Oakland Dream Popsters Trails and Ways recently released a new single "Border Crosser" to head off their upcoming full-length album Trilingual. "Nobody should be criminalized for crossing borders for the sake of those they love," states the band who is giving away the single in hope that listeners will support the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.
Give it a listen, download for free, and check out their cause here.
We covered People Get Ready so much in the last few months that we have really run out of words to describe how good they are – see past coverage here. Don’t mis their CD release party at Glasslands on October 27. Album out on legendary NYC label Brassland – run by members of The National.
"I’m a bartender in Brooklyn, and spend most of my life on *that* side of the bar" says Jon DeRosa. Having myself spent a couple of years holding the fort in an East London boozer, obviously, I was intrigued. Man, the things you see from ‘that’ side… ‘Birds of Brooklyn‘, starting off as a downbeat gravelly barytone ballad telling romanticised tales of some regular faces, picks itself up slightly with its pace, as the trumpet joins in and silences get filled and the listener’s caught up in a warmly orchestrated parade a la Beirut, quite far from the original Cat Stevens-ey melancholy. DeRosa, whom we find for the B-side covering 1962 Nick Charles track ‘Sunday Jealous‘ – released this single a week back as the first off his debut solo album, ‘A Wolf In Preacher’s Clothes‘, which on November 5th will be available thoughout Europe thanks to a recent deal with Rocket Girl; following a performance at this year’s CMJ Festival, we’re expecting to find new dates announced soon – stay tuned.
DC’s post-punk Dot Dash debuted a new music video this week for the track "The Past is Another Country" off their second album Winter Garden Light, released September 2012. All the tracks are super catchy and have that classic DC post-punk sound that could easily dominate college radio waves on any given night. Just check it out and you’ll know…(Photo by Roy Anderson)
Roll Call Records just released (3 hours ago) released a new remix of "Ghosts" from the upcoming debut from On An On. The remix by local producer Kid Color (aka Kyle Woods) and is the "Kid Color’s Morning Run Dub Mix". Before you hit the pavement for your morning run tomorrow download this great track.
As we have mentioned before, On An On’s debut album "Give In" will be released by Roll Call Records on Jan. 29th.
The local label Forge Again Records announced last week that they will be releasing the new double LP, Silk Prison, from Tight Phantomz. The album will be released on November 20th, but Part 1 can be streamed below now, and Part 2 can be found here.
The video below is for one of the albums standout tracks, "Waiting For" and was directed by Brendan Leonard.
Tight Phantomz will be celebrating the release of Silk Prison on Nov. 21st at Empty Bottle with Bloodiest and E+.
Electro pop duo, Shuteye, is gearing up for the release of their debut album, “Hush Hush”, set to drop November 27. The duo has released several tracks for the album through 2012 including their single "Heart and Stone" back in February. One of my favorite tracks from the new album is "Sun Night Sky" which they released via the video below last month.
Shuteye are performing a Halloween set, Saturday Oct. 27th at Revengers Halloween Party.
