Black Landlord Halloween Extravaganza at KFN Oct. 28

Posted on:
When Black Landlord enters KFN tonight, be prepared for a storm of boogie-down funk (which is fitting with the current weather predictions). Max Stoyanoff-Williams commands the mic unleashing authoritative rhymes as the band takes flight with the combination of bass, keys, guitar and horns thundering away creating a spellbindingly heavy groove that propels listeners to their feet. The beat of the percussion provide the consistent push that serves as the catalyst for the rest of the band while the horns blast away at opportune times – smooth phrasing adding a depth and brightness which sends the overall sound sky bound. For those who don’t want the Halloween weekend to end and who aren’t afraid of some rain, the Black Landlord Halloween Extravaganza is your go-to spot this evening. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7:30, $10, 21+ – Michael Colavita

Jon DeRosa releases first single off ‘A Wolf In Preachers’ Clothes’

Posted on:

"I’m a bartender in Brooklyn, and spend most of my life on *that* side of the bar" says Jon DeRosa. Having myself spent a couple of years holding the fort in an East London boozer, obviously, I was intrigued. Man, the things you see from ‘that’ side… ‘Birds of Brooklyn‘, starting off as a downbeat gravelly barytone ballad telling romanticised tales of some regular faces, picks itself up slightly with its pace, as the trumpet joins in and silences get filled and the listener’s caught up in a warmly orchestrated parade a la Beirut, quite far from the original Cat Stevens-ey melancholy. DeRosa, whom we find for the B-side covering 1962 Nick Charles track ‘Sunday Jealous‘ – released this single a week back as the first off his debut solo album, ‘A Wolf In Preacher’s Clothes‘, which on November 5th will be available thoughout Europe thanks to a recent deal with Rocket Girl; following a performance at this year’s CMJ Festival, we’re expecting to find new dates announced soon – stay tuned.

Shuteye “Hush Hush”

Posted on:

Electro pop duo, Shuteye, is gearing up for the release of their debut album, “Hush Hush”, set to drop November 27. The duo has released several tracks for the album through 2012 including their single "Heart and Stone" back in February. One of my favorite tracks from the new album is "Sun Night Sky" which they released via the video below last month.

Shuteye are performing a Halloween set, Saturday Oct. 27th at Revengers Halloween Party.
