Hikes CD Release Party 03.22
There’s some music out that listens like poetry, and I’m not just talking about the lyrics. Hikes latest single “Trophy Lives” first two minutes is an instrumental of calculated guitars with no typical song structure, building and fading on its own. This isn’t a track you can listen to just once, and I’m sure the album will be the same. They’re dropping their new album tomorrow (which “Trophy Lives” is on). You can celebrate with them tomorrow night at their release party at Wardenclyffe. – Lucy Sherman
New Video: “Never Run Away” – Kurt Vile

The actual ad aired on the CW in Philly, and was directed by Don Argott. Vile will be back in town with the Violators on Saturday, May 18 at Union Transfer.
Update: You can now download "Never Run Away" for free via Spin.com.
La Kaza and Divino Nino @ Empty Bottle
Two bands with a history and shared members are performing this Sunday, March 24th, at Empty Bottle.
Divino Nino is Camilo Medina (vox/guitar/percussion), Javier Forero (vox/bass), and Guillermo Rodriguez (vox/guitars). Camilo and Guillermo were formerly in a band called Continental Breakfast. They just released their debut album Pool Jealousy.
La Kaza is a project consisting of members of Ornery Little Darlings and Divino Nino, and their debut effort comes out this April. Somewhat fitting for Chicago these days, the band’s name is a play on the local street gang La Raza, and they claim that they have built a home base in the same abandoned auto garage that previously was the main cocaine stock house for the gang.
Below is the first single, "Carmelita y Rosalita", from La Kaza
NPR Debut’s Paperhaus’ 1st Single
DC’s psych rockers Paperhaus have announced that their 2nd EP Lo Hi Lo will be coming out May 28. In the meantime, NPR has shared their first single off it on the show All Songs Considered. The track "Helicopters" (below) is a glimmering example of the sweet tinge of lo-fi shoegaze tones layered with indie rock elements that reminds of a clash between Longwave and the Strokes. Love it. –Dawn
Catch them in Richmond at Bauhaus on 3/22 and Charlotesville at Random Row Books on 3/23.
Sara Jackson-Holman Performs at Mississippi Studios 3.23
A well-polished and soulful blend of rock and R&B is hard to come by. Lucky for Portland, the young and talented Sara Jackson-Holman will be performing at Mississippi Studios this Saturday. Her song “Into the Blue” from her initial album was made famous by debuting on television shows “The Ringer” and “Chelsea Settles.” Since, she has released her sophomore album, Cardiology, a collection of thirteen piano driven songs that have an orchestral quality to them before they are overshadowed by Sara’s powerful and emotion-filled voice. The sound reflects the recent English soul revival with the likes of Lily Allen combined with the contemporary drawn out productions of Lana Del Ray. She has gained fame for all the right reasons and the timeless quality to her music does not predict there will be any slowdown to her success. Above all else she is a performer that can carry an audience from the first note to the last. – Colin Hudson
Mike and the Moonpies Austin Shows 03.21 and 03.22
If you aren’t completely worn out from last week, be sure to check out Mike and the Moonpies before they leave the city. They’ll be performing at White Hourse tonight and at The Rattle Inn tomorrow before heading out of town for a hot second, stopping back for a quick show at Stubb’s Jr. on the 03.29, and then heading out again. These fellas, with their charming take on classic county, made it on our top 15 Austin bands in 2012. – Lucy Sherman
Graveyard Lovers release video for Ripe to Misbehave
What happens when you bring the blues of the deep south to the urban jungles of Manhattan? Passport issues? For Graveyard Lovers, there’s an instant connection between Zach Reynolds’ roots from Louisiana, and the city backdrop to drummer Tricia Purvis’ rock roots. Think Deertick’s angst with the rock posturing of arena bands like My Chemical Romance, and you’ve come close to the sound of their debut EP ‘Manifesto."
The video to "Ripe to Misbehave" is ripe with the tortured thoughts of anyone who’s grown to hate Brooks Brothers. Watch it here, stream the song below. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
The Henry Millers release new video for “Hop” + plays The Studio on 04.01
A true indie pop overload, The Henry Millers incorporate all the signature sounds of the genre into one band: heavy melodic guitars, playful synths, and harmonizing male and female vocals find their place in the band’s upbeat music. Check out their new video for the song "Hop" below, and see them live at Websters Hall’s Studio on April 1st. – Lucy Sherman

Check out the second half of our Choice/Cuts session with Grandchildren! We are happy to give you the first taste of the group’s next single from their upcoming album Golden Age called "End Times." NYC band on the rise: Teen Girl Scientist Monthly plays Cameo tonight (03.21)
Made up mostly of NYU grads, Teen Girl Scientist Monthly compensate deficiencies in the band name department (we haven’t managed to say it without stumbling on our tongue yet – but we are foreign) with their contagiously upbeat power pop and sassy front woman Morgan Lynch’s presence. The band is playing Cameo tonight, it should be fun.
