If you told Sun Ra he had to write a record with the Dirty Projectors, you might get something out of it that sounds similar to Brooklyn’s Throw Vision. The quartet does indeed blast into outer space, with crazy harmonies and stop-start rhythms intact, exploring new spaces in sound through tracks like ‘Hold Your Tongue’ and ‘Water Basket’ off the group’s surprisingly fun debut. Saying this band takes leaps and bounds with their fugal harmonies would be an understatement, but they’re also just as sure to include you in all the sonic explorations. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
The Lone Bellow opens for Brandi Carlile after SXSW (March 22-23)
If it seems like it was only last year when The Lone Bellow was still playing local venues and gathering fans one by one, it’s because it was. Nowadays, you’re more likely to catch the group on their upcoming national tour, or playing ‘You Never Need Nobody’ recently on Conan. The folk trio’s been everywhere these days, but lucky for you… they still have plenty of upcoming dates in NY to choose from. After what will surely be an exciting SXSW the band will be back in town with two nights at the Beacon Theatre opening for Brandi Carlile on March 22-23. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
Austin Artists on the rise: The Couch
Voted runner-up in our Austin Best of 2012 Poll for Emerging Artists, The Couch seamlessly blends rootsy influences with electric indie-rock guitars, creating energetic folk ‘n’ roll with quiet/loud/quiet moments reminiscent of the glorious alt bands of the 90s (think Pixies and Nirvana). Dual female/male vocals add extra interest (and harmonic layers) to this prolific band’s music catalogue.

The Lonely Biscuits Rally the Nashville Community for A Shot At SXSW
Saturday night, the Lonely Biscuits hit the stage with Black Sea Royalty and our band of the year, Daniel Ellsworth & the Great Lakes. The four-piece brought their self-described "funk/hip-hop/soul/pop" to the Exit/In before releasing their music video for "Make Ya Music," which was unveiled as a gift to the band’s fans for sharing the picture posted above 300+ times on Facebook.
At only 19 years old and as current Belmont students, the band is rallying the local music community to get behind them and vote for them as the mtvU College Artist Woodie winners. The winner of the poll gets the chance to travel to Austin and open the Woodies Festival at SXSW. No other artist in the poll is from Nashville, so feel free to rep your city freely. (You can vote as many times as you like.)

Sama Dams Play Backspace 3.1
If you are lucky enough to be at Backspace on March 1st, do yourself a favor: Show up early, grab a beer and get a spot at the front of the crowd because you are going to want to absorb this show in its entirety. Portland natives, Sama Dams, are simply electric on stage. Their avant-rock sound is deeply textured with digital goodness that is rivaled by front man, Sam Adams, haunting and controlled melodies. If you haven’t had the pleasure of hearing them live this is going to be a good night for you. Sama Dams will be sharing the stage with the upbeat and irreverent Walter Mitty and His Makeshift Orchestra, the pop-tackular hard rocking Tiananmen Bear, and the enchanting Amenta Abioto who weaves African folk music and loops so harmoniously she will get your ears high. Backspace will be alive with some of the best sounds Portland has to offer and all for a $5 cover at the door. – Joy Pearson
Sama Dams have recently launched a kickstarter campaign in order to fund their upcoming full length album. Click here to learn how you can help.
New Video: “Wright” (Out of Town Films Session) – Avery Rosewater
Here’s a new video from the good dudes at Out of Town Films of ex-Arches member Julien Rossow-Greenberg’s latest project Avery Rosewater. We were really impressed with the performance and sound of their unreleased song "Wright," which was recorded in the kitchen of the band’s South Philly practice space.

Slutever Know How to Throw a Tantrum at Kung Fu Necktie Feb. 26
Get out your Nirvana t-shirt and torn fishnet stockings, Slutever is ready to invade your personal space. Their unapologetic form of garage rock will have you pleasantly intrigued, but leave you feeling somewhat violated. The fuzzy, reverb-driven punch delivered by the candy-lovin’ duo may prove to be endearing, but don’t mistake it for being sweet or cute. The self-proclaimed “mallrats” have grown up a lot since 2010’s Sorry I’m Not Sorry, but that doesn’t mean they suddenly forgot how to throw a tantrum on stage. Their show tonight at Kung Fu Necktie opening for Savannah, Georgia’s Cusses will mark the first of a string of dates that ultimately culminates with a stop at this year’s SXSW. Recently, the band has been working with producer Kyle “Slick” Johnson of Fancy Time Studio, and their new 7’’ is due out sometime this month. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N.
