Local blogger (Count Me Out) and musician Brendan Losch is releasing his third full-length album, Low, on April 10th. The album will feature a backing band consisting of John Morton and Aaron Sandberg (Bullets in Madison) and guest vocals from Gia Margaret (Little Light).
From the sound of the first single, "Son of a Gun", the addition of the band has given Losch a fuller sound to support his always powerful vocals.
Lean, mean, hard-drinking machines… Manhattan’s The Split is simply exactly what you want to hear spill over from the garage and to the beer hall. Unlike the cynical boredom characterizing most of the pub crawl circuit, Tim Gray and Charlie Duerr approach most of their material with an unexpected optimism and promise, from ‘Here Before We’re Gone’ to ‘Nobody But You,’ they give an unexpected set of reassurances through their dirty guitar chops I haven’t heard in awhile. The Split just might be a band worth believing in.
If you tend to dislike the crowded, sweaty mess at a sold out Diplo show, then you can now get fucked up and listen to him deejay in the comfort of your own home (alone or with a bunch of friends) because the globetrotting, tweeting producer/DJ will now have his own weekly program for BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra called “Diplo & Friends.” Its inaugural broadcast will be this Saturday, April 7 from 1 – 3am GMT (8 – 10pm EST). What should you expect? There will be “exclusive mixes from Diplo, the Mad Decent stable of artists, and a selection of big name pals and cutting edge new artists.” The first episode will feature Canadian producer Lunice and Mad Decent creative director Paul Devro. Other guests for April episodes will include Dillon Francis, Flosstradamous, Brodinski and more.
The University of Washington will be celebrating its campus radio station’s birthday starting next Tueday, with three days of live music at the school’s Ethnic Cultural Theater. The Rainy Dawg Birthday Festival was conceived as a way to bring big names into an intimate venue, for an experience that students and local music fans alike won’t soon forget. With headliners like Oneohtrix Point Never, the Thermals and Brother Ali topping the festival’s bill, some other local favourites rounding out the lineup, the mid-week event will provide a unique chance to catch some of the region’s hottest acts, up close and personal. Check out the full lineup here.

If you’ve been anxiously waiting for a studio follow-up to TJ Kong and The Atomic Bomb’s Idiots, well, unfortunately, you are going to have to wait a little longer for their new LP. However, Dan Bruskewicz and crew did just release a new live performance album yesterday “to wet your whistle.” The recordings are from 2011’s Art/Gage Festival. You can listen to and purchase the EP with a bunch of new songs below.
The husband and wife duo of Paul and Krystal Jean Masson known as The Great American Canyon Band has released the b-side of their new 7" single "Tumbleweed". The track is called "Burn" and can be grabbed below. The duo will be recording a session with Daytrotter on April 11th.
Check out the new jam from Work Drugs called “Lisbon Teeth,” which will appear on their upcoming album currently scheduled for release this summer. The track “was written about one crazy summer in Europe… Drunken nights in Paris back alleys, afternoons on the beautiful beaches of Portugal, early evening ciders on the banks of the Thames. The girls names we couldn’t pronounce… and the faces we couldn’t forget.” (Believe it or not?) You can download it for free below. Enjoy!
The Germany based indie label, Kiez Beats released the new remix album from Keith Masters, Electromajic. The project features contributions from Lady Nogrady, Natalie Oliveri and Vince P and dynamite production from Minnox, Ren Riz, Digikid84, Futurecop!, Odd Modern, GunSlungLow, Daze and Flashworx.
For years I’ve felt Keith does not get the attention that he deserves. He has been churning out some of the best electronic and hip hop beats in the city for years. This album is one of his more inventive projects and is a solid listen.
It is a hard moment to relive, but Serengeti makes a case for not blaming Bartman for the Cubs failure in the NL Playoffs. "Don’t Blame Steve" comes from his new ep Kenny Dennis and was produced by Jel & Odd Nosdam.
Who knows, maybe if we forgive Bartman we will have another shot at the World Series?
There’s something endearing about fuzzy, lo-fi recordings. They just sound so much more genuine than overly produced tunes (and they probably are). I respect that. The LA-based duo, Spaceships, produces a hazy, true form of garage rock that gleams with reverb and static. Vocalist Jessie Waite guides the tracks with her delightfully wailing voice, as screeching electric guitar and pounding percussion promote a sense of punk-like urgency. With a self-titled EP (released in January) under its belt, Spaceships is playing some shows in California in April and is currently in the process of mastering a 7".
