook of Santa Cruz Americana outfit Deep Ellum and Portland’s Wild Ones. After their local show Ash Reiter and her band will play an extensive tour with their label mates, Li Xi and Couches. 20 Sided Records is sending these talented San Francisco bands all over the US. Make sure you catch them when they arrive at a city near you. -Andy Lambert

Il Abanico becomes Salt Cathedral + plays Glasslands on 03.23
Brooklyn based band Salt Cathedral (formerly known as Il Abanico) recently released a new single “Take Me to the Sea,” from their upcoming self-titled EP. Showcasing their dreamy and melodic sound, the tune features easygoing, uncomplicated lyrics, allowing a (much needed) temporary detachment from reality. Salt Cathedral recently played a show at Mercury Lounge with Port St. Willow on February 22 and you’ll be able to see them live at Glasslands March on 23rd with established electro-pop neighbors Hundred Waters. – Kristyn Potter
We added this song to The Deli’s playlist of Best NYC songs by emerging NYC artists – check it out!

Music News: Ruby Amanfu, Milktooth, Cherub, and k.s. Rhoads
It’s only Tuesday and this week is already full of new stuff to check out. There’s a lot to hear, so we’ve condensed it all into a quick and clickable blog post for easy consumption:
Ruby Amanfu has teamed up with Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard to create a painfully beautiful cover of Memphis Minnie’s "When My Man Comes Home." Recorded to add to the Third Man Records Blue Series arsenal, this song as well as a cover of "I Wonder," originally by Rodriguez, will be available on vinyl March 12th. In the meantime, the song is available to stream (on repeat) over on the Entertainment Weekly website.
For some reason, electro-pop duo Cherub are giving their fantastic 100 Bottles EP away for free. Featuring six tracks of experimental neo-soul, this EP does not miss a beat. Catch the debut and stream over on This Song Is Sick or buy the EP on iTunes.
Currently getting the new album release treatment is known solo artist and renown local collaborator, k.s. Rhoads. Available today, The Wilderness will celebrate its release alongside a myriad of local talent on March 8th at 3rd & Lindsley. Until then, stream the album on Spotify or on Spinner.
Lastly, Milktooth have released the fifth episode of their ongoing "Stay At Home America" covers series. This time, the band tackles "Eyes That Say I Love You," from Beck’s Song Reader. The song and video feature tons of local talent, such as Alanna Quinn-Broadus of Alanna Royale, Daniel Ellsworth of Daniel Ellsworth & the Great Lakes, Lindsay Johns of NUDITY, Regan Freeman, and Levi Weaver. Catch it here:
Robin Bacior Plays The Piano Fort 3.8
Portland based singer songwriter Robin Bacior has been touring for most of February promoting her new album, I Just Left You, Still in Love, and on March 8th The Piano Fort will be welcoming her back to the Bridge City with open arms. Be it playing the piano, strumming a guitar or singing her poetic lyrics, it is clear Bacior knows what she is doing. She has a way with light feminine vocals and deeply rooted instrumentation that creates an ever-changing landscape of keys, strings and harmonies. That contrast in vocal and instrumental texture echoes the theme of her latest album. The 5 track release, recorded in a single day, explores ideas of letting go and moving on in the midst of feeling tangled and frozen. As the album shifts from quick footed songs like “Box-A-Bed” to weighty and surprising “Shapes and Seasons” her emotional exploration pulls the listener in and does not let go until Prelude. Bacior will be sharing the night with Portland wonder Ryan Francesconi and the ever dreamy Sparrow Song Research. These three different and talented acts will take turns on a stage made entirely of pianos, and we can all agree that is a mighty fine way to spend a Friday night. – Joy Pearson
*repeat repeat Make Their Debut With “12345678”
Kristyn and Jared Corder are on the fast track to becoming one of Nashville’s busiest and most adorable couples. Though the East Nashville Underground festival wheels are always in motion, the Corders have found time between seasons to make music of their own. Debuting as *repeat repeat, Kristyn, Jared, and drummer Andy Herrin have joined forces with Gregory Lattimer of Now Records and released their first single, "12345678." Click the arrow below to ignore Nashville’s attempt at a torrential downpour and catch some perfectly-timed sonic sunshine and surf-rock throwback vibes.
Mainland releases video + plays The Studio on 03.23
I’m a total sucker for garage pop like Mainland. Their newest single featuring “Wasted” and “The Stroll” released this past November has received a lot of praise, (including some words from us here at The Deli) and the band just keeps giving us more to write about, releasing a video (streaming below) to accompany “The Stroll” in late February. The video is simple yet fun and engaging, comprised of a bunch of clips of them playing in the street, at a show, and just goofing around, like a very well done, stylized home movie. To experience this without filters, don’t miss their next show is March 23rd at Webster Hall’s Studio in New York City. – Lucille Sherman
Stream: Yolk, “Lighthouse”
Hailing from Redondo Beach, the avant-garde alt-rock trio, Yolk, is the brain-child of siblings Asia and Matt Graves, along with Travis Brown. While they may be self-proclaimed “weirdos” making “alien pop,” their most recent single, “Lighthouse” has some serious radio-friendly production and melodies that will be stuck in your head for days. From the moment the melancholic Erhu weaves it’s other-worldly moans into the verse it becomes clear there is depth to the creative power lying within this trio. What truly dominates this track, though, is Asia’s striking vocal prowess. Her voice is grounded and strong in the verses, but soars with tender vulnerability in the chorus. Having just the right amount of Indie pop flair, textural sound design, and modern rock punch, “Lighthouse” has put Yolk on the Band to Watch List.- Jacqueline Caruso
Interview with Shark Week: DC Deli’s Best Emerging Band of 2012
You may remember the bombardment of year end lists and polls that dominated the social media stratosphere a couple months ago. Of course we at the DC Deli were a part of the chaos, and in that time, more than several local scene experts (mostly venue bookers and journalists) came to us with similar praise for the band that would become our Best Emerging Band of 2012. And that band is the surf garage rockers Shark Week. We wanted to find out more about the quartet comprised of Ryan, Danielle, Dan and Al. We got a hold of singer/guitarist Ryan Hunter Mitchell who tells us about fooseball tournament prizes, recording in Puerto Rico, and performing at Sweetlife Festival this year! Click here for the interview…
Shark Week will be headed off to SxSW in the coming days, so catch them at their send off show this Friday March 8th at the Rock and Roll Hotel. They will be shooting a live video and premiering a new single! Joining them are DC’s dance rock outfit Dance For the Dying, Balitmore’s psyche rockers The Flying Eyes, and new DC punk band Joy Buttons. Doors are at 8 PM and it’s only $10. –Dawn
Check out this awesome video for their song "Baby Maybe" released just this week.
