If it’s true that China is about to conquer the world, we can only hope they’ll do it with The Notorious MSG‘s sense of humor. Rising up from the hard streets of Chinatown as a hip hop project in 2002, the trio is on a mission to challenge the Western cultural dominance from the inside, using its own (outdated) weapons – including leather jackets, permed hair and macho antics (all stuff that is scheduled to come back in fashion in the next decade of course…) The band’s music, with the recently released debut album "Heavy Ghetto", has expanded towards more aggressive and bizarre territories. Check out this brand new video of their single "Red Tonight", a song betraying influences of early Devo and late Beastie Boys.

Strand of Oaks Opening for Crooked Fingers at JB’s Nov. 2
Pretty fresh from his first tattoo – Timothy Showalter a.k.a. Strand of Oaks has been getting into adventures on tour with his growing band. The imaginative, long-haired songwriter with the sweet, sweet voice will be making a pit stop at Johnny Brenda’s tonight, but you should take advantage of the appearance because he won’t be in town for long. Notable Music Company signs Jenny O.
Los Angeles-based independent publishing company Notable Music recently added singer/songwriter Jenny O. to their roster of multitalented musicians. Before signing with Notable Music, Jenny bounced around New York, playing with a few bands and even had a stint with the NY All-State Orchestra. She came to Los Angeles and immersed herself in the music scene, released her debut EP Home and began to grow a fan base after a series of awe-inspiring performances (SXSW) and getting props from influential music lovers (National Public Radio’s Ann Powers). Jenny O.’s sound is a mix of psychedelic rock and folk-pop with a dash of gospel, which had a lot to do with her scientist/wedding singer father introducing her to Beach Boys and Harry Nilsson at a young age. After wrapping up a West Coast tour with Ben Harper, she will return to the studio to complete her first full-length album, due in early 2012. – Nicole Dawley

Peep This: Thee Oh Sees’ ‘The Dream’
Thee Oh Sees are due to put out its double-EP-turned-LP Carrion Crawler/The Dream in just two weeks on November 15th! A month back, they let us peep the track "Carrion Crawler" and today we get the other title track, "The Dream," available over at Pitchfork. Shrieks, punk guitar solos and heavy bass oscillations are the framework for this latest cut, which stands as an almost chronological development from the 70s retro guitar progressions on "Carrion Crawler."
The band tells the Deli these two songs, as well as the rest of the album, were "cut live to tape in less than a week at Chris Woodhouse’s Sacramento studio in June." Thee Oh Sees have been holding down the Bay area indie scene since 1997.
